Located within the walled city, next to so many great restaurants, and within walking to a lot of attractions nearby. The staff was over the top, and yes, Maria in the dining room was one of a kind! The rooms are very modern, a bit too modern for my liking: the shower has no door, and the toilet was as soon as you walked in. Beds were very comfortable, a/c and wifi worked well, lots of toiletries to help you out. Safe box, minifridge in room. The pool is so pretty and that whole area upstairs is so welcoming. The smell as soon as you walk into the hallways is so fresh.... breakfast is good, not wow, but good, limited fruit selection, cereals, breads, I think there were waffles, but bring a hotel in Cartagena, I was expecting more local items like arepas, a better fruit selection, etc... All in all, great choice!

Hotel's Favorite
We stayed 5 nights at the end of February 2023 in suite 407 of the Hilton Nacar hotel in Cartagena, Colombia. Suite 407 is the penthouse suite with a private pool on the roof. The hotel is in 2 separate buildings. The main building ( where we checked in ) is just around the corner from the building where all the suites are located. The hotel is situated in an old colonial style residence but has been completely renovated with all the modern conveniences. There is no elevator, but all the suites are on the second floor. However, due to the fact that the local architecture favors rooms with extremely high ceilings to combat the heat, climbing one flight of stairs takes you up almost 25 feet - more than double of an average North American home’s ceilings. The renovations have been done with great care. Modern elements ( plumbing, lighting, air conditioning ) have been seamlessly integrated into the rustic charm of the original architecture. The decoration of the rooms and common areas favors light colors and natural materials giving one a sense of harmony between past and present. The vibe is really Caribbean chic. Our room was enormous, almost 120 square meters but with the ceiling rising to 25 feet, the sensation was really WOW ! Everything was white and natural tones with tons of light coming in the tall windows and the skylight over the washroom area. The entire suite is open plan, with only the toilet being separate from the rest of the space. This big suite has everything that defines luxury: a big king sized bed, big shower, enclosed toilet, double sinks, large soaking tub, a large sofa and lots of room. On the practical side, there is also a large mirror, a safe, a remote control blackout shade, a Nespresso espresso machine ( with Colombia coffee pods ) and a mini bar fridge stocked with a variety of refreshments to purchase. One note about this fridge: it not only had enough extra room for 2 large bottles of water and/or wine, but unlike the majority of these minibar fridges one tends to find in hotel rooms all over the world, this one actually got your drinks really cold. The bed was quite soft, but sleepable and there was a choice of pillows. The suite had 2 air conditioning units, so at times it was quite chilly in the room, however you can control them yourself with remotes. There is an enormous staircase in the center of the suite that takes you up to your own private rooftop terrace. This is where the magic happens. As you step out onto the terrace you have a shaded sitting area to your left. To your right is a short passageway that leads you up to the pièce de resistance of the suite: the private 20 foot long pool with 2 chaise lounge and sun, sun, sun! The pool is tiled in small blue squares and is about 4 feet deep - perfect for cooling off after a long hot day of touristing ! The sun shines on the pool almost all day long, so it gets wonderfully warm by the end of the day. This suite is not only perfect on the inside, but it is also in the ideal location for almost instant access to great restaurants, great bars and all the tourist attractions of the old city. It is very very quiet inside the room and on the rooftop. The hotel website describes the suite having a semi-private terrace, which at the time of booking this hotel, made us think that part of the rooftop was a public passageway that led to our private pool area. Once we were on the rooftop, we realized that “semi-private” refers to the fact that one can see a few other rooftop terraces: those of the hotel as well as a few local residents. Our rooftop terrace was definitely private to us and we found that in reality we were all alone all of the time. It was just us and the birds ! There are only 3 negative things to mention. The first would be that the shaded seated area of the rooftop terrace needs a good cleaning and the second one would be the hit and miss telephone service. I called for service three times and each time it was a different story. The first time, it took several minutes for the phone to be answered, the second time, I got through right away but the third time I got no answer, despite calling the front desk, room service, housekeeping and “0”. The third negative point is that there does not seem to be room service offered. There’s a button on the phone for room service, but there’s no room service menu. ( But no one answers when you press the room service button, so even if there was a menu, what good would it be ) However all these slight negative points can be easily corrected by the management. We hope they do, as we plan to be back really soon to suite 407 of the Hilton Nacar hotel in sunny, friendly Cartagena, Colombia.

My husband and I stayed here to celebrate my birthday. We are Hilton Diamond members so we wanted to choose a hotel within the Hilton network for the perks and points. Upon arrival, we were greeted with smiling faces and individuals eager to assist. When we got to the desk, the young lady acknowledged that we were there to celebrate my birthday and she went on to say that we had been given a complimentary room upgrade. However, we discovered upon entering the room that we had not been given an upgrade. Instead they simply changed us from the “2 double beds superior” to the 1 king bed superior. I was able to verify this by comparing my confirmation email for my hotel booking to the updated room type in the Hilton app in addition to looking at the online photos of each room. However, this was not a deal breaker but a disappointment considering a true upgrade would have been the junior suite. I will give them credit for the complimentary fruit arrangement that awaited us in the room along with a personalized welcome letter. Overall, the room served its purpose. We spent more time outside of the room exploring Cartagena. The beds were unbelievable comfortable. The rainfall shower was absolutely amazing. The water temperature was perfect! The breakfast was AMAZING! The restaurant on the lower level of the hotel literally has some of the best food that I’ve ever tasted. If you eat there, keep in mind that they already add the tip to your bill (which is fine but just giving a heads up). I want to point out that both the hotel and restaurant gave me a nice treat for my birthday. In my room, I found a beautiful Happy Birthday note left in the room with cake for me. At the restaurant, I was given a complimentary birthday dessert. I forgot to mention that the room had a stocked mini fridge and an assortment of snacks that you could add to your room. There is also a price list in the room for you. The only disappointing thing that we experienced occurred at the rooftop bar/restaurant on the hotel’s 4th floor. We were overcharged for our food and I asked for regular water and the waitress brought me a bottle of water that cost 25000 pesos instead of what I asked for which was only 10000 pesos. However, the food was a different story. We were just flat out overcharged. The waitress had us to scan the QR code with our phones to access the menu. The menu listed the prices for every item on there. My husband asked the waitress about it after reviewing the bill and her response was the prices changed. That is classic bait and switch. I don’t want to discourage anyone from patronizing the Magnolia rooftop bar/restaurant BUT please understand you will be charged a different price and they will not honor the price printed on the menu. Overall, I loved the hotel and the location in the walled city. It was the only area that we were safe from the aggressive street vendors trying to constantly and persistently sell you merchandise. Also, use Uber instead of the taxis because the cost converts out to $2 to $4 USD. You save a bunch of money. Again, I can’t stress enough how perfectly located this hotel is.

Great location inside the Walled City of Cartagena. You can literally walk to everything! The La Serrazuela mall w/ delicious and wonderful food court is just minutes away! The staff was friendly and welcoming especially the Peruvian restaurant for breakfast buffett- nice choice of juices, bread, coffee, and Colombian food. There is a rooftop pool and bar called LA Magnolia that makes delicious food and drinks. I spent some time there relaxing and smoking cigars. The rooms are spacious and clean. The only problem I had with this hotel was when you opened the windows. The exterior walls of the hotel definitely needs painting as you can see the mold? But a great hotel to stay in when in Cartagena.

The Nacar Hilton is the perfect place to stay in Cartagena - centrally located in the historic old city, but on a quiet stretch of street that provides easy access to tourist sites while also providing a soothing, quiet environment for travelers. The rooms are decorated in a clean, modern style with lovely local design touches, including pale blue room doors, Colombian textile designs, and tasteful arrangements of pothos plants. The lobby has lovely colonial-style mirrors across a wall, hanging plants and a quirky, brightly painted three wheel car in the atrium (which it definitely works as a design element!). Beds are extremely comfortable, linens are crisp and showers are divine. I highly recommend the various spacious junior Garden Suires. All staff are delightful, especially Oscar and Nellys at the front desk, and Luis and Maria in the restaurant . The cleaning staff is charming and has to be encouraged to take the tips left out (I literally had to hand over the pesos so clearly left our for one staff member after she had cleaned our room, moved in to the next, and had not taken the money I had left out for her!) I highly recommend the Nacar Hilton for a soothing stay in the lively, vibrant, colorful and somewhat chaotic city of Cartagena!!! It is wonderful!

This place is amazing and the service top notch. From Oscar greeting me at check in and helping me with my pesos situation to Gabriela at check out getting the cab for me at the time I needed it and a wonderful check out experience this place is a winner. The rooftop bar and pool was one to make me come back. You must have the bartenders drink creation with a frozen juice ice ball in in to top it off. I will be back. Oh did I forget to mention the Jr. Suite upgrade and bottle of wine waiting in my room as a diamond 💎 member.
