We stayed here twice - once in a room and again in the apartment … which is massive. The apartment is basically a whole house and you do indeed feel like you’ve gone back in time with the furnishings and decor. The staff are excellent and do everything to make your stay very comfortable. There was also a daily laundry service where you leave what you like and a tip for the maid - this was valuable as we’re away for many weeks on this trip. The location is perfect too which is handy as the hotel doesn’t have a bar. Breakfast was cooked to order and delicious - thoroughly recommended overall

The most incredible hotel right in the middle of Cartagena! The hotel recently opened and the modern and gorgeous refurbishment still keeping with the old traditional architecture of the house was mind blowing! The rooftop pool and bar with lots of seating area hardly wanted us to leave the hotel! The staff were all very kind, friendly and helpful! The rooms are spacious and even though were were on the ground floor heard nothing from the lively loud streets of cartagena. The hotel really feels like home and with only 15 rooms (I think) feels very homely while be very spacious and airy and bright at the same time! The breakfast here was excellent and every day they had a delicious juice to have which was a really nice touch!

While we were there they were yet to open the cafe and yoga studio, but we will make sure to come back to try that out soon!

Highly recommend for a stay in cartagena with amazing design, food, location and the dreamiest rooftop in the whole city!

It's hard to write a review for this hotel because you need to see and experience it for yourself. The old town is the place to stay and this hotel is breathtaking. It clearly used to be a home and the way they have transformed it is amazing. We ended our two week trip here and it was every bit as relaxing and wonderful as you have read from others. It's quiet and tranquil, which is amazing because when you walk out the front door it's loud and bustling!
The entire hotel is stunning and breathtaking with decor and old charm. We loved the balcony that looked out over the front. The best part was the rooftop pool. (It would be great if they served drinks or food up there!).
We stayed in a room towards the back of the hotel, which is probably why it was so quiet. I would love to stay in a room to the front with a balcony overlooking the square- but that might not be so quiet.
The staff was so incredibly kind and helpful and they were all genuinely happy you are there. We stayed in a smaller room (the bed was huge though), but it was still clean, nice and cool (yay air conditioning because it's HOT in Cartagena).
I will be recommending this hotel to anyone who will listen- it absolutely made our stay. It's also so incredibly affordable for what you are getting. If you're looking for somewhere to stay in Cartagena, look no further!

Unfortunately, the architectural beauty, location and a website that invites are not reflected in the Casa Pombo maintenance, cleaning and service quality.

We rented the house for three days for the wedding of our son. It was a disappointment. The air conditioner was not cooling, the kitchen and utensils were dirty, the apartment was dirty and poorly maintained, the drier did not dry, showers malfunctioning, common areas and bathroom used for the reception leave much to be desired.

Other people have complained about the same (see reviews on the internet) and evidently there are not corrective actions. For the price paid there are much better options.

I must recognize the kindness and willingness to help demonstrated by Hernan and Pedro.

Simply a nightmare... First: it isn't an hotel! It's a house with a very bad maintanance, where they rent you an apartment. NO SERVICE AT ALL: the frigo bar is empty, the bathroom set is extremely poor and bad quality (no shower cup...), you can't order anything from the kitchen: it comes from the hotel kitchen of "casa Pentagua" and it takes hours to come
The third night I also had some guests: 3/4 mouses going around the apartment. They offered me another room but when I went to pay the check no 1 cent off the price. Believe me: keep away from this place!!!

Response from hotelcasapestagua, Manager at Casa Carolina Hotel
Responded Sep 23, 2013

It was a total disappointment for us since we have changed our hotel from Hilton to Casa Pombo.
There are no front desk, you always wait long at the street entrance since there is only one person in charge of the whole place.
The rooms doesn t have fridge and there are no phone numbers instructions to find where there is room service or not.

You are not able to book any spa treatment and last but not least one of our rooms the air conditioner was broken and in the other the bathroom was fludded!

The wirst night abd hotel ever.
The outside sounds were disturbing also.

Unfortunate I have heath issues with mold, parts of the building structure is preserved to keep history intact, Home/Villa turned to Hotel.
The section I stayed in was the old part of the building which faces the street and noisy at night.
The frescos on the wall are preserved but mold scattered around walls, so they put the AC supper high to mask the smell and room is Freezing , not for sleeping but guarantied to wake up with a head cold….Unfortunate I am sensitive to mold so, I had a migraine for two days smelling mold, nausea and coughing…With in the whole structure there is black mold growing it is mainly from the use of sea shells and coral they use as concrete for all their structures so, inside space is exposed to outside elements and rains very often for mold growth..
The room was very historical and romantic in décor ,The main bath with shower you had to go up very steep stairs was not good for my back ,then worry about hitting your head on beam and duck before you go into bathroom, the shower had a big hole on the ceiling pipes exposed with slow water drainage.. When going down the stairs you felt like you were going to fall and had to walk backward. No extra space to put your clothing if you are sharing with another person…

So, apparently I had to move to another hotel, all other rooms were booked. Don’t get me wrong the place was beautiful very unexpected décor when you enter takes your breath away… They were accommodating as far as they could be, which was not much, they did not have extra blanks or pillows, which baffled me..…
They do have other rooms more modern with kitchens and better accommodations.
So, I don’t recommend staying in the old section.

I don’t recommend if you have any disabilities has elevator but to many tiered levels, steps all around the hotel and roof top , pool area.

Please if this was helpful in anyway please give me a helpful vote.

I was one of six friends who stayed at Casa Pombo for four nights in November. Our stay there was magnificent! The location is perfect - right near Parque de Bolivar. The architecture of the building is incredible - you can literally walk out of your living room into a pool with a man-made waterfall. The rooms are spacious with air conditioning. The rooftop pool overlooks other Cartagena rooftops and the main church. The workers at Casa Pombo ran errands for us, including buying us groceries and cooking breakfast. A terrific place to spend time. Our group included two Australians, two Colombians, one Venezualan and a Romanian. Despite our group arriving in Cartagena with different opinions on where we should stay, all of us ultimately LOVED Casa Pombo and will return in the future. We recommend it 100 %.

After -literally- knocking on the door of Casa Pombo, you walk into, perhaps best descriped as a Roman bath place. Pools, the sound of rippling water, plants and quietness...leaving busy Historical Center behind you.

We stayed in the Appt with 3 bedrooms. What a space! We loved the Appt. Airco, WIFI, direct acces to a pool...all fantastic. Only downside is that the Appt is a bit dark and kitchen supplies are scanty. But lot of restaurants right outside your door.

Staff is also friendly and very helpful. So enjoy your stay here!

I had a destination wedding in Cartagena and rented Casa Pombo both for my wedding venue and exclusive space for all of our closes family to stay. The experience from beginning to end was perfect. First, the space is composed of 5 different apartments, each one with 2-3 private rooms; they all have kitchen, living room and some have private balconies. They also have a private suite next to the rooftop pool. For me, as a bride, it was perfect to have family and friends sharing moments together in the same space; however, each one with privacy. We had great moments having breakfast together at the main balcony (16 people eating capacity) and having drinks at the rooftop pool. Second, Edgardo (butler) and Yuli (cook) pampered us ALL weekend with great Colombian breakfasts and great service! As the bride and the "organizer", Edgardo became my right hand (couldn't have made it without him), while Yuli indulged us in exquisite Colombian fruits, traditional fritters, scrambled eggs and coffee. Third, the wedding venue is beautiful and it allows for sufficient space for about a 110 people wedding. The interior patio served as the ceremony space and living room of apartment #201 as the reception. The interior patio has a beautiful tree and the reception venue a huge ceiling with 2 chandeliers, a beautiful and large historic-feel balcony (where I put dessert table) and a antique colonial aesthetic that put everyone in a romantic mood. Definitely, the weekend was all I ever dreamed of! Thank you Edgardo and Yuli for the service and thank you Casa Pombo for owning and maintaining this gem in the heart of Cartagena's old historic center. I will be back!!
