Stayed here for two nights... Cali was a transit stop to places further North but this place and the helpful staff made it a memorable time.

GOOD>
The cozy little lounge and internet area, clean funky room, restaurant downstairs was AMAZING... we had the pasta and pizzas and one of the salads and a juice they were all surprisingly high quality and good value and tasted amazing. The location was perfect, close to the modern art gallery and right in trendy San Antonio....

BAD>
The kitchen was enough to make some noodles and tea or coffee but I think I may have struggled to cook a meal there... the bathrooms only had cold water... this wasn't a problem really because it was warm enough but still a bit rough... The sound travelled through the walls badly... I could hear a guy in the room nextdoor typing quietly on his laptop and sniffling pretty clearly... our room had no window or ventilation... not a huge problem but the roof could easily have a vent of just be take out to reveal the actual roof of old tiles which would look really cool.

STAY HERE... regardless it is really lovely and the staff are fantastic... the female staff member whos name has slipped out of my memory waited for around 30 mins outside to instruct our cab driver in spanish and see us off despite shivering and the young guy who works there talked us out of going to Manizales a city in the coffee region and instead telling to go to Salento which proved to be AMAZING and inhabioted by happy colombian families getting away for the long weekend and about 20 (international) tourists... and that is probably exhagerating.

We arrived just 3 days but we were 8. The kitchen is small but is sufficient for only 4 rooms in the house, the food is perfect, varied, and perhaps the best coffee I've had in the entire city.
The showers have no hot water but not so wet weather is needed after 2 hours you get it. The rooms are simple but beautiful and clean.
The caregivers are wonderful and managed to make us fall in love with Cali, salsa dancing and learn about their beautiful culture, their kindness and their interesting history.
Super recommended for those wishing to discover the authenticity of a place!

It is the best place i have ever stayed. Never have i experienced af staff more helpfull and caring. Paola, the woman running the place, often takes all the guest out to a night with salsa in Avenida Sexta and Tin Tin Deo. Really doing something for the guests, helped us with calling travel agencies, other hostels and taxis when we needed. The rooms were fine, nice with good colors. The kitchen was nothing special, but the café downstairs makes amazing food! Really familiar atmosphere, because it is not to big. Can arrange salsa lessons. Is placed the best place in Cali with other hostels around the corner, so in the night there is a lot of people, locals and travellers in all ages, hanging around the street. Really nice. Always ready for a talk or advices. Go there.

First of, Paola is a fantastic woman, great cook, amazing host. She prepared a scrumptious Christmas dinner for her guests and took us dancing every night, showing us the best night clubs in Cali, kindly let us do the laundry for free, is a wealth of knowledge about Cali and the area. However, the hostel was definitely the filthiest place we had ever stayed at! Words fail me... The sticky dirt in the kitchen... The grubby old dishclothes... The grime and nauseating smell from the fridge... The clouds of dust in the air... We decided to stay only because we had booked a room here based on some reviews (by the way, those negative seem to have disappeared from tripadvisor, including my first review of the place!) and Cali during the feria is completely full, but would not have done it otherwise, nor would we ever recommend the place to anyone. Sad, as it's a nice building and has a lot of potential.

Response from Paola L, Owner at La Casa Cafe Guesthouse

Cali turned out to not be as charming as it was made out to be. However, luckily for us, our stay at La Casa Cafe was. I don't think the people who wrote bad reviews have spent much time in Colombian hostels, because while I understand what they were trying to say... They were really off base.

No, La Casa Cafe isn't a 5* resort, but it is lovely and clean and charming and full of great character with an perfect location and a wonderful owner. Really the location is ideal. It's in a nice, clean, safe neighbourhood, with excellent food options in nearly every direction just minutes away.

You really get a great value out of your stay. The kitchen is limited, but workable, the house has a very homey atmosphere and Paula speaks excellent English and is very helpful as a reference for getting to great places around town.

It is on a fairly busy street, but at night the traffic dies down so it is nice and quiet, it's only noisy during the day. We got fresh towels to use, the showers had great shower heads, the toilets had seat covers and there was always toilet paper in the bathrooms (these are things you begin to cherish). Cleanliness is an issue for me, and I had no complaints here.

If you are in Cali to party, you might find La Casa Cafe too quiet for you, but for us it was the perfect refuge.

It is one of my favorite reviews because it is honest and clear, emphasizes the most details that most interest us we offer the peace and quiet at home, we are not a party hostel and we are pleased to offer the service you describe, it's perfect what we always dreamed to hear from our guests. Thank you very much for this reward to our work, now we only tasked to improve the kitchen.

I spent three weeks at La Casa Cafe, and this hostel truly became a home away from home for me. A calm atmosphere with caring staff- I couldn't recommend this hostel more. I got a small infection while I was here, and the staff called the drug store for me and checked in regularly to ensure I was okay. The beds were comfortable, there's a hot shower, delicious coffee... I was also able to sit in on two different language exchange groups while I was at La Casa Cafe which really helped with my Spanish. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!

We had a great stay at La Casa Cafe.
The staff was super nice always friendly and very helpful!

We stayed in the mixed 4 bed dorm, the beds were a little squeaky but comfortable in general.
The Bathrooms were ok, nothing special but clean.
Breakfast isn't included but we enjoyed it anyway.

The overall atmosphere is very nice, so is the location!
We would definitely stay here again.

I've stayed 3 times at La Casa Cafe and after 2 years of travelling through South America, can honestly say this is one of the best hostel experiences I've had. The reason, hands down, is Paola. She takes very seriously the comfort, security and enjoyment of all her guests. We are made to feel at home, because we are literally in her home.

I've spent two Christmases and New Years at the Casa, when she organized dinners for her guests. She's loaned me things when I found myself in need on a night out. This is truly a home away from home, and light years from the noisy, overcrowded, impersonal party hostels that are shamefully taking over Cali.

Thanks, Paola, for being part of my experiences in Cali!

Are you aware that perhaps it is the most ideal criticism we could have at this moment? The city is transformed and very interesting things happen, unfortunately what it says is very true, now the hostels with party are those that arrive and stay and that is fantastic, La Casa Café, always accompanied, promoted and created until the parties but always outside of the house, because apart from being a guest house it has that concept: it rests at home and the real party is done outside! We are very proud to be the first to introduce this concept in our city and we hope that more customers like you, that we like them a lot. Thank you very much for this great reflection, it helps us to have more conviction about each step we take. (google translator)

La Casa Cafe is a lovely, art-filled hostal, very well located in the San Antonio neighborhood of Cali. They were one of the first hostals in the city, and still set the standard. The rooms on the shared-bath side of the house are bright, with high ceilings and custom made art on the walls. There are multiple social areas, as well as a kitchen area, and a clothes and book exchange. When you book a room, it includes a cup of (espresso) coffee for each individual! Paola, the owner was welcoming and gracious from the minute we arrived on our bicycles, and xontinued to help us throuout our three day stay, including calling a bus company on our behalf to help with extra logistics.
We had a great stay, and would recommend the Casa Cafe to any traveller coming to Cali!

Reading your comment fills us with so many positive emotions. We are the first Hostel in Guesthouse mode that was created and survives in the city. Our house is peaceful and simple, as it should be life itself, that at least is what we want to give on the trip to those who choose us to be their hosts during their passage through our city. I hope that the rest of the trip is just as positive for you. A hug and I hope to see you again ... they are example travelers, a beautiful couple and fantastic people! (google translator)

To be honest, casa café is the best hostal after 3 months traveling. It felt like home. The neighborhood is really nice, salsa clubs in 8 minutes walking & Good lunch spots. Paola is an excellent host en knows everything about Cali en salsa. The room was really big and had a great colonial athmosfere. We stayed here during christmas & feria cali. The rooms where really clean en there are 3 bathrooms. You can use the computer as well. Paola, thank you for your lessons salsa, you’re personality and hopefully we see you again!
