Datong was grey in early May and quiet cold, the hotel was good for the price, unremarkable once the lobby was left, however we had no complaints. Like all seven of the Chinese hotels we stayed on out tour in May 2015 the market they cater for in the main are Chinese tourists, which is very natural given there are... More

Rooms are spacious and clean. The hotel is up at at usual Holiday in standard, the brekfast is good and aboundant and the free wifi works well in the room. The only problem with this hotel is, as often with this chain, that it is notclose atall to the interest points.

You get what you pay for. Nice price, clean room, wifi in the room, but a little bit old structure. Nice staff but not very good english. The city has around 1 million of population, so it's not big for china. So don't expect to find good english here. The gym and pool is located on the other hotel, you... More

The hotel is a decent option if you are staying in Datong, despite what follows! We had a car and it is ideally placed for getting around Datong and getting out to the Yungang Grottoes, Hanging Temple etc, and also for walking to the Drum Tower which is brilliant, the rebuilt city walls which look stunning at night or the... Similar to other hotels I don't know the price as I was on an organised tour. However, this hotel far exceeded those that I stayed in in both Beijing and Xian. The air con worked, the beds were VERY comfortable (soft, but not too soft), fridge in room etc. Breakfast had a good selection as well. The staff were lovely... More

This hotel in Datong was one of the most comfortable we stayed in for our whole time in China. The beds were so soft and the décor really nice. Our breakfast was a good start to the day and we were able to walk of an evening to many different places for food. We had a private guide who took... More

I've read some of the other reviews of this hotel and it must have been renovated since some of them were written. I stayed for two nights to allow me to visit the grottoes at Yungang. The lobby is impressive and check in was efficient. They don't get a lot of foreigners but one staff member spoke excellent English and... More

Not to be confused with Holiday Inn, which is situated directly behind this hotel, the rooms felt starkly different from what the outside presented. Everything felt dated; light bulbs were incandescent, the wallpaper was from an era ago, the TV is still a big grey box (unlike the LCDs they use for advertisements elsewhere). There are also only two elevators... More

We found the Datong Hotel to be well presented on the outside and in the foyer but the rooms were extremely dated and very noisy. We could still hear all the traffic noise even though our room was quite a distance from the street. We travelled through a number of locations in China and understand the beds are usually hard,...
