My 2nd stay in Shangri-la Dalian (after my 1st stay here in July 2019), and it was another great stay. With things back to normal in China, I did not feel much difference from my 1st stay. Room was comfortable and cosy -- clean and tidy every evening when I returned to the room. Staff was nice and the breakfast was super!
The only thing I think can be improved is the ventilation in the breakfast restaurant... As the breakfast include some delicious fried food, there is always some oily smell in the air - you start to worry about the smell of your cloth for the business meeting later.

The Shangri La Dalian is a first class five star hotel, probably one of the best I have ever stayed in. I stayed there for many months on business and I would rate the facilities and staff as the best I have ever exerienced anywhere in the world. Highly recommended.

Parking management can't work. Parking in front of the lobby on the first floor is for dining guests. If you're staying and eating, you can only park in the basement without lift. A very convenient location. My flight arrived late in dalian after a few hours flight delay. The pick up driver has been patiently waiting for my in the arrival haul. When I arrive in the hotel, the room key etc is already prepared for me. I enjoyed the stay in shangrila dalian!

Stayed here for 5 days in May 2005. Weird varnish/chemical smell in the hallways. Curry-like stench comes from the bathroom floor drain at the same time every morning.
Aging decor. Looks like it needs a good major renovation. Cleaning staff very courteous. Concierge not so helpful. Pool attendant rude. Front desk very nice. Bellmen and taxi attendants very nice.
Good location on main thoroughfare, about 30 minutes by car from the airport.
Overpriced for what you get. More like a luxury hotel from the 80's that has seen better days.
If I had a choice I would stay at the newer Swissotel or Hotel Nikko (former Hilton that just changed affiliations), but the Shangri-la was ok.
This is not where I find my "shangri la", as the commercial goes.
