we chose this hostel because the location: seconds of walking to the central street and to the Jewish attractions. the room is quite small but all our needs are in it, especially for a short stay. If one takes into account in advance that no food in the building, it's ok.

Pros: Location. This hostel was very close to Zhongyangdajie, a central street for food and old Russian-style buildings. Cons: A large, mostly empty building with appalling acoustics - we could hear everyone around us, and we were travelling on a weekend in February with few guests. There was an area to sit, but no food to eat. Most importantly, our room was cold and the beds were hard. I like to stay in hostels for the friendly staff, useful tips and atmosphere. This hostel didn't really provide. The Holiday Inn at the far end of Zhongyang Dajie is equally well located and would probably offer a far more comfortable stay. (NB This hostel is no longer based in a synagogue, although it is on the same street)
