My boyfriend and I decided to stay here during the Chinese National holiday and my bday celebration. We got a room upgrade upon arrival for our membership in MO. We were slightly disappointed by the interior deco since my friends have warned me that this is a relatively old hotel. However, the service was nice. He had seasick and the pool guy found him some medicine :) We had a pleasant stay in general. Thank you MO team!
Nice location, beautiful, secluded and near downtown. My room was spacious, clean, comfortable bed and fast internet. The room seemed to be renovated short time ago. Excellent breakfast quality. Service was good. Exterior area lack of care, too many dirty plates and trays around the pool and stays the whole day (if collect in the same day). pathways lack of care: used napkins, bottles , used cups, used cans, etc.. to often found for a 5 star hotel. I expect a little more for hotel considering the brand name and the price paid. It was not bad but definitely it is not on the top.
It's expensive, but it all feels worth it. Mandarin Oriental feels like a true experience, not just somewhere to stay. The food is good for Westerners and the perks for being a "fan" are worth it considering it's free to sign up. We were very well taken care of by Mihai and Nicky. The only thing to keep in mind is table service at restaurants takes quite a while. It was a bit annoying when you're waiting for food and hungry.
Good cuisine in Sanya. Great views and location. Would return in the future. Language barrier does exist but staff do try to assist and resolve queries in a descent amount of time. With the high occupancy rate staff did try to resolve weather delays at breakfast and dinner as well as buggy calls.
Wonderful Hotel in a beautiful setting right on the beach. Great food, fantastic breakfast and very attentive and efficient staff! Romantic dinner just next to the waves! Ocean breeze rooms are a special treat.
Overall a great experience for a few days getaway in Sanya. The staff was very attentive, kind, and helpful. The beach of the hotel is one of the better options in Sanya but still a bit too rocky and not a long enough stretch to go for a real walk. I had one incident while there in which I was woken up early at 7am due to loud road repairs. However, it was dealt with very quickly and never happened again. The hotel handled it very well, even offering champagne as an apology which was greatly appreciated. Super professional staff. The room I was in had direct access to a shared pool, highly recommend. You could also get out of the pool and be on the beach in a second. The only downside is that for the price, the room is a little bit small and a bit outdated in style.
The F&B staff is excellent - they do try hard to give you a personalized experience. tried all the restaurants and was satisfied with the level of service and the food quality. The breakfast staff remembered us and our preferences which was very much appreciated. We liked the sunset dining BBQ and the staff was very attentive there as well. we went several times to Sunset bar and also enjoyed a lot this experience. a bottle was a bit old and they agreed to open a new one, which was nice. they also serve you all kind of snacks while drinking. and there is live music. the Chinese restaurant set is of good value. the beach is rocky but still swimmable. the pools are great, both adults and active pools. there is a fun slide at the pool too. its huge and not many people actually use it. same for the beach, you'll probably be alone swimming most of the time Gym is nice + sauna which was enjoyable during rainy days. also have badminton and pingpong court. spotted some wildlife - not so common in Sanya ! proximity to downtown is a plus to check other food outlets in town. In general the service is of high standard and very polite. If you go to more hotels in Sanya you'll see that is not something that common - so it means the staff and management is working really hard to keep high standards. What I didn't like · Stop treating your guests at the beach like kids - I don't like being stopped while at the swim at the snorkeling part of the beach because 'its dangerous' or 'rocky'. Beach guys not friendly at the snorkeling side. Maybe Chinese people don't like personal responsibility but pls don't treat westerners like kids at the beach - its very very very annoying. Food prices are high / prices do not necessarily always reflect the quality of the food. Operations at the phone too slow - needs hours for simple things at times. just getting a bottle of water in the room was a hassle. soundproof is not good, you can sometimes hear quite well your neighbors Equipments in the room need some improvement - its a rather old hotel if you compare it to others in Sanya in term of modern amenities. For instance, they do not even have a coffee machine - which is probably not even worth half the room price. finance is chaotic to get the bill amount right - a bit awkward during checkout, we are not responsible for calculating the price for you... also too bad the cigar lounge /jazz bar is closed. Overall its a nice place. If you prioritize outdoor activity like snorkeling, swimming at the beach, I think its as good or better than Park Hyatt for instance, as it is one of the rare hotel with a private and swimmable beach in Sanya. And the service in general is much better than most hotels in Sanya.…
We enjoyed the classiness, quiet, calm but also family friendliness of Mandarin Oriental. What really made our vacation there special was the absolutely outstanding, personalized service by all the team: from reservation, check-in, food and beverage, and transportation - staff anticipated our needs, responded to our every request quickly and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was relaxing and special. Service standards are low in China and I have rarely had my expectations met even at international brand resorts. Mandarin Oriental exceeded my expectations, even for a resort outside of China and I would stay there again without hesitation. I will look for other Mandarin Oriental hotels when we can someday travel outside of China in the future. Special thanks to Ben, Nicole, Mihai, the DM and Edgar. We loved our hillside suite - and very much appreciated an upgrade to ocean view! - which had a spacious bathroom, wood paneled walk-in closet, enough room in the bedroom for an extra bed for our daughter and a separate, spacious living room and kitchen area. MO has its own private stretch of beach though it is a bit rocky and the water was too rough for swimming at the time of year we visited. The various pools are a great alternative, but important to note water conditions if you are looking for swimming beach for kids. We loved that the there were enough other families with kids that our daughter found friends to play with, but pools were still quiet with music (my personal pet peeve) only played softly briefly in the afternoon when there was small bubble party for kids, which we enjoyed.…
This is by far the worst experience I've had among all the luxury hotels (Six Sense, Rosewood, Park Hyatt etc.) and I honestly think Mandarin Sanya should not hold the Mandarin name. I will give 2 examples, though there are many more examples. First one is the receptionists accepted people cutting the line and when I went over to argue with her, she said "we prioritize guests who are checking out". Not to mention that I was also checking out, in what universe should this rule prevail? And why on earth there are only 2 receptionists working at 11am? Second example is really the cleaning. We asked for some towels and it was delivered after at least 40min. The room cleaning was also pretty late at 3-4pm despite the fact that we went out in the morning (hence the best time) and came back in the afternoon. I hope you guys can really think about the service quality, until then, I am no longer a fan.…
We went for a short break, looking for relax, after very intensive months since we left Europe. Arrived at the airport, a car was waiting for us (part of our package). Lovely lady as a driver, she driven long the coast, to give us the opportunity of a more scenic view. Once arrived, Mr Tiberiu Mihai Caliani, Guest Service Manager, took immediately care of us. All the information were fully detailed and since those first minutes, he was always available for any kind of request or need. But it was not only Mr Caliani: all the staff has been always fantastic. There were so many, so it’s difficult to remember all the names: Chloe and her colleagues at the Fresh Restaurant (highly recommended); Samantha in the morning, at the breakfast; Nicky and his staff and the Sunset bar, our last place every evening, where to taste nice cocktails and listen live music, performed by a young and very nice couple; Mr Ben Zhang, Food & Beverage Manager; Mr Ben, in charge of the Wave bar; Mrs LInda at the Spa. But also all the staff taking care of the green area, so enjoyable to walk through every day. To relax, you can chose within multiple swimming pool and of course, the sea; water sports , Shaolin Tai Chi (for your mind) with Master Hu (we had the chance to try also a tea ceremony with him) , private yoga class (we don’t remember the name of the teacher unfortunately) or simply stay cool, reading and listening live music played by a singer with his guitar (Metallica and Led Zeppelin top). From Breakfast to dinner, you can chose between several food options. One recommendation: be ready to a very humid and hot weather!…
