With so much hype and anticipation , this rosewood property just simply failed to deliver. Check-in: During the check-in, a lady, who looked like a seasoned professional, was supposed to put a pre-authorized charge (close to $3000) on my credit card (for security deposit ). Instead, she charged my credit card right away. Though I gave her credit for refunding me immediately after she realized the mistake, the oversight, which could have and should haven avoided, is still shocking given the caliber of the hotel. In-room amenities: The fridge is broken. I called operator, telling her something wrong with the fridge.- all the drinks in it were at room temperature. Initially I was told it was supposed to be like that. But I asked her again if this is really the case for their fridges, she told me she would send an engineer to check. After some “investigation” , the engineer concluded that the fridge was broken – some kind of heat ventilation problem, he brought in another fridge to replace the broken one. And later on, it turned out that one wasn’t working either. Service: The room I booked was a room with a pool. But given the weather, it’s pretty much useless. (As a matter of fact, I had been assured that by the hotel ( I called ahead of my arrival to check whether the pool temperature is suitable for swimming) I would be able to take advantage of the pool of the room. But who are you kidding?! With that, I decided to move to a non-pool room, which, I thought, might have a working fridge. No, it turned the fridge was (and it seems fridges in all the rooms) the still the same – room temperature - why bother with a fridge in the room ?? To add insult to the injury, the room rate initially charged was the “front desk” rate. Only after being presented with their own online room rate, the duty manager adjusted the rate – not before giving me some lame excuses. Meal: Terrible! Dishes my partner and I ordered at their EAST kitchen were so salty that we just threw our hands up The final nail in the coffin : Cockroach! On the morning of checking out, I found a cockroach on the bed. Speechless!!! This whole experience is such a letdown! I know we should never say never. But for this property, NEVER! Just a suggestion for those who still want to book this property for their vacation, don’t bother with panoramic ocean view pool room. the view is really underwhelming – much less impressive than what’s presented on their website!

This was a beautiful luxury hotel with a view of spacious grounds and the waterfront. I loved the rooftop infinity pool and bar for lunch. The breakfast had multiple menu choices in addition to the plentiful buffet. Dinner at the restaurants was delicious and unique. Based on our experience here, I would choose another Rosewood hotel. The highlight was access to the chefs and the delicious foods. If you love seafood, this is a must try place. We had stayed at a different hotel in the area with tasteless overcrowded buffets so this was a refreshing change for about the same price. Included in our room package was a massage. It was a great experience- very calming after a day of sightseeing. The grounds make use of tropical plants and the large swimming area and fountains. I highly recommend this hotel.

Positive: - great service; I even don’t know who to highlight of them: the chef or the service guys at the breakfast, the nice guys at the Chope House or the friendly persons at the reception... I just felt very welcome. After some days the service welcome us with our names and they already were aware of our preferences, wow what a service! - really nice rooms; we had one with ocean view and the view was really amazing. Additionally, there was absolutely everything what you want within the rooms, and additionally the architect just did a great job - a really good job regarding the interior - you just need to arrive and you will feel happy! - the food; I highly recommend the restaurant Chop House - from my point of view absolutely high class food for quite fair prices - the service and the food?! A dream comes true... - beach side and Infinity pool; an amazing view in and amazing environment; you can take nice pictures and just enjoy the view and the landscape... - the music; the music?! Yes, in the restaurants, at the bar etc. they are playing everywhere really nice and chilled music - gym; the gym was very good; there is everything what you need for some holiday work out - there is also every time somebody for assistance! Could be a bit better: - it would be nice to have a small bar or maybe some places with shadow as well on the beach side, because the beach is too nice to miss it Remark: - the Sanya Bay is almost 45 / 50 minutes away - we were there during the corona time at the hotel while non abroad tourist where there.. maybe therefore it was also quite relaxed

We stayed a whole week in two separate rooms with sea-view. The design of the rooms is very airy and very spacious for chinese standards with a generous amount of amenities provided in the room. In our room the bathroom was seperated from the toilet and the actual shower could be accessed from two sides (bathroom area and the livingroom). Furthermore, all rooms have a balcony with a small lounge, a minibar and a small office/sitting area and a bathtub in which you can overlook the hotels garden towards the ocean. The whole layout of the hotel is well-thought-out and one can find many great examples for the love for details. This beautiful luxury hotel offers an extensive garden towards the beach front. In the garden there are three stretch of water. One being a pond right after leaving the building with some lounges to relax and enjoy the landscapes. The others are the pools. One is a larger one in which one easily can enjoy swimming your lengths, whearas the other one is thought to be the family pool which has also parts with shallow areas for children to enjoy the water. It’s unique infinity pool (HAI) with bar at the rooftop of the hotel part of the whole complex provides stunning views. For this reason it’s also a very popular spot for asian want-to-be-influencer or KOL. Personally, the constant selfi-battle was at the beginning hilarious to observe, but soon got more than annoying. Everyone should be granted their picture of the really nice and stylish rooftop combined with the stunning view (yes I took a few myself too) but for some guests, especially the female counterparts, it was litterally a selfy-orgy. Even worse, apparently it’s possible to have professional photoshoots at the rooftop, which I considered very disturping and far from relaxing. I wouldn’t be able to tell in how many picutres I might appear. This might be my first suggestions for improvement: As a luxury hotel chain, something should be done to protect the other guests „privacy“ more carefully. I constantly was worried to be in someones frame, which can be very stressful when the hotel is booked. Other facilities included, SPA, gym, kids playroom. Myself I enjoyed the gym and this was a real gym and not just 1 treadmill like in other hotels I stayed in China. The gear is from a worldwide recognized manufacturer. The breakfast buffet was plentyful and varied every other day between Hainanese and European style. However, being 90% (or even more) of their guests are Chinese, there will always be Asian breakfast dishes, regardless of what cuisine. Eventhough the dishes within each cuisine seemed to be the same, the buffet was so plentiful, one had never to eat the same at breakfast. Compared to the rather typical tasteless buffet from other hotels the quality of the food was very high and was very delicious. Notably another example for the attention of details, the crockery wasn’t just a cheap chinaware. Most of the plates were made by Villeroy & Boch. For Lunch and Dinner there are two more restaurants on site. We tried all and every restaurant has the same standards. Meaning you will have delicious options for seafood, Asian kitchen and meat at „campus“. Certainly the dishes come at a certain price tag, but we never regretted it. As a wine lover, you can find a decent selection from wines (especially at Chop House) but also, unlikely to what we have experienced in China before, you get to tast the wine before you buy the glass, carafe or bottle. Not least, the staff received a proper training (international standard) how to present and pour the wine. All the staff in direct contact with guests is well trained, helpful and attentive. In the restaurants empty plates were cleared fast, even cleaning/gardening staff greeted the guests at the entrance you were welcomed back...all the small details that make you feel welcome. One day the housekeeping even folded tree pairs of trousers in our room we had left behind on a chair. Even the cord of my laptop or phone charger was properly coiled up when left open and unplugged (attention to details). However, the level of spoken English may vary. Nevertheless all staff did their best to communicate in English with international guests, even with translation apps or other means. Again this may be due to the fact that the main part of guests is form China. Throughout our stay I haven’t seen too many international guests (this is actually true for the whole Haitang Bay area) The Rosewood WiFi seems to be linked to an VPN and therefore, allows access to the usually blocked websites like Facebook, Gmail, Twitter and Google. Staying in this hotel no personal VPN is recquired to bypass censorship. However, the WIFI connection requires no PW, which for me is always a concern. At times it was a bit slow, but hey, holiday is to get away from your daily distress. Overall I highly recommend the Rosewood hotel in Sanya, as it did reflect the followed philosophy „A Sense of Place“. Even more it seems to be a hotel with a learning curve. Numerous complaints where (1) answered in a professional manner and (2) obviously dealt with in detail, as no such thing (whatever the complaint was) was present anymore. It was worth every penny, they might get not everything right, but will make sure it wont happen again. Alone based on that experience I would choose another Rosewood hotel in the future. points of improvement: -if bottled water, why not glass? -in the corridor of the room I could made use of a stool (I'm pretty certain I would have gotten one if I asked for it) -My wife used the Loofah once and after a couple of days it was replaced with a new one. Why not personalize as a memory for guests? -in general there are some ways to reduce even more waste

I have in particular appreciated the very hospitable and friendly staff(Danny), always ready to help out but also interested in engaging in some small talk which makes the stay so much more fun.
