I spent three nights at InterContinental Shenzhen as a short break between meetings in Guangdong province, and it was very enjoyable. First of all, I was surprised to find such an oasis pretty much inside the city. The architects and interior designers must have been on a loose leash/budget, and the massive property is developed with a fusion between Chinese and Spanish, with inspiration and elements from both cultures. This includies two full-scale (pirate?) ships in the tropical garden, some «torero-inspired» uniforms - and you also randomly find «toros» in all shapes around the property. Somewhat special, but I really enjoyed their garden, in particular that some of the trees must have been kept intact during development (since they reach to the sixth floor). I also loved the small stretch of «beach» with real sand. Environment-wise, I am happy that they have started removing disposable plastics from the rooms, while keeping high quality shampoos and so on. Great start! There is still room for improvements in this area, though, so that one day they can operate in line with Shenzhen’s vision of being a Zero Waste City. I treated myself to a Club InterContinental room, and service in the lounge was mostly really good. A big thank you to Kai Dong in particular, for kindly assisting me with everything - big and small. He even assisted me with arranging my Covid test, and also helped me with a range of other tasks. He was always very professional and particularly attentive, and most of his colleagues are also very service-minded. They also had excellent teas and a great outdoor area. Thank you also for allowing me to use the small conference room for my speech to an online event. A few suggestions for improvements for the lounge: Cheese in oil (feta) should have its own utensils (I think a spoon would be most useful). The food on the buffet mostly had good written descriptions (I don’t eat meat, so this is important for me) but not always. For afternoon tea on the last day, only the sweets were without meat, and for the Chinese evening buffet, non-meat options were also limited. Half of the time, soda water was served in a glass, but half of the time the can was just put on the table. A couple of times, the staff took away our glasses and did not refill them as we had asked for (probably a language issue). During check-in, I only got information about the lounge opening hours after asking for it. But all in all, I am thankful, and in particular for the help with organizing my test - I recognize this goes beyond what one can normally expect. My room on the 7th floor was great, in particular the bath-room, the walk-in closet and the balcony. Housekeeping were super-polite, efficient, and left the room spotless every day. Surprisingly for a five-star hotel, though, there was no turndown service. I also missed having drinking water close to the bed. When a hotel representative added me on WeChat after check-in and asked me if the room was okay, I mentioned the water issue, and she responded she would note it down for my next visit. I work out often, and drink a lot of water, and in other five-star hotels, housekeeping just normally adds some extra water when they notice this - without me having to bring it up. Adding it «for my next visit» is hardly walking the extra mile for your guests… The best would of course be if there was an option to refill your water bottle in different locations at the hotel instead of using disposable bottles (I refilled mine at the gym, but that was probably a 500 meter walk:-) Yes, the property is massive, and walking to the room was a bit of an exercise in itself, in particular with luggage (it is difficult to understand why hotels need to have those deep carpets in the corridors that make it practically impossible to roll your suitcase…) So to the main reason the hotel gets a five instead of four - their gym. They have an absolutely excellent gym, very well managed by Ross and his team (the gym and spa facilities are managed by a third-party operator named Waterfall), and the gym has all the equipment and space one needs for solid and varied work-outs. I did not have the time to try the spa or their personal trainers but that would be on the list for next time! Finally, I did have the time to try their lobby bar, and their bartender (I did unfortunately not catch his name) made excellent dry and dirty martinis! I wish there would also have been some food and beverage service by the outdoor pool (I guess it is low season and understandable that the pool bar was not open, but a small menu with the option to order from inside would heighten the experience considerably, and I think the staff overlooking the pool would have time to administrate it…). I hope I will have the full-service experience next time. For there will be a next time, and I can absolutely recommend staying with InterContinental Shenzhen, in particular if they step up a bit on the points mentioned above.

It is always a delight to stay at the Intercontinental Hotel in Shenzhen. I had not been staying there for over two years. Coming back and staying at the hotel was really like staying at home away from home. The hotel room is always very quiet. The view from the balcony is magnificent. I cannot wait for my next stay at the hotel. Thanks to Yuku and Lilian for taking care of my stay. Special thanks to Kris Wu who left me a great impression of the hotel. 10 out of 10 to the staff at the hotel!!! Sure. I am going to plan for the next stay soon. So long.

From the time you step into the hotel. You felt it is home away from home. It is not like the typical business hotel. But make you felt as you're at home when you're at your room. The room with its personal balcony and with greenery outside. And one will not woke up by the noise pollution of the city even at the middle of Shenzhen. Lastly I will like to thanks Hina who helped me when I checked in. She is extremely helpful and warm.

Fairly pleasant 3-night stay. My Royal Ambassador status is well recognised. The staff were very friendly and really appreciated the help from Nicole Zheng at the club lounge. The room assigned was very spacious and well presented. They have a decent gym and pool as well. The only thing i would complain is the room temperature might be too high for me and was difficult to adjust. which made me difficult to fall asleep in the night . Would say 8 out 10 and will come back again

I was in Shenzhen for a business trip. This is when there where alot of cases of COVID in nanjing so the checks for health codes etc was very serious. As a person who cant read Chinese I needed alot of help getting through each of the screens. The front desk lady I think her name was Helen was so supportive. She switched to talk to me in english and patiently guided me through all of the information that I needed to provide and sign some papers to guarantee that I wasn't in high risk regions. The stay was wonderful, the room was spacious and the FNB was solid. Only downside is that this hotel is very popular and their are alot of families so expect to be crowded. Real MVP is the Clown makes little balloon animals for the kids. He really calmed the kids down and gave them something excited about. If you have a family this is a great place.
