Home Inn is a China chain of hotels and they all have extra hard, back breaking beds.
We wanted the Home Inn on the bund, but it was full so we settled for this near the "Rainbow shopping center", a short bus ride away from the Bund. It's set in a residential area so it's quiet on this side street. The lobby is not much to look at and shows signs of aging. Lift is good but the carpet on floor 6, where we stayed was damp and musty, smelling of fungus. The rooms did not have this smell.
There is small shower/toilet area with a plastic shower curtain that does not do a good job of containing the shower water in the tray - the floor gets wet. This is fairly clean, but one bad plumbing job in most China hotels is that they leave out the S water trap, therefore sewage smell seeps in through the waste water outlet and stinks up the toilet. Solution - cover it with a wet towel to keep the smell out. Room is comfortable and small.
