This is probably as good as it gets for a boutique hotel in China. The triplet room was very spacious and clean. Though the hotel is a bit far from most businesses on the island, there are restaurants not too far away. Breakfast is slightly better than most Chinese hotels. It was a very nice hotel to chill in. Make sure you arrive at the ferry terminal closest to the hotel! It literally is just a minute away!
I recently had the opportunity to visit Xiamen. The location along the China coast was nice but my highlight was staying a few days on Gulangyu Island, Although it is very convenient to get there from both sides of the river in Xiamen, it feels as if you have left modern China and traveled back to a calmer more enjoyable place. The island still has some late 19th ' early 20th century homes along with small family run and very enjoyable restaurants.Leisurely walks around the island are a must and the climate is enjoyable most of the year. The Penero is ideally located near the landing from the HaiCangWan ferry landing on the west side of the island. the hotel itself is very nice and with most rooms having a small balcony - very romantic.
Location is good, in a more quiet part of the island. However the renovation and the plastic windows forces to bring earplugs. The carpet throughout the hotel is dirty and in the room extremely dirty. Bring your slippers for the shower!
