Welcome to an icon of Punta Arenas! With years of experience, Cabo de Hornos Hotel is an icon of the capital of Patagonia. It stands in the historic center of the city as a guardian and witness of the history of Punta Arenas and its cultural heritage, being a fundamental part of its development. With a privileged location, in the historic center of Punta Arenas, Cabo de Hornos is steps away from the main cultural, gastronomic, historical and business attractions of the city. We are distinguished by our warmth and the attention we put into details, as the rest and comfort of our guests is essential, in an environment that delicately combines our pride for the local with a contemporary style, taking care of the classics of good service. We are a meeting place, the gateway to the most remote areas of Patagonia and Antarctica, which for years has welcomed travelers from all over the world and explorers of the end of the continent. We are waiting for you!

Lovely large lobby and dining room. Rooms are fine, although outlet challenged for charging electronics. Good breakfast, very good location. Stayed with a tour so can't speak to value, but probably fine. Good pisco sours at bar, which is nice for hanging out.

Sadly we only had one night here. Had a lovely room overlooking the square. Enjoyed our breakfast, nothing exceptional, just the usual hotel buffet spread. A really good location for restaurants and the seafront.I wish we had been able to stay longer

This stately old boutique hotel has been redecorated and modernized (up to a point), and is good value. Right on the historic square it is ideally located for seeing around the town, even on a blustery day. The bathroom had a bathtub – for me a plus – though no plug: improvisation was needed. The room, though spacious, was also slightly stuffy and smelled of carpet cleaner. But it was luxuriously comfortable, and the restaurant was excellent: high-end but not overpriced, and breakfast was ok, with more sweet than savoury items. The only blemish was that my made-to-order vegetarian omelette had ham in it. But the scrambled egg I finally took instead was fine. Although not needed on the day, I noticed that the hotel has a store of umbrellas for guest use.

We stayed at this hotel as part of an Antarctica expedition cruise package (both before and after the cruise), and also one night paid on our own before the group met. The location can’t be beat, as it’s right across from one of the main squares in town, and walking distance to many shops, cafes, restaurants, and the beach. The property itself appears to be one of the larger hotels in the area, but with the growth in tourism and expedition cruising, it looks like more are being built – so this hotel may not be the ‘biggest’ in town for long. Since the hotel is on a main street, transfer/tour buses are able to park directly in front (for a short while), which is helpful. There are only steps leading to the lobby, and no ramp, which can be a bit tricky with heavy luggage. Similarly, there are only two small(ish) elevators in the lobby, so at times there was a line. The façade and main floor/lobby of the hotel have an inviting look and warm feel, and it seems like it’s maybe been updated in recent years. We stayed in two different rooms – one of them on a corner, which had 3 windows, and one in the center, which had 1 window. In both cases, the rooms felt a little less updated than the lobby; parts of the room felt new, but other parts, like the bathtub, bathroom walls, tile, etc., feel like they need a refresh. Nonetheless, both rooms were clean and comfortable. I especially loved the cozy duvet, although the mattresses were a bit too squishy for my liking. Some have mentioned issues with the temperature control, and it’s true there is no thermostat – there are only water-powered radiators, and we couldn’t figure out how to turn them on in one room, or turn them off in the other. The windows can crack open a bit, but that’s only somewhat helpful. Speaking of windows – in our corner room, the bathroom has a large picture window. There’s a bit of a frosted lining on part of the window, but not all. This made it really awkward when showering at night with the light on in the bathroom, as there was a tall building with windows just across the way, and people could literally see into our bathroom. Who in the world thinks this is a good design? Either frost the entire window, or put a curtain/blind over the window – it’s a bathroom! The only other complaint we had about the room was that one of the windows had a lovely blackout curtain, but the other one didn’t, and it didn’t fit the window properly – so tons of light came in. Similarly, there were massive cracks around the front door frame, letting in way more light than we preferred. The WiFi was complimentary, and it worked well. The breakfast was also included, and it was only mediocre. It was a massive spread of items, but it still managed to have very little substance; just some runny scrambled eggs and some potatoes made up the ‘hot’ part of the offerings. The rest of the items should be categorized as a continental breakfast, really – cold cuts of meat, cheese, fruit, pastries, and cold cereal. There were carafes of self-serve black coffee, and also some milk and juice. If you wanted anything else, you had to order it separately and pay for it. Overall, we were not unhappy with our stay at this hotel – but if I were in the area again in the future, I might check out the other options just to see what else there is, as I would’ve preferred a more robust breakfast, more light-blocking in the room, and a more updated bathroom.

A great spot lessened!!! cool lobby but no personality, nor any clue what, why nor where it is. Sorry. A town like Punta Arenas needs no frauds. Unfortunately I think this establishment is in serious need of staff training, understanding of its place and especially appreciation of the footing it holds. The staff tries hard, just seems unguided.

Stayed here for two nights prior to a cruise. Very nice hotel. Lobby lounge area is very large. Great drinks and inviting area for lounging. Rooms are very nice - our bath was oversized and bedding was very comfortable. we had a corner room with nice views. The hotel is right on the main square and you can walk to shopping/restaurants etc very easily. Hotel staff was very helpful. Would visit and stay here again when in Punta Arenas

It’s a 3.5 - a really nice hotel that sadly falls short in some ways that could be fixed easily. The good: beautiful lobby and rooms, friendly front desk staff, great location and views. The less good: the rooms are LOUD and very hot, even when it is only 50 degrees F outside. The staff were unresponsive other than telling us to turn off the heat (it was off) and to open the windows (but then it’s unbelievably loud at night cars revving their engines, people whistling, blowing off firecrackers, and so much noise until 2 am). You literally can feel heat coming up from the floor by the bathroom. Also, the shades in our room were broken as was the safe, though they fixed the latter quickly. Also, we twice blew an electrical fuse. The front desk staff often respond to requests (like for fan or for something lost) by saying they will check or call housekeeping, but then never get back to you. After two nights in room 510 facing the front door, we changed to room 503. It was still warm but quieter with the windows closed. Bring a small electric fan and ask for a room in back of the hotel. I wish they’d just buy some floor fans.

We stayed here 2 nights ago after showing up at our Cabana to discover that it was unavailable. We were pleasantly surprised! The room was a decent size, the bed extremely comfortable, the shower had good pressure (and there was a bathtub). Breakfast was good, dinner was good and the staff were great. We were in a corner room with a view toward the water and the bank across the street.

Our experience at this hotel was positive despite several negative aspects of the place. First, the positive: The hotel staff is well trained, caring and make every effort to please. This was the case for the reception team, the bell team, housekeeping, restaurant staff and everyone else we dealt with. The hotel is clean and the public areas well appointed. As for the negative: Our room was very small; the heating system could not be controlled; the windows cannot be opened except for a small inlet at the top; there was no air circulation and we were told that there are NO FANS in the entire hotel. It was cold outside, and when the wind was blowing hard, the room was comfortable. In short, the air circulation was based on what was happening outside the hotel and not in the room. Breakfast was included and was awful. For an extra charge, we got cafe lattes which were good. I don’t care about breakfasts and I wouldn’t mention it but for the fact that most reviews get into that so it seems to be important to many travelers. The bad breakfast was surprising in view of the fact that the restaurant food was great. SO what does all this mean? I would stay there again despite the negatives. It’s probably the best you can do in Punta Arenas. The small room, windows that do not open and poor air circulation/uncontrollable heat (there is no air conditioning) are what you find in every hotel in Patagonia and for that fact, most of Chile and Argentina. My suggestion to the hotel is this: BUY SOME FANS.
