Authenticity and contrasts. Dreamt up and designed by South East Asia enthusiasts, Sala Lodges embraces its simplicity to evoke a feeling of pure luxury, perfectly suited for accommodating guests with discerning yet laid-back expectations. With an easy convenient location by just 10 minutes walking to attraction areas. The eleven wooden houses on stilts were spotted in villages in the Cambodian countryside, dismantled, transported and beautifully restored to offer the ultimate in comfort to guests. Each house, with its different history and architecture affords Sala Lodges its quality as a unique and intimate hotel. The communal areas provide a slick and contemporary feel to the hotel. The clean, modern lines of the reception, restaurant, bar and swimming pool accentuate the contrast with the traditional houses.

The staff and owner could not have done more to make our stay better. They were super attentive while also being extremely discrete at the same time. For example, our room was made up twice a day and despite the fact that we came and went at all sorts of time we never ran into someone in our room.
We slept all four of us in the Bram House (5). They made up two single beds for the kids (10 and 15). But the bigger / family house would be great for a family if you want more space (we were fine in the smaller house).
The pool was exceptional, and we loved ordering lunch and juices to have poolside.
The rooms (houses) and the grounds are so beautiful. Comfortable beds, huge bathroom, cupboard space, great air-conditioning, and lovely balcony to sit on in the afternoons with one of their delicious cocktails.
A $2 tuk tuk ride will get you almost anywhere in town from Sala Lodges. Or the staff will take you in their own tuk tuk for $3, which you can charge to the room.
I recommend staying here. You will not regret it.

This a genuinely beautiful hotel. The basic design idea has been to purchase old farmhouses in the country side and relocate them to a spacious and lush garden compound in Siem Reap. The effect is a little like a village museum, except with more flowers and a swimming pool. It's a haven of peace and calm, an oasis in a hot, dusty and busy town. I loved staying in an old restored farmhouse. The dark wood beams, polished wood floors and shutters vaguely reminded me staying in an old house in Kyoto, although this was very much a tropical experience. The overall effect isn't rustic however. Everything works and storage space and bathrooms are very well thought through. The cleaning team were discrete and highly efficient. I am not sure how they managed it, however pillows were fluffed and mosquito nets draped with no sense of intrusion. The visual appeal of the hotel is so strong that a few young Cambodian couples choose it for wedding photographs, posing in their traditional finery outside the old houses.

This is an owner run enterprise and Simone and Arne are warm and approachable and very helpful. Our family felt so relaxed here that we ate almost all of our meals at the open sided hotel restaurant. The Cambodian dishes were excellent, something of a culinary discovery after spending time in Vietnam. The restaurant staff were welcoming and attentive. We also had several great treatments at the in house spa. Sala Lodges helped with guides and transport (they have their own tuk tuks), and excursions to Beng Mealea and to Kompong Pluk. These were informative, with everything on time and exceeding expectations. The concierge team also helped with circus tickets and a visit to a fascinating charity that trains giant rats to de-mine rural areas. They also recommended a few outlets for fair-trade Khmer silk.

I felt that given our family had a limited amount of time, Sala Lodges offered up a fantastic experience of Cambodia. The excellent service continued after we left. My wife left some valuable jewellery in her room and the hotel contacted us promptly and organised for DHL to send it on to London. So often these types of travel stories end in tears, however it was great to get the jewellery returned a few days after we arrived home.

We stayed at Sala Lodges for 4 nights. This place is really lovely. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Service, from the lobby to the restaurant to the room cleaners was amongst the best we had ever experienced anywhere. The rooms are unique in that they are converted traditional Khmer huts. Although there is a feeling of authenticity to them which is very attractive, these huts are not rustic. The interiors are beautifully adorned with modern a/c, bathrooms, showers and all amenities. The furniture is traditional Cambodian but very high end and comfortable. The accommodation really was superb. The food was fresh and delicious with a variety of traditional dishes and some western options. Having tried most items on the menu, I would recommend the traditional items as they really were delicious. The cocktails were excellent and were made from juices that we watched them squeeze from fresh fruit. Although everything was top notch at this hotel, by far the highlight was the service. Everyone was just incredibly helpful and friendly at all times. They really went out of their way to make our stay and our visit around Siem Reap wonderful. The hotel is also within about a 5 to 10 minute drive from the city centre which was perfect. Going to all of the markets took a short tuk tuk ride but we were just far enough away that the hotel grounds were quiet and peaceful. We highly recommend this place.

I stayed at Sala lodges 10 years ago for my 50th birthday and had such an amazing experience. I decided to have my 60th birthday there with a group of friends.

If you’re looking for somewhere to have a special occasion, or just a quite getaway this is the place, with their houses placed around the property so everybody can has their own privacy, with plenty of places to come together and have a meal, drinks or swimming in the pool.

I contacted Sala lodges direct to book the houses we needed, from then everything was organised over email, airport transfers, restaurant bookings, activities, they just made it so easy to turn up and relax, knowing everything was taken care of.

The staff are amazing, kind and friendly and nothing was too much bother, this just added another layer to a fantastic experience of staying in one of their unique houses.

The food was delicious, my favourite was the fresh pastries and bread at breakfast.

I chose to have a barbecue for my birthday dinner, which was held at Ma Om restaurant at Sala lodges.
Everybody was talking about how delicious the food was wonderful service we received that evening.

I can’t thank the staff enough for making this a birthday to remember.

Absolutely loved it, 14 traditional Cambodian lodges spaced out in gorgeous tropical grounds, an ideally proportioned pool and sun deck area, plus a top class restaurant makes this place hard to beat.

If it hadn't been for the temples and other excursions, I would have happily stayed within the grounds of Sala Lodges for my complete vacation.

The commitment of the management to the environment is most commendable and helps them deliver a wholesome and relaxing atmosphere.

It didn't bother me (I found it quite amusing), but some might be disturbed by the local reptiles - the lizards and frogs get quite vocal after dark - But Sala Lodges provide ear plugs by the bed in case you need them.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this superbe review of your stay with us at Sala Lodges. We are very strong believer in Circular Economy and environmentally sustainable practices in hospitality from the start of this Authentic Hotel project more than 10 years ago. At Sala Lodges every thing is from Cambodia including the Tokaj (reptile who are big inoffensive lézard making this loud song from time to time), therefore with the exception of my wife and I and the wine on the menu al the rest is from Siem Reap and the surroundings! While visiting Angkor , why not stay at what is quite simply one the best hotels in the world? Our “room” was a traditional Cambodian house converted into a luxe bedroom with all the accoutrements. The grounds are gorgeously landscaped, the food delish, and your hosts, Arne and Simone, friendly and totally knowledgeable with a sensational staff. They found us our guide, Voath, who is a temple don — personable, reliable, who knows everything and let us set our own pace. All in all, Sala provided the perfect base for an exploration of one of the wonders of the world.

Beautiful sanctuary with every detail considered from a cool drink delivered pool side to your bed being turned down every night.

The staff and owners are wonderful, every bungalow is unique with plenty of room and tastefully decorated complete with air con, mosquito net and a big balcony.

Highlights were a delicious breakfast each morning, the saltwater pool and the Khmer cooking class

Can’t really fault Sala Lodges but would recommend avoiding coming at the height of the dry season when it is incredibly hot all day, every day.

Sala Lodges is a must do if you are traveling to Siem Reap. The unique lodges are rustic and wonderful but have all the modern amenities. The hotel manager/owner is a delight. We had several friendly conversations with him about the property. His (and his wife’s) vision and execution for Sala Lodges is impeccable. The staff is extremely friendly. The service was among the best I ever experienced. The daily breakfast juice based on the color of the day was creative and tasty. Although the restaurant food was higher priced than elsewhere the quality, service, convenience made it worth the extra cost.

I rated the Sala Lodges at 4 3/4 STARS. Just below 5 STARS only because the noice from neighbors can go into the night. But this did not cause us to lose any sleep. And… The pillows were a little hard. After more than a 24 hour (5 flights) trip from Chicago a soft pillow would have been welcomed.

The bottom line… You need to try out this place. It is truly unique and wonderful.

Thank you for the "delight" and since you came at Sala Lodges we have bought a complete new set of pillows which are almost as "squashy" as you asked for when your were here. Related to the noise it is really a problem that Cambodia as a country has to tackel. I am personally involved since a few weeks with the authorities to enforce the application of an existing law related to permitted decibel level. at night the level of decibels allowed in residential area is 45 Dcbl and I measured up to 90 and even 115 near the disco and bars in town. So it is a public health issue even in the remote country sided of Cambodia and other countries in south east Asia. Anyway can only hope that this will soon be from the past as the solution is pretty simple just lower the volume !!! We hope to see you again in beautiful Siem Reap with kind regards Arne Lugeon

Hi, what style are the electrical outlets?
Answer from Simone
Siem Reap, Cambodia25 contributions
Thank you Amy for your question, For Cambodia there are three associated plug types, A, C and G. Plug type A is the plug which has two flat parallel pins, plug type C is the plug which has two round pins and plug type G is the plug with three rectangular pins, in a triangular pattern. Cambodia operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz. Even if a bit complicated, we have adaptors at disposal at Sala Lodges. Looking forward to welcome you at Sala Lodges.
