    A taste of Cambodia
This was our third times staying at The Purple Mangosteen. Everything is at your door step as well as having a fantastic restaurant & roof top bar onsite, This is a architecturally designed boutique Small Hotel .There are a range of room sizes to suit singles through to groups of 4 staying together. The rooms are light filled , cooling and calming .And are an oasis after a day in the sun at Angkor wat. This is a local family business which offers you a unique cosmopolitan experience in the heart of Seim reaps ,Old City. We will be returning again. Reviewed January 30, 2017

    Unbelievable .. location & price
It's hard for me to put 5 points for any hotel especially this one. It's perfect and match my criteria in selecting a hotel: Location & Price There's a moment when I think I shouldn't add a good review for this hotel and save it for my next trip - or it would be full booking. However, I decide to write it here. Location - In a small lane, with restaurant downstairs, this hotel is just few steps away from pub street, move your body a bit further then it's old market -- all withing walking distance. Food - they are all around with plenty of choices from street food to good restaurant. You can also try roof top bar which starts in the evening till late night. Price - I've paid at USD 30 and got a medium size room with big bathroom, plus a good and convenient location. Room - There're stain and dirt in my rooms but it's common for small hotels in Cambodia & SEA. Overall cleanliness is still acceptable. Hair dryer is provided. No toothbrush. Big desk. STAFFS - MOST FRIENDLY EVER, even better than 5-star hotel in the mid of London I just stayed few months ago. And this is the only reason I put 5 points here on Tripadvisor. The young man (thin) speaks English fluently, and full of service mind. Cons: * Noise & crazy music from pub street would disturb you the whole night until 3-4AM. Be careful with this. If you are a hard sleeper, AVOID this hotel. * Stairs - Circular stairs are VERY NOT COMFORTABLE for carrying big suitcase up. And that's the only way you can climb to upper floor.

    Lovely Lunch
We didn't stay at The Purple Mangosteen, but did enjoy lunch here. We found them when wandering around shopping and we're really glad we decided to stop. We had a wonderful green mango salad with shrimp and smoked fish and rice paper rolls. Everything was fresh, delicious and the flavours were perfectly balanced. A really delicious light lunch with wonderful service and icy cold drinks. Definitely worth a try. Especially if you're like us and you don't like the crappy Pub Street eateries. :)

We spent 6 days here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Twins, Jamie & Marlee are the well spoken English owners, whose pomme humour was a comedic welcome-mat to their somewhat Fawlty Towers Hotel; in the best way possible. When we needed room relocation, this was done efficiently & effortlessly. And in the wee hours of our first morning here, an emergency allergic reaction, was met with a very gentle, reassuring Jamie, offering the best assistance/advice to waivering fear - to this we were most grateful. Their team is helpful, humble and happy. Their welcome drinks are only surpassed by their superb Lemongrass Mojito (even if you don't stay here, stop in for one or three😍). ✔ Rooms are generous, with the exact amount of space, storage & bedding needed. ✔ Shower space is large, even if the water is a little cooler than warm. ✔ We had a jug provided for tea and a fridge filled with their own stock or ready for your own 'whatevers'. ✔ Perfectly located if nightlife, city centre & Night/Old Markets are your thing. Pub St is literally 60 seconds away, The Night Market, 40 seconds & Old Market, 50 seconds walk. ✔ Their restaurant is staffed by local Khmer, so you can guarantee authentic food. Otherwise there a many options literally outside the doorstep. ✔ Jamie & Marlee have an amazing well sourced/networked team, who will give you the best and safest Tuk Tuk drivers/tours and up-to-date advice available. ✔ Tuk Tuk/Tour Guide. As above, but we would highly recommend Sing Visa (WhatsApp +85512855006). He was friendly, knowledgeable, patient & generous. He took us to his local market & eating hangouts; which was exactly what we wanted. N.B: ❓ If you're adverse to music noise in the wee hours, then Pub St/City Centre is not for you.

We stumbled across the sky bar at the top of the restaurant and were immediately welcomed by owners Marley and Jeffery. They were extremely accomodating and friendly. We enjoyed chatting to them about their new venture and ended up staying for much longer than planned. Would highly recommend visiting! Thanks again!

I’ve not stayed here so I won’t comment on the noise, but it’s right near pub street so your going to get noise! Anyway, have a cocktail or 3 on the rooftop bar. I’ve had the place to myself for 3 days now. 2:1 cocktails, great views, above the noise I love chilling up here. Staff make Killer Long Island Ice Tea’s too One of the better spots in SR

We didn't stay here but chose to eat at the restaurant as the menu looked interesting. We had a very good cocktails - lemongrass mojito and mango margarita before the meal. The fish was perfectly cooked and was very tasty and my daughter enjoyed her chicken and noodles. The final bill was good as they had 2 for 1 on cocktails and 10% off for eating early.

Hotel is located in a very good area. One of the alleyways that leads you directly to entrance of the Night Walking Street or Pub Street. The room we got is in such an awkward design. The shower is separated from the bed by a wall; and the a/c faces directly the shower. The room is very hot when you come back from an outing. So imagine, you come back to the room, turn up the a/c....take a shower and get goosebump because of the a/c. Bed and pillow was very uncomfortable and we both got a back & neck ache. There is a bar/club behind the hotel building, so you can't sleep in the middle of the night with the loud music and banging (esp on the weekends). Also the front of the hotel where the alley way is...is prone to ppl hanging out late in the middle of the night till the early morning. On our first night (weekday), we couldn't sleep well because of the loud chattering/shouting that went on until 4am. Then our next consecutive nights (weekends), we were massacred by the loud music from the bar. Thats what you get for booking a budget hotel in the heart of busy area. We asked for breakfast take out from the hotel (as we were going for the early morning tour to Angkor), it was a sad sight. 2 slices of un-toasted bread (fyi, toast to them meant slices of bread. Not “toasted” bread), jam, a few fries and a banana. We asked for a simple hot meal like friend rice (which is on their breakfast menu) and they flat out said no hot meals for take out, only toast). Hotel itself is quite dusty and not that clean. When we were dining at the restaurant, everything on the table was covered in dust so please wipe down before the food arrive. We stayed there for 4 nights…on our last 2 nights….our room was no longer made up by housekeeping. We asked the staff whether did they forget our room, and they replied “but you’re checking out soon so no need”. There is no elevator in the hotel. You need to carry your luggage on a flight of circular stairs which can be difficult if you have a heavy/big luggage. Rooms are only located 2nd floor above (1st floor is the kitchen).

First of all let me say the young lady who you have on reception/front of house, is an asset to your company, very helpful/pleasant and can not do enough for guest. Now down to the essentials. Room.. very clean and well serviced. Bed..comfortable, some bedding thread bare. Bathroom/shower, very clean shower always hot and powerful, towels changed daily. Food...breakfast is good, restaurant food is very good and reaonablly priced. Location... Now here is were it could let it self down, if you are looking for a party location this hotel is ideally placed right in the centre with pub street just around the corner, and many restaurants bars in the immediate vicinity, YOU WILL NOT BE SLEEPING BEFORE 4AM UNLESS EAR PROTECTION IS USED. but if thats your thing then you are in for a great stay. This would have been a 5/5 but for the one night I needed to sleep early. And again give the young lady a pay rise she deserves it.

If you need to sleep don't book this hotel. There is a constant notice of banging and clattering within the hotel. There will be noise till early hours of the morning coming from the pubs and clubs in the area. The rooms are pleasant enough for the amount you are paying
