Hariralaya is a magical place! Whether you are new to yoga or want to get deeper in your practice, here you will find what you are looking for. Authentic, genuine and simple. The simplicity I found in everything at Hariralaya was just so liberating. The location is beautiful and quiet with an amazing garden. Yoga and meditation classes are great. The food is delicious and healthy, including fantastic vegan and gf cakes and ice-cream. Rooms and shared areas are clean and well-kept. Great library. Professional massage therapists. Thank you Joel, Richie, Jamie and all the Khmer staff for holding this safe space for us. PS: I'm super grateful for the gift package I received after my stay, including "Hariharalaya Cookbook" and a "Spiritual Library" of over 100 ebooks. :)
After several months of being " stuck" in Kampot, I could feel my mind, body, and soul longing after something different. Hariharalaya was just the place for that. They provide a heavy schedule of yoga, mediation and breathing exercises, accompanied by fitness classes and lots of time for one to develop and start experimenting with their own practice. Hariharalaya is located in nature, quite close to a (still very) traditional Khmer village. It is quiet and serene. Its a great place to take a moment to come back to yourself and catch a break from the busy, heavily technology addicted world we live in. P.S. The food is all vegan and gluten-free as well as very tasty.
I am a 200HR Registered Hatha Yoga teacher. I have been practicing yoga for 20 years, and teaching yoga and meditation for 2 years. This is the place that BUSTED my heart wide open. It broke me by showing me my relentless pursuit of self-criticism and judgement. By judging others (effectively ourselves), we make them wrong and ourselves right. Thank you Jamie Haffey, for speaking directly to me. Your wisdom is innate. Then, if you make YOURSELF wrong AND right- you are left in a state of complete internal conflict. None of us are wrong or right- we are all just doing the best with what we have- we are different AND we are ONE. NO separation, only Unity. Wow. Thank you thank you thank you. For showing me how I was treating me because I loved YOU too much to handle my own criticism of you, Ricardo Dunero. Sounds ugly because it is. Forgive me. Thank you. I love you. I’m sorry. You are so gifted. You helped me transform. Joel Altman, thank you for putting so eloquently into words and for teaching yogis the truth that they need nothing more than to be alive to be able to practice yoga and that the true purpose of all of this is to be able to sit with yourself, acknowledge what comes up, and love all parts of yourself- not just the ones that are easy, especially when it is uncomfortable. Rakhee Khan, thank you for seamlessly facilitating everything, particularly during storms. Joel, if you could please hug the massage therapist for me- I am working on my memory of and pronunciation of Khmer names, so I don’t know it- she is a miracle worker and I am the pickiest massage client in the world. Everyone, I highly recommend Hariharalaya if you are in Siem Reap, or anywhere in Cambodia. This is NOT just a place to stay; it is a complete journey into yourself. It will change your life. The food is incredible, the place is magic, the people are miracle workers. As me anything, but go, go, you have to go.…
I really recommend this place to everyone. No one excluded. I thought before to know exactly what I like about yoga, but this concept lets me see everything from a new and different point of view. I love the food, the concept, the structures and thank Joel from the bottom of my heart for creating this place. They give everyone the space to heal and grow. I would recommend to stay longer, because you really go further in your development every week. I've been here for 3 weeks now, I have 2 more weeks to go and I'm not sure I will stay even longer.
Very open and warm community. It’s a center that welcomes people at all levels — and especially for people unfamiliar with yoga’s or meditation. The center focuses on stillness. Joel, the center’s founder, is a shining light and the other teachers each have their styles and complement Joel’s approach. The classes focus on teaching you practices that you can do on your own at home, which I found helpful. I had a lovely stay of one week, and will go back to my life and work feeling recharged.
