We stayed for 4 nights at Puka Killa B&B. Marco & Tatiana have only had the B&B since December 2013. We had the feeling that they had not had that many guests thus far. We had to send them our previous correspondence with Victor & Laura, as they had no record of it. They have a beautiful home. The rooms are spacious. Ours and our friends' rooms both had balconies overlooking the city. I had a desk to work at and a good internet connection. The bed was very comfortable. Puka Killa is on the higher elevations of the north side of Cochabamba, just at the edge of the city, on a gravel road. However, the drive to Lake Alalay, a nice lake right in the city, good for birding, was only 15 minutes. Breakfast is included. Marco & Tatiana will also prepare other meals on request and the prices are reasonable. They are both very limited in English. Happily our holiday companions were fluent in Spanish. Marco arranged a one day trip for us to Villa Tunari. Our driver, Victor, was a nice man and a very good driver, but had not done any research, so as to know where to take us. We had mentioned to Marco that we wanted to see birds, but Victor took us to a park that featured monkeys and in which we would have had to put our cameras and binoculars in a locker to go on the trail. Naturally that did not suit us. So Victor tried to find out if there were any other places that he could take us to instead. Happily, he did find out about Carrasco National Park. We had a very nice time there and saw an umbrella bird for our very first time, also oilbirds for our first time. In passing, I might mention that the town of Villa Tunari would like to promote itself as a good tourist destination, but when we arrived at 8:30 AM, we could not find any establishment that would serve us breakfast, and the only washrooms were public washrooms that left a lot to be desired. However, we did find a very nice restaurant for lunch (San Silvestre). As the only photos posted on Tripadvisor for this site are management photos, I have included a few, and as some other tourists might also be birders like us, I have posted a few photos from Lake Alalay.

Went for the weekend and felt right at home, the place was very cosy and relaxing and without no doubt had a great view of the city. The owners where very helpful and kind. I would definitely come back on my next visit to Cochabamba and recommend it.

It was difficult for me to decide how to rate the place, but since I don't think it deserves the 5 stars it currently has, I opted for a 3, which I mean more as "Good" than "Average." It is difficult to find satisfactory accommodation in Cochabamba, so you'll have to decide if this place will work for you or not. First, it is 20 minutes North of downtown in a trufi, which is fine if you leave in the morning and come back in the evening, but gets annoying if you're a tourist. Also know that the area isn't particularly safe at night, and is devoid of any restaurants or other conveniences. You'd think that being so far away, the place would be quiet, but that's counting without the concert of dog barks every night, and the parties at the week-end. You'll hear it all. When it comes to service, it was uneven. Laura, the wife, barely said hi to me when I first came in. You may have to wait on your breakfast, to the point when I started boiling my own water for tea a couple of times. The coffee may be cold or microwaved, the toast may be dried out and cold too. You'll have to fend the cat off the table when you eat--he's persistent. The owners, who are from Italy and relatively new in town, are limited in their ability to advise on how to get anywhere, including the nearest supermarket. Then I learned that they had just sold the business, and it seems to me like they have already mentally checked out. On the plus side, you do get breakfast, hot water all day, free laundry, wi-fi, a very comfortable and modern home to stay in, use of the kitchen and living room if you want to watch TV (large selection of cable including channels in English, French, Italian, and some Asian languages I'm not familiar with). I never had a doubt about cleanliness either. All for a relatively low price.

We stayed at Puka Killa B&B for just over a week. We were made to feel very welcome by Victor & Laura, and were given plenty of information about places to see in the surrounding area. Our double bedroom was very spacious and comfortable and had a fantastic view over the city. The hotel is about the same height as the Cristo statue, but on a different hill overlooking the city. Breakfast was great. We had access to our own fridge downstairs as well, if we wanted to keep snacks etc; and we were able to do laundry any time. There's a nice patio and garden to hang out in as well. The neighbourhood is quiet, and it was about 15 minutes in a taxi to the city centre or to the airport. It was a relaxing stay and we felt like we were in a family apartment, rather than a hotel. We would stay again.

I stayed at the Puke Killa B&B for 10 weeks from May-August 2012. We rented the entire downstairs apartment, complete with our own kitchen. I would highly recommend this bed and breakfast for anyone staying in Cochabamba due to the impeccable accommodations, low price, and hospitality of Victor and Laura. We were able to do our own laundry here and cook (with the provided cookware). The house comes with a security system and alarm. The house was cleaned and our sheets were washed for us on a regular basis. Although slightly out of the city center, the both the bus and trufi come within a three minute walk of the house. You really won't be able to find these services at this price anywhere else. I would definitely stay at this beautiful bed and breakfast again!
