Detailed Reviews
This a review of both the motel and the restaurant. We stayed here for one night in February 2021, planning to ski Discovery the next day. The motel room is a throwback, with modest fixtures in the bathroom. However, the room was perfectly clean, the rustic furniture was nice, and the little kitchenette area in the back was a bonus. Only real complaint about the lodging: next time I will bring a snow shovel to get into the room. No one had shoveled, and we had to climb over a snow drift to find the door. About the restaurant, where we ate for dinner and breakfast: food was good (especially breakfast), and our servers took our orders and brought beverages promptly. However, the kitchen was slow, about 45 minutes each time even though the restaurant was not busy. This was especially annoying in the morning, when we were trying to get to the ski mountain. Also, virtually no one (including staff) were wearing masks, or even pretending to make an effort. Still, I would stay here again when skiing Discovery (there are not a lot of options).

With a name like Seven Gables Resort, we were expecting maybe something quaint, maybe something Victorian, maybe some resort features. We were very surprised to discover a yellowish brown varnished wood building with some small rooms right beside it overlooking the black top/gravel parking lot. Granted, it is right across from Georgetown Lake, which is beautiful with great fishing.
We walked into the restaurant Saturday afternoon. There is a small "casino" (typical of Montana, not Nevada). The rug was beer stained, patched together and filthy. There were, what I would assume to be "locals" up at the bar watching the game. A couple of people were seated at tables. One of the gals had a hamburger that looked really good.
We sat ourselves and after 10 minutes of waiting, and no servers or host in view, we grabbed a couple menus off the bar. Another couple came in and about 5 minutes later a gal came to hand them menus and take their drink order. Then she came over to ask what we would like to drink. We inquired about gluten free options and she replied "absolutely nothing. You could have the salad bar but all the dressings have gluten." So, we chose to leave.

Didn't have a very good experience here. The place is really run down. It's like they haven't do anything to the place since it was built. Yes, it's one of the closest places to Discovery, but that's about it. You'd be better off staying in Anaconda.

The staff know they have a water problem in the rooms and will still rent the rooms. Plus, no internet in the rooms. The water in our sink and shower came out as a dribble then would stop completely. The sides of the bed between the mattress and frame was filled with hair and other disgusting things, the stench from the 4 overflowing commercial sized garbage bins outside our room was so overpowering you had to hold your breathe the 10 steps from the car to door of the room, the TV screen was cracked and only the bottom half worked, my bathtowel had a hole the size of a dinner plate. We couldn't open the window of the screen door because of the garbage smell and flies, there wasn't a screen. The bathroom and back window did not have locks or screens. We wouldn't eat in the restaurant because the overflowing garbage bins were right in front of the open kitchen door open without a screen and the flies and the dog went in and out. We stayed here July 25 and we are still waiting for the promised refund. The health and tourism authorities should be alerted.

I wish I could leave ratings for the Hotel and Cafe separate as they probably would be different.
Hotel: The room was very clean which was great and the price isn't bad. But the walls were so thin, we could hear whole conversations, even them shuffling decks of cards! Not too mention other things you hear at night in hotels... Lots of traffic from the bar in and out til 2am and after. I suppose if you drank all night in the bar, most things wouldn't be noticeable. No air conditioning and it was the hottest week of the entire year. No fans either. The windows either had no screens or ripped screens. With the pond next door we didn't want to risk all the bugs coming in. Old tv, residential doors, sinks, toilet, rugs in bathroom. We've stayed in loads of MT hunting cabins which are pretty similar to this, outdated doesn't bother us. But the one thing we couldn't overlook was it was literally the most uncomfortable hard bed we have ever slept on. We got no sleep with all the noise and the bad bed.
Cafe: They were pretty busy, but we had no where to go that night, so we didn't care if we had to wait. The waiter told us it would be 30-45 minutes before they could even start our ticket. We told him, no biggie we weren't in any hurry. Got word that they had to change our order due to shortage, also not a problem. Got the food, pretty good, not greasy which was great. But $43 for 2 shrimp baskets with tots/garlic bread and ice tea, he forgot our salads, seems a bit high. No air con in here either, all the doors open, made for a very hot room, full of people and loads of flies. But the best part was our waiter, what a great kid! Super attentive, friendly and really hustled. Noticed the young bus boy was the same. We gave him a pretty good tip as he most certainly earned it.
We would probably come back to eat (in the Fall or Winter when it was cooler) but won't stay at the hotel again.

After driving 7 hrs to get there we checked in at the bar where we were told to go. I had made the reservation on the 15th of July an our stay date was the 29th. So we go to the bar and fill out all the paperwork, I tried to show them my res on my phone but they paid no attention to that. Anyway we picked up our key at about 7pm Montana time and decided to go to the family bbq and eat. After eating and visiting we went back to the motel and I got the key and opened up the door to see another family in my room. The father stood up and said oh they screwed your room up to? So I went back to the bar and the guy behind the bar can’t remember his name but I said hey the room you gave me has a family in it, he looked at me and said you have to be kidding , I said no I’m not. Then he said well I think six is open let’s go see so off we went. He had the master key and it would not unlock the room. He went back to the bar and got an owner he came out an I said well what are you going to do for us I have prepaid for 2 nights. He told me he would go in the back window of 6 and open it up. Well ah he was doing that a truck pulled in and a guy got out and went to the room with a key. So now they have no rooms and the guy from my original room that I walked in on came out and told me they sold hi the room at three pm cause I was not there, well hello that’s when check I starts not ends. Anyway I asked again what they would do for me I said I think that there is a room in town but it’s 248 a night he said I’ll give you a hundred towards it, no thanks. He said where else do you have to go? I said nowhere cause the town is booked out this weekend. He was not willing to call any place for me or help in anyway. So I said we will figure out tonight but I want a total refund an you must comp me Saturday night. He said ok. Then the bartender looked at his boss and said we are full for tomorrow night. I looked at him and said really well one of the rooms is mine cause I booked for two nights. Came back Sat afternoon and got the key and some guy across the bar kept telling us it was a computer problem. Anyway got the room and the bathroom had a tiny toilet and the seat Wes cracked never bothered to fix or replace it an I kept gettin my leg skin stuck in the crack. Anyway the bottom line is they get a zero from me and I will be telling everybody I know the story. Will never be back again.

DON’T EAT HERE!
Ate lunch there after fishing. I will say that I have had reasonable experiences in the past but this time it made my top 10 on one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. When we walked in, I felt like the waitperson knew that we were not from the area and immediately chose to treat us badly. It took forever to get menus and a beer. When we ordered, my father in law - who does live in the area - asked about condiments; she became very disgusted and told him “here are your options of condiments” and slid over a basket full of mayo and catsup packets”. They were out of over half the items on the menu....I decided on the Philly cheesesteak. When we finally got it, the burger was cooked to death, near charcoal. The 4 thin slices of meat on my sandwich was rancid! It took me 10 minutes to get her over to the table to tell her. Understanding that this can happen occasionally, I nicely told her of the problem. “Sorry honey I’ll take it off your bill”. She brought the bill and wouldn’t even look at us, much less return to the table to so we could pay the bill!
Her interactions with other customers that clearly were not local was the same as what we experienced.
The lakeside (formerly Brown Derby) is under new mgt. and is very good. I’d advise going there instead.

Not at all as what was stated. When we got to the motel the first thing was the concrete steps to the room were crumbling and falling apart making it difficult to enter. The hot water didn't work, beds noisy and extremely uncomfortable. Didn't sleep under sheets as it didn't appear clean at all! There was a pile of sawdust between the vanity and shower that appeared like something may have nawed its way out or into. We were supposed to have adjoining rooms, but we were adjoined with strangers. Very noisy
Screen door had the screen hanging off of the door and we actually put a chair in front of the door as the lock was very suspicious!

DIRTY Room & may just drive home. We just needed a simple clean place to crash for a one night outing, Unfortunately this is not the place. There was actually dirt & pebbles in our bed sheets when we pulled back bed spread. Pillows are flat foam, the Place is covered in thick dust, none of the windows open and it’s 80 degrees out & the screen in the door is ripped out, blinds are broken and there no window covering on the others. The pillows are brown & gross under the pillow case. Gonna be a long night, or maybe a very short one. Such a bummer
