My wife and I booked the Strandhotel Margaretha as a package holiday through TUI in the UK, we paid a little extra for a front lakeside view room and were not disappointed. The room was spacious, recently refurbished with large comfortable bed and new bathroom with over bath shower, all very clean and fresh. We had booked a dinner, bed and breakfast package and again were very impressed the the amount and quality of the food served. The staff also deserve a mention as we found them all to be extremely friendly and professional, always willing to go the extra and gave good recommendations on the food and where to visit in the local region. There is a large lakeside area opposite the hotel with many beds, stand up paddle boards, rowing boats and inflatables all free to use in the surprisingly warm lake. The only thing I would like to see added to the hotel is air conditioning to the bedrooms as the room did get extremely warm at times. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we will be looking at booking again

We stayed three nights at this hotel on our first visit to Salzkammergut. The hotel has a nice location, a short walking distance from the village, and very near the funicular train to go up the mountain and a stop of the boats that cross the lake. Our room was small but had a nice balcony and view to the lake. The breakfast is acceptable (choice and quality) for the price, but the buffet is too small for the number of people. You sometimes have to “queue” to get what you want from the buffet. This is compensated by the large and beautiful terrace with view on the lake where you eat your breakfast. We found the restaurant really good and were surprised diners were only hotel guests as the price quality is very competitive with other places in the village (and the terrace makes the experience nice). The “beach” on the other side of the street was never overcrowded and has some SUPs for the guests. A less positive point is the parking which is too small when the hotel is full. They reimburse if you have to park in the nearby public parking, but we found the parking experience stressing, with guests parking outside the lines or taking two places instead of one for their expensive car. There is a charging station which you can reserve and costs a forfeit of 20 euro for the day.

We loved our stay here. The location is perfect, easy walking distance into town but in a quiet location on the lake. We stayed in two rooms over our stay, thanks to a complimentary upgrade, and whilst perhaps a little tired both were nicely decorated and very comfortable. The communal areas are stylish and comfortable, and the terrace has wonderful views over the lake. Breakfast offered a good range of options. The restaurant was very good for both lunch and dinner, although I would recommended exploring the options in town as well. Whilst the hotel has a private beach on the lake, it is across the road and has no facilities. However this wasn't a big inconvenience and seems quite usual. By and large the staff were very friendly and helpful, forgiving our almost non-existent German! We'd definitely recommend staying here and would be happy to return.

My room was shabby with dull features especially the large framed portrait of people from a past era hung askew and adorned with such an accumulation of dust and cobwebs of which one imagined it would be possible to cultivate vegetation in it. A small table was provided with chairs but to in order to stabilise it from wobbling all over we had to improvise with cardboard jammed around it. A redeeming feature was the view of the lake and a small balcony. The staff were found by many guests as well as us to be of a very dour and dull nature, like the tired and worn hotel. When simple requests were asked we were looked upon as if it was an intrusion. As a couple of experienced travellers to Austria for over twenty years and have a decent command of speaking and understanding German we are very familiar with the culture of Austrians and usually have respect for them but not in this case. The owner who is an aficionado of jazz 'music'? has a penchant for having it piped throughout the hotel from breakfast to dinner and all evening. Despite requests from a number of guests to have a different genre/selection of music played instead of the same endless, monotonous repeated jazz numbers these went ignored. Hence after dinner many took their leave and went out.

This is a hotel I would love to return to because of the wonderful room and location. It is family owned, updated, and we thought the staff was very professional and welcoming. There is a dock in front on the lake, so swimming in the glacier lake was a blast (it was over 90 degrees-unseasonably warm). We also enjoyed the restaurant with a fabulous view! My husband was able to mountain climb nearby on Schafsberg. Wolfgangsee is a gorgeous lake with a charming town. We had the best time and are thrilled we extended our stay by one night.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay here. What a beautiful hotel. Location stunning overlooking the lake. Breakfasts lovely plenty of choices. Our room was gorgeous. The only negative about the room was..... they provide a kettle with satchets of coffee/cream(powdered)also teabags. However their was no spoon or sugar provided also we drink black coffee so was unable to take advantage of this.. we were also disappointed on our first 2 nights to see the bar closing very early 9.30 pm. Our last night was different as was singers on so it did stay open later. Saying this this has not put us off revisiting in the future. St Wolfgang is absolutely stunning. Loved the free bikes, sunbeds rowing boat and paddle boards too. Well worth a visit

Stayed here for a week in June. Had a side view of the lake which was wonderful. Our room was great, very comfortable, clean and beautifully decorated and furnished. Had breakfast and dinner on the terrace. Food was good, there was a great buffet breakfast and plenty to eat at dinner. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Garden, pier and sunbeds were great, good to relax there. Oh, and if you like a cuppa we had a kettle and cups in our room they were in the wardrobe. A nice touch.

Very nice location, just across the small road there is a private beach on the lake. Lovely views from the terrace where meals can be eaten if the weather permits. We had wonderful weather and ate all our meals outside. Such a pity that the rooms don’t have air conditioning especially at the high summer temperatures of the last weeks. Possibly not necessary most of the time in Austria. The hotel has a great chef whose food on the á la carte and for the guests enjoying half board, was very good. 10 minutes walk to the village is very pleasant and the ferry boat leaves from a jetty just 5 minutes from the hotel. Good beds but the pillows cold be better. Very enjoyable stay there.

My husband and I stayed at the Strandhotel Margaretha for 2 weeks from 1 June 2019. This is a 4 star rated hotel and this is certainly justified, just a 30 minute stroll into the centre of St Wolfgang. All of the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Food was excellent with plenty of choice for breakfast and dinner (most allergies were shown on the menu) also complimentary tea and cake in the afternoon which was very welcome. Our room (314) was spotlessly clean, towels changed every day and bed linen more than once a week. Bath robes were provided and plenty of wardrobe space also a small seating area and balcony with a partial view of the lake. There were plenty of sun loungers on the bathing area opposite the hotel. We booked through Inghams and were certainly glad we did, our Rep Stephen was a pleasant and helpful young man who spoke perfect German, nothing was too much trouble. If we were to go to St Wolfgang again would definitely stay in this hotel. Wonderful.

Stayed here for a week in June. Great location, lovely clean room, and brilliant view from the balcony. We stayed half-board and the food (five courses most nights) was excellent every night. Good choice at breakfast and all the staff were helpful, happy and good at their jobs. Would definitely stay again.
