Hotel's Favorite
I am writing to share a positive experience I had with one of your staff members, Mark Sawdon. Upon departure from the hotel on August 4th, I mistakenly left behind a bag of clothes. When I called the hotel, I spoke with Mark and advised I may have left it in the room. Late that afternoon, Mark called me back to let me know that he checked the room but did not find it. I asked him to check the other rooms we had reserved as well, and the bag was not in either of the other rooms.
Mark mentioned housekeeping sometimes takes left items and leaves them on their carts, returning them to lost and found the next day. Mark did not wait for the team to arrive in the morning, he went and checked each cart, and called me back again advising the bag was not there.
There was a terrible rainstorm the night of our stay. It continued to rain hard as we were leaving the hotel the next morning. We had to move the car from where we started to load our luggage because there was a considerable amount of mud between the sidewalk and our parking spot, due to the construction. Spit balling, I called Mark back to let him know it was possible we left the bag outside on the sidewalk. He advised it had continued to rain and agreed to walk the perimeter of the property to look for it. He also said in a final effort he would check the dumpster; in the event someone had thrown it away.
Mark called me back about an hour later to tell me that he found my bag on the sidewalk. It was full of water, so my clothes were soaking wet and dirty. There was a shirt in the bag that has significant sentimental value. Its almost 50 years old and is one of my favorite party shirts.
I live out of state and was not planning to be back in Auburn Hills anytime soon, so I offered to give him my credit card info, hoping he could ship it to me. Mark said he would wash and dry my dirty wet clothes and then reach out to discuss shipping. He said that if he could not use the hotel facilities to wash them, he would take them home to do it. He went as far as to inquire about washing instructions, which was key because the sentimental shirt is rayon and can’t be dried.
Within a few days, I received a Fedex box with all my clean and dry clothes and shoes.
Most people would have given up or blown me off after checking the room. Most people would have avoided my calls. Most people would have never agreed to check outside the hotel and the dumpster. Most people would not have been timely in calling/emailing me with updates. Mark Sawdon is a special soul. I can only believe the universe wanted me to have my shirt back and connected me with Mark to make it happen.
I am grateful my path has crossed with his. It is people like Mark who possess dedication to service, empathy and kindness that differentiate themselves from others in the service industry. You cannot train people to become Mark Sawdon’s. The next time I am within 100 miles of Auburn Hills, I will make a point of meeting him in person.

Hi Phil, Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to share such an amazing story! I have worked in the hotel industry for some time and this is truly the best review and most heartfelt review I have had the pleasure of reading and sharing with our team. I am so glad that Mark was able to help reunite you with such an important and sentimental item. We always knew Mark was amazing and are so happy to hear when our guests think so too. We hope we look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel one day. Melissa

Decided to try this location for a change. Out of the three Sonesta locations that are oddly real close in this town this one is the nicest. Plus the staff was super helpful compared to other locations. Jayda was at the front desk when I checked in and she was super helpful with making sure I had everything I needed. If they had a Jayda for the front desk at each location they would be onto something.

Man. The Detroit area hotels, just a little further south, could all learn a lesson or two, or ten, from this place. Spotless rooms, spotless hallways, spotless lobby and sitting areas. Very comfortable beds, and so nice and quiet. And even better... not a whiff of pot anywhere. I have stayed in so many large-chain biz hotels all around Detroit for work, and every one of them reeks of pot. So friggin gross. This place is WELL worth the drive north and just dealing with a longer commute in the morning to get to where I need to be.

I am not sure how this is rated so high. They charged you for parking even though it's not in a city or crowded area. Breakfast was not included and coffee was $3 in the lobby. I have never seen a hotel that did not offer coffee. The room was fine but smaller than I expected. The couch was really dirty so we did not sit on it. There is Sonesta select and Sonesta suites very near one another. Be careful. They had a gym but seems to have missing dumbbells. People are probably stealing them and nobody's paying attention. Overall it's a low class hotel that should not be rated so high. I found my door would not shut on its own and latch. We came back from getting dinner and my door was cracked. Somehow the deadbolt kept popping out and not going back in when you open the door. It would stop it from closing.

Everything was very good. It was a clean hotel with good facilities and very friendly staff. Rooms were very nice. Ours opened up onto a grass courtyard. Seating areas were great in the courtyard. Could sit and chat with friends while kids swam in pool. Excellent value for money. Highly recommend.

I stayed here for 3 nights, it was a last minute thing, after the nightmare that is the Baymont across the parking lot. Rooms were clean, staff was great, the only thing that I could possibly find fault with is the lack of a breakfast buffet. Other than that, it was an amazing stay!

Well, I am back to this hotel. Yes, I like it. This time I would like to highlight their booking process efficiency and share with you the great experience I had with this nice app Marriott developed for mobile phones (I tested both, the iOS and Android versions). I went through the reservation routines, added some specific requests (including early checkin) and confirmed. Some update messages were sent by email (including the check-in option). When I arrived at the hotel my keys were waiting for me at the front desk!
Congratulations Marriott, that was kind!

Stayed there for the first time with a family member last night (mini trip to Auburn hills/Great lakes crossing). Got checked in by Nikki. Check in was friendly & efficient. Lobby is new, nice convenient market, business center, bistro where we had breakfast. Paid around $10 for oatmeal (fancy), banana, Starbucks vanilla latte & coffee. Everything was delicious. Hot tub was around 101-102°, had a very nice, relaxing experience there. Room had a nice layout, nicely appointed and had "that upscale Marriott's feel" Shower was so so nice, plenty of hot water, great water pressure. Bed was super comfortable, if I would need a new bed, I would check if they sell them, instead of going to the furniture store, as it was super, super comfortable. Wi FI was very strong. I only have one complaint during this stay. Heat in the room did not work. I called the front desk, and the staff person, Al, came to the room literary in two minutes. He did fix the heat, but something still was not right. Al was very, very helpful, nice, friendly, and professional. He talked to Josh, the front desk clerk, and we were moved to another room, where everything was in order. Josh was also nice about it, but I just feel that we should've been compensated in some way for the inconvenience, like maybe an offer for a free breakfast in the morning, or something along that line. I am still giving an excellent rating, since it is a very nice hotel, and everything, including customer service, does meet Marriott's standards. I would stay at this hotel again and would definitely recommend it.

I am a Marriott fan who does not like surprises, mainly if they are bad ones. That is the reason why I choose Marriott. You know what to expect and - the best of it - that is what you get: a nice hotel, comfortable, good coffee in the mornings (this particular one serves Starbucks coffee), honest service and employees kindness! Congratulations Marriott team!!!

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the rooms were updated .
My husband and I came down state to go to the DTE theater to see Bob Seger. The one thing that I really liked about this room is it was an upgrade and there's a separate living room and bedroom.also, what's really nice is that there are two TVs and the curtains pull so it's really dark in the room.
The only negatives to staying here was that the bed was extremely uncomfortable. Not a lot of support and in the morning when I went to get my coffee the coffee pot wouldn't work. I had to go down to the front desk to let them know. They brought back another coffee pot and I showed the woman what I did and it didn't work for her as well. That was somewhat frustrating. However, I would have to say that they were kind enough to buy me a couple Starbucks coffee's. Overall really happy and we would stay here again.

Yes, the room had an ironing board and iron. However, as I stated in my review, there are better places to stay nearby at lower rates and those places include breakfast - the Courtyard does not include breakfast.
Yes. Both are available.
I am glad it helped! I too contacted corporate and they sent me a nasty gram asking me where I saw they had advertised a shuttle. I quickly copied a screen shot from hotels-Com and Travelocity showing the shuttle. They sent me a reply saying - sorry, hope you come back
soon. What the heck? I have traveled all over the world and never have I been this mad and honestly it was a bit scary. Nice to know my venting did someone some good.
