Saravilla, circa 1894, is a 7-room bed and breakfast in the college town of Alma, Michigan. Built as a wedding gift, the 11,000 sf Dutch Colonial mansion affords guests large rooms, all with private baths, and grand public spaces that include a ballroom, library, billiard room, sunroom, and wraparound porch. A full English/American breakfast is included in all room rates. Upscale amenities in some guestrooms include working fireplaces and spa bathrooms; all accommodations are in large rooms with seating areas. Alma College, the Masonic Home, Mid Michigan Health Center, and the town's picturesque business street are within walking distance.

Saravilla is a charming older home with elegant, comfortable rooms and a friendly proprietor who enjoys recounting the interesting history of this former mansion, built at the turn of the last century. The breakfast is delicious, and the home-made muffins are an exceptional treat. Sitting on the large front verandah, watching the fireflies and reading a good book, was a most pleasant way to spend an evening. Alma is a small town in the middle of Michigan (one is tempted to say in the middle of nowhere ;), but the area does offer surprisingly decent dining options: the Alma Brewing Company did not disappoint.

Very accommodating host, warm welcome from host pup and host cats, nicely maintained property, very comfortable and cozy guest rooms. Great location, easy walk to main street shops, bars, and restaurants. Great spot for access to Alma College. Highly recommend.

We have stayed here many times but this is our first visit back to Saravilla after 5 years. We were disappointed with the previous owners who acquired the property at the time and were letting the home fall into disrepair. However, the new owners have revitalized the mansion and it's better than ever.

Kelly and Rochelle make guest accommodations a priority. We stayed for a week to visit family and it was a wonderful experience. Very clean, quiet and comfortable.

Breakfast is awesome. You have daily choices of Scrambled Eggs & Bacon, Baked French Toast, and Meat or Veggie Quiche. I enjoyed all of these.

As I said in my previous review, there are only two places I can recommend in the Alma area and Saravilla is #1. We may come back again for a weekend this summer.

A must see if you like grand, old homes. The story behind this "summer cottage" is interesting, the beautiful design of the rooms and the quality of the build are inspiring, and the host/owner definitely loves his job and the home.

I would definitely recommend staying there.

We have stayed at the Saravilla several times. The new owners are very committed to keeping this lovely home in tip top shape. The rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable. There are thoughtful touches throughout. The breakfasts are cooked especially for you and you have a choice of 3 entrees. There is always a delicious baked treat and fresh fruit to accompany your entree. It is a quiet peaceful and comfortable stay.

Stay was excellent. Phone contact pleasant and easy even with change in ownership. Trust factor was a plus. Even when owners' evening plans conflicted with my arrival they made sure I could get in whenever I arrived. Only suggestion is to consider an earlier breakfast time. An 8 a.m. start worked for me this time but there are other times when I'd prefer at least a 7 a.m. option.

It's best if you call Saravilla directly to make your reservation. That way, you can give them your preferences on what you like and don't like. They will do their best to meet your needs.

This place is a perfect get-away for any occasion! It's rich with history. Not only is each room clean and cute, but each room has it's own story. You will be amazed the minute you walk through the door of each and every room. The staff is wonderful. They treat you like family. So, if you need to step from your daily routine for a day or two, give them a call. You won't regret it.

Saravilla never disappoints, having stayed many times. The accommodations are comfortable and gourmet breakfast tops off any stay. The innkeepers provide a very personalized experience. This lovely historic mansion provides a picture of the past!

We chose SaraVilla for our bridal shower & Bachorette party as our daughter wanted a Beauty & The Beast theme. We rented the ballroom for her shower which was right out of the beasts castle. My daughter was actually teary as we decotated for the event as it was so perfect! Kelly & Rochelle were wonderful to work with & went out of their way to be accommodating to us & our guests. We walked downtown for her Bachorette party (which was a convenient four blocks away) & then stayed the night with our guests. The breakfast was amazing!! They have the sweetest pets as well. We became acquainted with Abby & Jack, who were magically out of sight during our main event. The rooms are very lavish with an 1800's flair. We all commented after that our whole event & experience was "perfect." It could not have went any better!!
