Had a couple of nights here in October 2012. It's right on the main square and reasonable value for money. The staff are friendly and helpful with recommendations for where to visit/eat in town and how to get there - but they didn't speak much English. The breakfast was OK and did vary from day to day. Our room around the central area was a bit noisy and light at night though and some of the features could do with updating (TV, window locks), but they do say that you can flush toilet paper down the toilet, which is unusual for Bolivia!

The Colonial is well-located on the main square in Sucre, has some very helpful desk staff and is reasonably inexpensive. The breakfast is also good, offering a bit of variety from day to day. Having said that, there are some obvious difficulties. The hotel is a lovely old 3 storey building built around a central courtyard, and therein lies its problem. Noise from the lobby downstairs drifts upwards at all hours. The lights on the mezzanines outside the rooms shine through the rather thin curtains in the rooms until they’re turned off well after midnight. Only the suites, located at the front on the square, allow any natural light into the room, and the windows in all the other rooms front onto the mezzanines, so they are always rather dark. We closed our windows at night for noise and security purposes, and felt like we were suffocating. There are no fans or AC, so what temperatures these room hit at night in the warmer months is anybody’s guess. Would probably be a reasonable choice for cooler months.

Great location in a very nice city. The rooms had a questionable push button lock and the balcony doors wouldn't close (we had to barricade them shut). Foolishly I didn't lock my bag when going out for dinner and someone went through my bag and took 600 BL, didn't notice until in Santa Cruz the next day. If staying here keep an eye out.

Located on the main square, could not have been more central.

Room was HUGE, with a living area in addition to the bedroom. Great view of the square from the bedroom.

Breakfast wasn't anything to rave about, but for the price you can't complain and there are options to upgrade the breakfast.

Shower was hot and powerful. Staff at reception was very helpful even with the our lack of Spanish. Bell boy was sound.

we had two stays in Sucre. one at the Hotel le su Merced( very nice) and the second stay three nites at Hostel Colonial. this hotel had a great location. we had the front room on the second level with a floor to ceiling window/door overlooking the Plaza. we loved the view and the light. and luckily the nights we were there the plaza was quiet. our friends had an interior room that was dark, cramped and very uncomfortable. they were very disappointed and there was no possibility for room change.
our room had high ceilings and lots of space but we had problems with the plumbing, the sparking outlets,
it was a bargain and a convenient. But i would describe it as ragged and shabby. it looks so much better in the photos. dont expect as much in person.
