I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at the Lotus Villa Hotel in Luang Prabang this past December. To be honest I picked the hotel rather quickly without extensive research. But this was my lucky day! Lotus Villa has a great location – close to shopping, a wide variety of restaurants, temples and pagodas, as well as other travel worthy sites. The breakfast in the garden was a nice touch and very well done. The wait staff were terrific! Housekeeping was always there but you never saw them – just their efforts (which were competent and efficient). I especially liked how housekeeping would visit my room while I was out to dinner, turn down the bed, adjust the lights, and leave a votive candle nightlight so you’re not lost in the dark. The manager was especially helpful with tours and other matters – and he recommended a great spa just around the corner (which I visited every day!). I will certainly be returning to Lotus Villa in the future.

Just stayed three nights in this very comfortable hotel. My suite had a large double bed with premium bed linen, a rather spartan sitting area with a nice balcony, a bath and a shower. The luxury was spoilt a little by glugging noises from the sanitation system but everything worked. As a Westerner you do have to learn how to use the shower taps which turn In Opposite directions.
Breakfast, served in the tropical garden, offered French tropical lights such as French toast with honey and cinnamon, excellent Lao coffee, and a plate of lush sliced fruit.
Location is good - near the riverside restaurant on the Mekong and the cafes on Nam Khan, and L’Elephant classic European food at luxury prices. The famous night market is a short and easy walk.
Service was quietly excellent.
I would happily stay here again

The Lotus Villa Boutique Hotel is sweet little hotel off the main street. There isn’t a pool and it’s a little more of a traditional style hotel. It’s very clean and charming and the breakfasts were very good. We recommend staying in a second-floor room at the back of the hotel (not street facing). The views are better from this side and these rooms have a lot of light. The staff at the Lotus Villa are quite pleasant and fun to talk with. Across the road is Popolo, an Italian restaurant with some very tasty food, and just a few blocks away is the terrific Tamarind that serves a very delicious vegan tasting menu (reserve a table outside on the deck). Also, be sure to check out the boutique Ock Pop Tok located about a block from the hotel. This is a female driven weaving co-op that has beautiful fabrics and they offer a free shuttle to their local Living Crafts Center.

We stayed for four nights. Overall the hotel is good, and I would stay here again. ADVICE: call/email the hotel and arrange airport pickup $10 USD. We chose the taxi route to save money. You need to buy a ticket at the airport taxi/transfer desk, which can be a hassle. Then, the driver dropped us off and pointed us to “our hotel” but he was off by over ½ a mile. We had to rent a tuk tuk to get to our hotel. We are savvy travelers but were exhausted from over 40 hours travel. It just happened.

As for the hotel. Check-in was easy. The Wi-Fi was poor. Otherwise, the water was hot (excellent shower), toilets flushed, etc. We were on the second floor. No elevators and tight winding stairs. Be careful. The hotel was quiet. We had no issue with early morning traditional monk walk. In fact, we had a street view and our room was quiet. Also, our room had a large balcony overlooking the breakfast courtyard.

Breakfast was from 7 AM to 11 AM. It was made to order with additional helpings if requested. Room size was adequate complete with air conditioning and a fridge. The room was equipped with coffee maker and plenty of fresh water was available.

Hotel location was within walking distance to everything, including plenty of restaurants. Food prices are inexpensive. The hotel can arrange tours, but we did everything on our own. We walked to the Mekong and found a driver or a boat master, depending on our needs.

This boutique hotel is pretty and has a very friendly staff. The highlights of our stay there were certainly enjoying breakfast in a beautiful courtyard in front of our room and the excellent location. This made us very much enjoy our stay.

As we traveled however during the Christmas period (peak season) the room prices were slightly high. The hotel rooms are also not insulated well against noise (no issue though if earplugs to sleep). Both seem to be the norm for hotels in Luang Prabang (we've also stated at another one during the same trip).

Great spot centrally located for walking around town and close to everything you will want to see. Also is on the monks' morning route making it easy to simply step out of the hotel and take part in the ceremony in the early morning. Rooms situated around nice lush courtyard. Ours was on second floor (there are only two floors), was in the back section. Best if you request one of these rooms in back as the front ones are right on the street thus maybe loud as tuk tuks go by in morning. Rooms are rustic wood style but well equipped and comfy. Reasonably priced for Luang Prabang these days. Made to order breakfast is great each morning and is served at your table in the lush garden area. Staff were very friendly, helpful and spoke English. Also they can arrange tours & transport for you if you'd like. I’d definitely stay here again.

This was our second stay at Lotus Villa. It is conveniently located about a 5minute walk to the town center. Located in a very attractive and quiet neighborhood about 5 minute walk to the Mekong River in the other direction. The staff is very helpful and the morning breakfast is a delight and served outside in a tropical setting. The complementary breakfast offering off a menu is extensive. Our room was very comfortable and had outside chairs in a shaded porch overlooking the garden. Hotel is about a 20 minute ride from the airport. Definitely look forward to another visit to Lotus Villa.

I really liked Lotus Villa! The staff is great, the building and rooms are really nice, and the location can't be beat. I liked that it was in the best part of the historic district, but not right on the main street, so it is quiet. The attractive wood-paneled room had a comfortable bed and was well equipped but not luxurious. The breakfast wasn't a buffet, but the guests can order as many items as they like off the menu and I basically had the whole menu every morning! It was filling and delicious. One morning I got up early and watched the monks come by with their bowls right in front of the hotel. My room didn't have a TV, which might be an issue for some visitors, but I didn't care. In fact I think it added to the charm.

A general observation: After spending five days in Luang Prabang I was really happy I stayed in the historic district because the rest of the city is pleasant but not nearly as charming as the historic district itself. So I would recommend that anyone

Cosy villa with atmosphere located in the old part of LP close to the river. Inner rooms on the upper floor facing the garden is to prefer due to some noice from the street. In 5 minutes walk you are on the main street with the market, restaurants and shops.

Lotus Villa is a really beautiful property. We had a second floor room with a beautiful terrace overlooking the lush tropical garden. The staff here are very sweet and the breakfast is REALLY lovely with terrific little touches. It's a beautiful little oasis in the lovely town of Luang Prabang, easily accessible by foot to all of the touristy things and yet not so close to them as to feel overwhelming. Highly recommend staying here.

Like Sarah says, the original building (rooms 1-8 I believe) has a separate shower/toilet room, with a door for privacy. The sink area is open-plan with the room, although by the door and away from the sleeping/dressing area. We stayed 6 nights in total, in two different rooms, and were quite satisfied where privacy was concerned.

Is the room too small as only 15sqm
Answer from Kijtanat P
Bangkok, Thailand191 contributions67 helpful votes
It's a bit small. Although it has a dedicated shower area and toilet, both are on open space with walls separating the bed (no door). There is no dedicated wardrobe but only hanging string and the cloth hangers. Overall it's small but adequate and would be OK for a few nights stay.

Hi, I can't believe this wasn't answered before.... ! Yes, the day beds are large enough for an adult! Hope this helps, and G'day.

I don't know what you mean by 'day bed'? The hotel is very clean and comfortable and I have only slept in a regular bed...and they were great. Get the suite and you will have one huge bed and in another room adjoining, two choices of singles. I highly recommend this hotel!
