We traveled as a family for the Lao New Year festivities. Our stay at the Villa Maydou offered us the opportunity to really embrace the very unique atmosphere of the city. The buildings are dating from 1925-1930 and were renovated by following the local techniques. Plus, the magnificent garden makes it a serene oasis. Located just beside a temple, the villa is at walking distance (15 min) of the peninsula. It is also very close to the Lao Red Cross were massage are proposed. Bicycles (very recent and in good condition) can be borrowed on the spot, making the discovery of the city and it surrounding very pleasant.
We had a wooden room at the first floor with a nice balcony looking at the green swimming pool which integrates in the surrounding vegetation. Rooms are super clean, decorated with style without ostentation.
Breakfast is really good beyond expectations, proposing home made delicacies, local products and Lao coffee from northern provinces.
Hat off for the staff who is very kind and professional.
Villa Maydou is a charming gem !

A bit far from the city center but not a problem, it is walkable in 15 mins. My room is on the ground floor but not noisy at all. Staffs are friendly, especially for white people. Room is huge and spotless, there is no TV in the room, Wifi is available but the signal is poor. Breakfast is included, food was beautiful and they service local tea.

The hotel is based in an attractive array of traditional buildings with stepping stones through the gardens to each one. In our bathroom there was a swarm of flying insects which was unpleasant but we dealt with them without too much bother (sorry vegans but they had to go). The bathroom has a shower attachment and curtain over the bath, the toilet room didn't have a washbasin which seems a little. As for the TV I wasn't aware that you could buy one that small, there wasn't any English language stations and most of them looked as if it was snowing. In fairness it wasn't an inconvenience for us as we didn't come to watch television. Our room had Aircon and ceiling fans which was most welcome. The hotel appears to be on the flight path of the local airport but they have hardly any flights so it wasn't problematic. The pool is quite small with green tiles which nicely complements the surroundings, it's large enough to cool off in which is the main thing, it's the same depth of 1.6 meters over the whole length. Near the pool are sunloungers with parasols, three tables and chairs with chess sets, conveniently towels are available by the bar, also you can borrow bicycles which is a nice idea.

We stayed 3 nights in one of the deluxe tradition rooms, they are really pretty. Its like a green oasis and also good located.
Breakfast is okay, nothing too special.
After this 3 nights we went to a lodge further up the mekong and came back for 2 nights at villa maydou.
For those 2 nights we got a extrem downgrade roomwise!!
We payed for the deluxe room but we just got a normal room, which was full of Moskitos and the refrigerator was super loud and the wifi didnt woWe asked the staff at reception if it’s possible to change the room, but apparently he wasnt able to do that. So we asked if he atleast can spray something and we could change the next day and he said yes. but after asking 2 more times still no one of them could help us. And for me at this point customer service would be to find someone in charge and come to us to offer us a solution. They sprayed some chemicals at least but then left all the death moskitos in the rooms, that was quite grose.
So i have mixed feelings about this place. Its always such a bad feeling you get, when you actually like the place, its pretty but no one helps you.

Response from Gaelle_VillaMaydou, Guest Relations Manager at Villa Maydou
Responded Feb 26, 2020
Dear nuumi, Thank you for your constructive review. I am glad to see that you enjoyed your stay the first time, and deeply sorry about what you experienced the second time. Unfortunately, I have not been told about your issues when you were there so I investigated your case through our team which is the reason why I am only answering you now. According to your saying, I still have difficulties in finding your booking with us. Nevertheless, I sincerely apologize about this experience and the fact that we could not provide an solution that was effective enough. Concerning the mosquitoes, we are currently considering new options to keep them away without using chemicals. As for the breakfast, we provide everyday fresh products from local partners and homemade cakes, jam, fruit juices, yogurt etc. as well as salty dishes like eggs cooked on demand, sausages of Luang Prabang or Lao noodle soup. Our Lao coffee and our 3 different teas (green, black and red) are also available to go with the breakfast according to everyone's taste. I would really like to hear more from you about what happened so I invite you to contact me through our email address : reservation@villamaydou.com Again I apologize for not being aware of your experience while you were with us. Kind regards, Gaelle, Guest relations manager

We spent three nights in Villa Maydou, as part of an extended southeast Asia trip.
The room looked OK but the toilet was terrible the WC was so squeezed that you barely had space to sit and the shower wasn’t working properly. Besides, it smelled like a closed space.
We were on the ground floor and the upper floor had a wooden floor: any step of the occupants of the upper room would wake us up at night...and furthermore they didn’t have the intelligence to ask the cleaning ladies not to clean the room at eight in the morning after the early check out of the previous occupants.
Internet wasn’t working at all in the room so we had to go to the reception every time we needed it..and a lot of other things were not working properly and make your stay unpleasant.
Also, the location is quite unfortunate if you’re planning to spend your time in the old part of the city.
My personal recommendation is you find yourself a different place to stay

We enjoyed the location, a little outside the main drag and the historic buildings nestled together.

However, it was too noisy; noise from the road starts early bit particularly from the rooms. The floorboards were so creeky, in our room and others so it just disturbed everyone. We could also hear people's alarms and things.

Breakfast was a bit disorganised too

I have been used the services of Villa Maydou for many years as i lived in Laos before and i always recommend it to friends. I wanted to see how they are now after the COVID. It is amazing how the Villa Maydou has kept the quality, the cleanness, the kindness of the staff. The rooms are perfect, the garden is a great oasis in town and you feel in a very special place: great decoration in the room, wonderful breakfast and such a peaceful atmosphere.

My husband and I stayed at Villa Maydou for more than a week in April 2023. Our travel company booked it for us, and we couldn’t have been more pleased. It’s beautiful, peaceful and feels luxurious. We enjoyed the short walk into town and having monks as neighbors. The most impressive thing about Villa Maydou is the staff. They are very attentive, maintain high standards and are friendly and helpful. It was hard to leave, and we only hope we can return soon!

Lovely and charming hotel with spacious rooms in authentic and historic buildings, next to a temple and a short distance from the heart of the city which added to the overall charm.
The staff were very helpful. Special thanks go to the owners, Noy and Patrick, for their professionalism and courtesy, which was much appreciated.
This establishment is highly recommended for its delightful ambience, very good service and convenient location.
