We spend 3 days in March at villa Maydou and we really enjoyed everything ! The room was perfect, very calm. The breakfast was very good, especially the crêpes. We also enjoyed the swimming pool and the little bar next to it. All the persons from the staff were nice and helpful. The restaurant was good too. The location is convenient and they have bicycles (a bit old).

Our first time in Laos and we picked this on recommendation as a quiet and comfortable boutique hotel in Luang Prabang. More than lived up to that! Very welcoming, really comfortable and well appointed rooms, quiet, nice small pool (slightly surprising green tiles) with poolside bar, nice cocktails and snack meals. The property has its own restaurant, serving generous and very nice meals, both Laotian and more international dishes. Set back from the main road from which it's separated by its 'own' temple, close to the 'old' bridge over the Khan river. About 15 mins walk to the main part of the the town, though taxi or tuktuk easily available. Really nice place to stay and would very happily do so again! Really can't fault it!

We stayed at the Villa Maydou for four nights. The first evening & night were so bad that we were on the brink of looking for somewhere else to stay, for two reasons. First, the bed was so hard that we hardly slept at all. We are both 'seniors' and find that our bodies are much more sensitive to mattress density than they used to be when we were younger. Second, the internet signal in the complex was so bad, we could pick up barely reasonable wifi only while sitting in the reception area. The bed hardness issue was 90% solved by the hotel staff adding a mattress topper. The staff also worked to improve the internet signal but it remained flaky to the extent I had to sit by the window in our room to get a 3 star signal level. Some might think that having a good internet signal is unreasonable but we rely on the internet to search for restaurants, keep in touch with our families, and, in this case, provide some entertainment in the evenings as our room at the Villa Maydou did not contain a TV. Lastly, the Villa is a fair walk from the sights and activities of Luang Prabang to the extent that one daily excursion was fine, two were a stretch, and three out of the question... at least for our older legs. On the positive side, the staff were wonderful, attentive, and cheerful and the breakfasts top notch. Having a pool was fantastic, though the 'designer' who chose green coloured tiles for the pool might have chosen a different colour as the pool looked as though the water itself was green and past its 'due date'... while it was actually perfectly fine. There were some 8 or 10 lounge chairs around the pool but not a huge amount of shade in the afternoon. Luckily we found a couple who were searching for sun as looked for shade, so we played musical chairs with them. BTW, Luang Prabang is a wonderful destination and we loved staying there. If you are planning a trip, go sooner rather than later. A rail link to southern China is being built and I think the influx of a large volume of tourists may overcome the very nature of this small town.
