Let’s start by saying that I spent 3 great weeks traveling through Thailand and Laos and that I am used to stay in nice hotels & resorts, which I used all along my trip. My vacation ended up in early March in Luang Prabang and, based on the recommendation of a friend, I spent my last 4 nights at the 3 Nagas. I did not have any specific expectation about the hotel before checking-in, I just knew that it reflected well the colonial past of the city and that it looked charming by the pictures I had seen online. I also liked the central location of the hotel, ideal to wander around. Upon check-in, we were welcome by a gentleman named Bird, who took the time to have us seated in a semi-private space, where we were offered a welcoming drink while he explained us about the hotel and the city. During this time, the admin process with passports was done in the back office. Bird was very attentive and willing to help with suggestions of what to do during our stay. When we came back at the end of our first day In Luang Prabang, we found in our room a personalized itinerary with the suggestions we had mentioned during our discussion: very nice surprise! Our room in the main building on the first floor was very spacious and could speak of itself with the very well preserved colonial architecture and design. Large private terrace as well, perfect to relax with a book and a drink at the end of the day or to observe the Monks procession early in the morning. The restaurant is located just across the road and offers a great food selection + delicious cocktail drinks. The “à la carte” breakfast in the morning will please anyone with different kinds of food (western, fusion, local or healthy) and cold and hot beverage. The waiter and the waitress of whom I can’t remember the names were always smiling, reactive and attentive. Two other gentlemen at the reception, Jed and Yod, were also very dedicated, asking about how our day was, helpful with the motorbike and car rental or just to suggest and book fancy restaurants. Nice tip, they have a free shuttle that can bring you to the Sofitel if you want to enjoy their big swimming pool, particularly refreshing at the end of a warm and sunny day (both hotels are run by Accor management). Of all the nice hotels I used during my 3 weeks (chain or independent resorts), that one was probably where we kept the best memories. The city of Luang Prabang helps of course, but the way this very charming hotel is run made the difference. The people working there were all friendly and dedicated. By experience, I know that an outstanding service makes the difference between a nice hotel and a great hotel. The 3 Nagas were definitely a great place to stay and I would come back with pleasure... Khobchai! 🙏🏻…
Beautiful hotel with breakfast taken in a separate area across the street. Nice room, room 1 on the ground floor, but noisy at times from footsteps on the floor above. Staff were excellent with good English.
On our last day of staying here for 7 nights The hotel is in a great location right on the Main Street. All bars shops restaurants in walking distance. Great place to see the monks in the early morning. All the staff are very friendly and helpful Bikes available for use. The sister hotel The Sofitel has a swimming pool to use, the cost is about £2 in a tuk tuk to get there, too far to walk but you are greeted with a glass of iced water The hotel is split into 2 buildings on either side of the road and contains 15 rooms, breakfast is good and lunch and evening meal are also available
When we first arrived we were assigned a room on the ground floor (the hotel is split across 2 buildings & we were not housed in the one in all the pictures but a building across the road) the room layout was strange & felt stuffy - accessed through the gift shop & although it had a terrace/patio it was only split from the restaurant by a thin screen so felt like we were in the restaurant). On check-in the host told us that if it was noisy she implied that we could move to the sister hotel (Sofitel about 1.5km away) if we weren’t happy. The next day we asked to move rooms & did so once other guests had vacated. Our room was now upstairs which felt better but still had small issues. The buildings are old, mainly constructed with wood & protected from permanent modifications which we understand but some features seemed impractical & in general we didn’t feel very comfortable. I didn’t even unpack my things because I didn’t feel like it. difficult thing to articulate as it was more an amalgamation of factors. Some of the tiles in the bathroom were loose, and the shower over the bath didn’t feel very luxury, an old wardrobe mirror was nailed to the wall and there wasn’t anywhere to hang towels. Breakfast was served across the road, but evening meals in our building and all day we saw staff run across between the two with food and drinks. Staff appeared to be polite/aimed to please but at the same time were inconsistent-didn’t greet us when we returned despite walking straight past them & they’re not given training for if someone strays from the expected answers. We spent quite a lot of money to stay at this hotel compared to other places in the area plus booked tours & felt that we expected more from our stay. The tours we had were mixed: one was a private sunset cruise on the Mekong that was sold as “free flow non alcoholic drinks” (an alcoholic version was offered but we didn’t choose it) and actually we were made to feel awkward to ask for another drink... usually the “free-flow” element would be offered especially in a place where things like that are so affordable. We knew that we had paid a lot for the boat trip as we had shopped around but we chose it for convenience and had a big boat all to ourselves - plus went a different way to most boats that do the sunset trip. Another tour was a drive to the Kuang Si waterfall - the 20,000kip (each) entrance fee wasn’t included in our trip but nobody told us until we got there. It’s a good job we had cash on us otherwise we would have driven for an hour at 7am for no reason. We had a good time until we had to wait 30 minutes for our driver because he wasn’t near the car when we wanted to travel back. Simple things that we have experienced smoothly in other hotels just weren’t smooth here such as repeating your breakfast order back to us so we know everything is understood - I got watermelon juice instead of watermelon fruit and small things like that all add up to a frustrating experience because they happen one after another. We think that the hotel is trying to offer something that it isn’t quite achieving and so feel a bit sad that we paid so much compared to other guest houses (it felt like a guest house rather than a hotel but it was definitely a hotel price) and unfortunately wish that we had stayed elsewhere. It wasn’t bad as such, just really not as good as we expected. We also noticed another couple that changed rooms and they were then arranging to see the other SOFITEL hotel so we can’t be the only ones that felt like this. Would not return or recommend as it didn’t feel like we got value for money. …
Each and every staff provide excellent customer service. Everything is done un details & I appreciate the friendliness & professionalism from all the staff especially bird, yout & noy. This is somewhere where I can feel like home and I definitely recommend you to stay here. The location was fantastic, night market is just a 5 mins walk away & even the alms giving is just right outside the hotel.
