Certificate of Excellence
The name Dalabua means "Lotus Princess" which perfectly describes the refreshing character of our charming boutique hotel surrounded by UNESCO classified ponds. Maison Dalabua stands on one of the most serene location in Luang Prabang away from the hustle and bustle of the Peninsula, we are just 3 minutes walk from the historical center with easy access to the night market, royal palace and historical temples & buildings. The hotel features 40 rooms set in a tropical environment with different maisons scattered around the property. All rooms are furnished in an elegant blend of traditional Lao contemporary design, with all modern amenities. The spa and swimming pool are the best places to chill out after a long day in town. As the sun goes down while sipping a drink on the deck of Manda de Laos, our Laotian restaurant, watch the sunset and the secret view of Mount Phousi before a romantic dinner.

We were so excited when we saw the grounds of Maison Dalabua. It's beautiful. The lotus ponds are gorgeous and are so refreshing to walk next to each time you come to the hotel. The bed is comfortable and the bathroom is delightful. It was nice having two sinks. The pool is lovely. I especially liked the seats along the edge. It was the perfect place to chill in the middle of the afternoon when it was so hot :). The airport transfer arrangement was nice. The spa was lovely! I loved both of my appointments-ish ;). Now for the reasons, I'd look at a different hotel next time I'm in Luang Prabang. Though, I should say if I was argumentative I might have gotten these things fixed while there. Unfortunately, I'm not trying to argue on vacation so I mention things once and then decide it's not getting fixed. On arrival, we were told we were upgraded. I immediately mentioned I'd booked two beds and was told I hadn't (in looking at my hotels.com booking, I did send the email to the hotel but didn't get a response). He named the room we had booked and said that it didn't have separate beds. I've done some more research and I did book the higher roomer as on Hotels.com they don't list the names Maison Dalabua uses, but the in room features are for the higher room. I saw this mentioned in another review as well, but the hotel responded that they checked online and it didn't say separate bathtub, so I"ll put a picture saying we should have had a bathtub just to prove my point. In other words, we were downgraded, but fooled into thinking it was an upgrade. Our first night our aircon was terrible. We called the reception and he came, played with the remote, and left. He didn't speak English, so I would have expected a follow up from reception. On our last day reception followed up with us about the aircon (4 days after this original call). The aircon was bearable, but not great. We would go to the cafes in town because they were cooler. The Wi-Fi is terrible, again we would go to cafes to not get cut off all the time. As I needed to work a bit, I'd booked for the "hi-speed wi-fi". I do understand electricity gets cut off and what not, but the electricity wasn't going out, just the wifi (and the cafes had really good wi-fi so the hotel should be able to as well.) I had two massages and a pedicure at the spa. The massages were fabulous and the people were so kind and professional. For whatever reason, the girls giving the pedicures don't want to. While I don't speak Laotian, the laughing, smirking, and rapid fire speaking with "pedicure" being said and a laugh...really showed a lack of professionalism. I decided not to mention this to the front desk as I was going to do another massage, in the end it was the same girl as the pedicure and I didn't do it because she was just not worth the money again. Good things...for sure. I would say if you're more argumentative than me, you'd like the hotel. I didn't fight for things and just didn't feel like fighting (this was my 5 day vacation in the midst of an international move).

Maison Dalabua is exquisitely beautiful, like stepping into an impressionist painting for a holiday. The week I spent in one of their overwater bungalows feels like a soft and gentle dream to look back on. I was greeted by a Laotian manager, who showed me to my room and took the time to teach me a couple of essential Lao phrases, which I really appreciated. The room was spacious and delicious, with a huge bed (easily the softest, comfiest bed I slept on in my time in SE Asia), Laotian art adorning the walls, a beautiful & functional bathroom, and - the highlight - a large overwater balcony looking out over the lotus-filled lake. The clever use of grasses to screen the balcony meant that I felt that I had plenty of privacy but still had a beautiful view of the lake, and a good overhang on the roof meant I could sit outside and contemplate life, the universe and everything, even as the rain came down (I was there during green season). I loved the breakfasts (included in the accommodation price) with their distinctly Laotian twists. Sure, you can just have jam and toast if you're not feeling adventurous, but your jam will be mango jam, or papaya jam, or tamarind jam (mmmmm!). But my favourites were the khao nom krok - tiny, moreish coconut pancakes. My one small complaint about breakfast is it would have been good if the vegetarian offerings were labelled. I was too nervous to try some of the more unfamiliar dishes, in case they contained meat (some mornings I asked one of the lovely waitstaff, but you start to feel like a pain doing so every morning). The on-site restaurant & bar is a must-go, for the picturesque location alone. I was so taken with the beauty of the place that I can't seem to remember what I ate? Except that it was delicious. I can also recommend the tours by Maison Dalabua's resident driver/tour guide Ouseng, who is friendly, accommodating and very knowledgable and informative. The location is away from the main tourist areas, but Luang Prabang is small enough that everything is walkable nevertheless. The night market is a quick five-minute stroll; the foot of Mt Phousi 10 minutes, and the tip of the peninsula is more like half an hour's wander - but an interesting half an hour, with plenty of coffee shops and bars and handcrafts and temples to keep you entertained and refreshed in the heat. Also important to note: as a woman travelling alone, I never felt even remotely unsafe or uncomfortable during my stay at Maison Dalabua. Maison Dalabua is a stunning place to stay. I reckon I'll be remembering it as a travel highlight when I'm reminiscing on my deathbed in (hopefully) 50 or 60 years time.

What a wonderful hotel. The breakfast served over the Lotus pond was excellent, the home made bread, jams, pate were wonderful. Its a short walk to the town centre and night markets and the hotel loan bikes should you wish to explore further. We were amazed that there were no mosquitoes, we spayed repellent on the first night but really did not need it. Great staff, large clean rooms in a wonderful location. The only drawback was the swimming pool only opened between 8 am and 7pm, we assume this was because some rooms were very close to the pool. We would have liked a swim later in the evening on a hot night.

This hotel is beautiful one, i got to book it via a friends recommendation. And to my surprise, i was pleasantly to be in tranquility, and have laid back time. The Lotus garden was the best. I have seen Lotuses before, but not in this huge quantity. Hotel room was decorated with Laos cultural items, the bed was perfect for my back. The breakfast was having both Laos and western food. Just excellent time I had in this hotel. I could sit in the Lotus garden for long, but had to go out as well. I would highly recommend this hotel for the people who wants to enjoy tranquility and to have peaceful time at Luang Prabang.
