The Pumalin was the perfect place to locate within walking distance of the night market, near great coffee shops and restaurants and less than a block from the Mekong. Located on Saiffron Coffee Alley. The staff were so helpful on every front, whether ordering transportation, giving directions or responding to needs at the breakfast buffet. The breakfast was varied and fresh. I enjoyed the fresh juices. You can order special-cooked eggs and noodle soup as well. Coffee/tea, hot and cold water are available 24 hours. Very convenient.
I stayed here for nearly a week. I was welcomed with fresh fruit juice and a plate of fruit on arrival. The staff were so pleasant and always helpful. My room was quite large with separated shower and toilet areas. It was, however, quite a dark room with no view to speak of. I suppose I could have tried to upgrade to a balcony room which might have been nicer for a longer stay. It was quite noisy with squalling cats disrupting the night. There is an outside courtyard, dining room, reception area which borders the street. It is steps from the river and the whole street is lined with hotels and hostels, some of which are in lovely heritage buildings. It's just around the corner from the start of the night market, so was very well placed for walking around town. I think, pleasant though this was, next time I would look for accommodation closer to the end of the peninsula and on the river.…
One Part of the house was formerly Oudomsouk. We booked it months before, knowing that now is main season and Chinese New Year. After a long tiring travel we arrived there and the reception said they don’t accept the bookings from the taken over part. Also no one informed us to make a new booking or they could have canceled it from their side. We could pay newly the very high rate or just leave and call the booking page by ourself. So we had to find anything bad for a high price ourself as everything was booked out. That is a very bad habit. Customer Service below Zero and also regarding responsibility for existing bookings. I don’t care who is the owner. To let people arrive and surprise them with: your reservation is worthless in the main season, and let them solve that by themself should lead to a removing out of all listed booking portals.…
We stayed 5 nights in the Villa Pumalin and felt very comfortable. Already when arriving we were served with cool lemonwater and fruits. The staff was always very friendly and helpful. We liked the wooden house, the dark wooden brown room with the comfortable bed. Everything was very clean. The buffet at breakfast was okay. A pity is only that because is outside and in December still a bit cool in the morning, the warm food becam rather quickly cold. For the coffee we would have preferred the good Northlaos coffee instead of instant. We therefore went first thing in the morning to the coffee shop nearby to enjoy a nice cup of coffee, before we returned for breakfast.
