Excellent location, courtesy, hospitality, services, clean rooms and excellent breakfast are only a frame to the wonderful experience we had at Dreamland Guesthouse. Walking through the corridors and rooms seems to sleep in a museum, works of art (many made by the mother artist of the guesthouse family), murals, musical instruments from all sides! Wherever I looked, there was beauty! Last but not least, a really special rooftop (not the first terrace, even higher!) where we had dinner, drink and chat with other couples we met at the hostel! I loved it!
The hotel was not fancy but clean and welcoming. The family run operation is accommodating and is ver helpful with information around planning your trip. They even make an effort to get up early to provide coffee and breakfast. We will be going back there to catch our plane when we depart from Mandalay
This is an adorable and funky in an artistic way little guesthouse not too close to city center but not too far. It was clean, the breakfast was good (they had great coffee, homemade peanut butter and if you are lucky, maybe mango jam), and best of all the staff really go out of their way to make their guests feel comfortable. This included answering all our many questions, receiving our delivered pizza (they have a great rooftop eating spot too), and letting us check in early when that bus got us there at 4 am. A bonus was besides English, they can speak Chinese - good for our non English speaking friends. The only caveat is the hot water heating is solar, so in December, we would suggest showering at night to get some warmth to the water. That having been said, as a hot water lover, it still wasn’t that bad, perhaps because Mandalay still is quite warm...…
I had a very good night staying at Dreamland Guesthouse. Two sisters run the hostel and they both speak Burmese, English, and Chinese. They are very friendly and responsible to travelers. They give you advice on day-trips, help book buses, and help arrange pick-ups from and to airport. The hostel is very artistic, filled with paintings and instruments. The lovely home-schooled children also help out with chores. Very polite and friendly.
I found this guest house on booking. We searched on booking it said $14 for a 2 room bed. When we arrived the girl said $14 was for 1 person, not two, $16 was the price for 2. She refused to give us the price on booking. After agreeing to the price she told us the room was full and it would cost $18 to stay there. She wouldn't honor the $16 price.
The hosts are very efficient and welcoming. Rooms are clean and air conditioned, you can get dorm-type and private. There is a very artistic atmosphere - piano, violin, painting and sculpture classes on ground floor.
I live in Yangon and whenever I need to go to Mandalay, this is the place where I stay every time. This family run guesthouse is just unique, artistic and inspiring. The staff is so helpful. The rooms are clean and spacious; and all have nice painting on the walls. The place is ideally located in town. You can easily rent a motorbike from them, all in perfect condition. Definitely my home in Mandalay!
We stayed there because of the very good ratings but were quite disappointed. Yes, it is cheap, but in Mandalay, you can find for 2 or 4 dollars more per room, something really better. We had nothing to put our things one. The bathroom is just 2 square meter with all inside : shower, toilets and small lavatory. They give you a very strange soap and shampoo mixture that does not smell good. I did not use that and used my ones. Personally I dislike the paintings but some may like that style. Sheets had small holes. We had difficulties to sleep because of the noise all the night. Breakfast is ok : toast and jam and one dish. People were very nice and they helped us a lot, it is just that the comfort is not corresponding to what you can get in Myanmar for even 25 dollars. If you can afford to pay 2 dollars extra, get some confort. And the hostel is not well located. It is quite fare from the city center where you have all the market and restaurants, around 45 min walk.…
I stayed 3 nights in the Dreamland guesthouse. The family who runs the guesthouse is so warm, friendly and always helpful. They rent motorbikes and bicycles, sell bustickets and help wherever they (tips for restaurant, must sees, routes, laundry etc) Highly recommend this clean and colourful B&B with a good breakfast and comfy beds! Thank you, Jessica & Joyce + family!
