The idea of combining art and accommodation is not new elsewhere in the world, but it is in this traditional city of Mandalay. When the country started to open up to the world in 2011, millions of curious travelers and visitors pour into Myanmar, among them are many independent backpackers/young travelers, this is something we encourage and want to support. We want to provide something different from the typical hotel rooms you'll get around the city. Ours is dreamland - the entire place is designed by the Dreamlanders, we used a lot of recycled materials, dedication of time and effort and little innovations here and there. If you are looking for luxuries of high-end hotels this is a wrong place to go. But if you are looking for something special - come! and experience a different Mandalay!

Dreamland is amazing, definitely the most unique and special place that I stayed in Myanmar. From the moment I arrived, Sophia and all her family made me feel right at home. I stayed in a dorm and it was great. The 8 bed dorm I stayed in for the first 3 nights had two ensuite bathrooms. The beds were comfy and everything was really clean. There is big lockers at the end of the beds which can be locked with a padlock. There is also sockets at each bed for charging your things. There are curtains on each bed which are good for privacy. The air con in the rooms is amazing, such a great escape from the crazy Mandalay heat!
The wifi here is about as good as it gets in Myanmar, perfectly fast for viber, facebook, etc.
Dreamland is also a music and art school, which means that sometimes when you are walking to your room, you pass kids practicing the violin or some other instrument which is really cool and unlike anywhere else I have ever stayed.
The common areas have really cool painted walls. The rooftop is a good place to hang out in the evenings and watch the sun set. It's also great to dry your washing.
For breakfast, you are given a voucher which you can use in the tea shop across the road. This is great, because the tea house is very local and the food is delicious.
You can rent bicycles and motorcycles for cheap prices, and you can also exchange dollars for Kyat.
There are loads of shops and restaurants really close to Dreamland, and it's only about a 15 minute bicycle ride from downtown Mandalay.
The Dreamland family are all so friendly and they all have incredible English and are willing to help with anything you could possibly want. They are so welcoming and constantly offering you tea whenever you are in the reception area.
If you come to Mandalay, you must stay here!

This is where i will return to in Mandalay. it is way ahead of competition and shows an understanding of travellers that I've found in Europe (Berlin notably) but until now, not in this country. Worth a stay just to enjoy it even if you don't feel like sightseeing :)

If you're looking for the best place in Mandalay? STOP! You've find it. Dreamland Guesthouse is the best cheap hostel/hotel in Mandalay. It used to be an art school, and if I remember it that well enough they still give lessons to students. The dorms consists bed bunks which will give you a bit of a Greek feeling. Lot's of blue and white colors. The family is super friendly, funny, hospitality minded and above all they give you a lot of information and they speak really well English! Even better then most tourists I guess, haha. The dorms are clean and you get you're breakfast on the other side of the road. I paid for my dorm 10 dollars per night, which is quit cheap in Myanmar. You can easily rent a motor taxi, they are waiting next to the guesthouse, to explore the area.

Definitely the most homely & pleasant stay I have in Myanmar, hotels doesn't even come close to their personal touch. Water is warm at ALL TIMES! Extremely important as most hotels in Myanmar cannot achieve this. They do provide motorbike rental, which was pretty well maintained. Breakfast was great, again, homely Myanmar food & toast. There is also a husky in the house! But I think he doesn't like lights so please don't use flash on him. Will definitely stay again here if I visit Mandalay. P.S. "I am sorry that I accidentally left without returning the keys, please let me know if the keys wasn't returned to the guesthouse in good order"

My partner and I returned to Myanmar for our second time this year. In Mandalay we again stayed at Dreamland. It really is the best place in Mandalay! There is such a wonderful homely vibe about the place that attracts both long and short term travellers. There were a couple of guests that had been staying there for 9-12 months whilst they worked in the city. It is popular for good reasons! What really makes a stay at Dreamland are the wonderful staff that go out of their way to help you and make your stay as comfortable as possible. This time round we were really looked after. My partner fell ill with Dengue Fever on our last night in Mandalay. We had to stay a day or two longer whilst he got over the worst of his sickness. Jess, Sophia and the other staff at Dreamland did everything they could to be of assistance. They gave my partner rehydration salts and water, allowed us access to the kitchen if we wanted it and assisted us with our onward travel plans when they had to change numerous times. We could not have been more grateful for everything they did! If we ever find ourselves in Mandalay again we wouldn't stay anywhere else. The rooms are large, clean and spacious, breakfast in the café opposite is tasty and local, wifi is the best we have experienced in Myanmar and so too are the staff :)

The guesthouse is clean and the facilities very good. The staff speak perfect English and they are very helpful. They provide tuktuk rides at a fair price and they advise you about travel itineraries. The wifi was really good, considering the Myanmar average speed.

If only all the guesthouses in Myanmar were like this. It is a great little family run guest house with clean facilities, and a pleasant and creative atmosphere. The owners and their daughters are ever so helpful and the idea that you get to go to the local cafe across the street with a translated menu of the local cuisine is awesome! Great experience, great value, and a charm of a guest house!

Excellent location, courtesy, hospitality, services, clean rooms and excellent breakfast are only a frame to the wonderful experience we had at Dreamland Guesthouse. Walking through the corridors and rooms seems to sleep in a museum, works of art (many made by the mother artist of the guesthouse family), murals, musical instruments from all sides! Wherever I looked, there was beauty! Last but not least, a really special rooftop (not the first terrace, even higher!) where we had dinner, drink and chat with other couples we met at the hostel! I loved it!

My friend and 1 booked a suite for 3 nights here at USD25/night. It is called a suite because we have our own room with a private bath. It basically gives us more privacy, storage space and a sense of security (maybe just a false sense) that our belongings are safer than placing them in the dorm.

The amenities of the hotel are basic, everything you ever need is there for you, and CLEAN. Not uncomfortable but do not expect luxury, simple and value for its price. And there is WIFI in the guestrooms, surprisingly faster than I expected, though some corners of the house isn't covered, but you can always go to the common areas and you shouldn't be connected that much being in Myanmar anyway.

The guest house is run by a local family, perhaps one of the few families with the best command of English in town? And they speak mandarin too. They are warm, welcoming, friendly and helpful. We do not leave empty handed every time we go to them with a question, even if they didn't know, they will still try to help. From tour, transportation to other cities, rent a bike/motorbike, where to go, what to eat, we have got all the information we need.

What an awesome trip I have and the stay definitely contributed greatly to the awesomeness!

Arriving from Europe Dreamland Hostel gave us a good guided start in Myanmar. Clean, colorful and quieter than expected next to a busy (mainly day time) road. Funny pictures introduced into the Myanmar way of using toilets and many other things :-) Very friendly sisters at the reception helped us a lot with their good English skills and knowledge of the town and traveling around. Breakfast is across the street in a basic tea house in a bit chaotic atmosphere but we liked it. We would stay there again next time in Mandalay.
