We stayed the one night at the end of our Myanmar trip.
The hotel has a large and impressive lobby area although to look at the actual building it's a real eyesore as it sticks as an ugly block among temples, pagodas etc.
Our three-night stay in this large, busy hotel was very pleasant and we had no problems. A hotel car was waiting to meet our ferry from Bagan as arranged, and when we reached the hotel, check-in was quick and efficient. Our 7th floor room had...More
The Mandalay Hill Hotel is a very nicely kept and extremely modern hotel. The grounds are impeccable and the service is flawless. I had the sense, from the first moment, that they would do anything necessary to make our stay a pleasant one. They succeeded!!!...More
4-Star public areas, 3-Star rooms, immaculately clean and well-maintained. Try to get a room facing the rear of the hotel. Although at some distance, there is a shopping strip mall across the street that has very noisey club-style music until 11 PM every night.

We went to the rainforest restaurant which is about 10 minute drive, however it took longer than usual as it was the water festival when we visited so lots of traffic. I enjoyed going into town but our guide recommended we return to the hotel by 9pm. We did eat twice in the hotel itself
We did have a guide the whole time so difficult to say how widely spoken English is. I got the impression that not many people do speak it. The taxi driver did manage a few words to negotiate price and chit chat about weather...
