Really adequate guesthouse. Not really expensive. Room was clean. Fridge in the room was empty though. You can rent bicycle for 1000 kyats. And location is really central and next to market. I would suggest this for backpackers

Clean and quite place in Central Mandalay and about 45 minutes walking to the Royal Palace Entrance (east gate). Price for a double room was 25.000 kyat (30 AUD). People from Myanmar raised all prices after 2010 (Democracy Government) and comparate than other accommodation in South East Asia, Myanmar's hostels are really expensive.
Free wifi, bathroom in the room, breakfast included. Reception staff will help you for every kind of tour (shared-taxi is my suggestion) you want to do.

Two words spring to mind when trying to describe this hotel, although given Tripadvisor's profanity guidelines, I'm not sure I'm allowed to write them!

This hotel offered the WORST experience I have ever had with accommodation while travelling!

I arrived on the bus at about 4am, so went through about four or five places (all full) before settling on this one - (after minimal sleep and an hour of hopping around to different guesthouses in a taxi, I clearly wasn't thinking right).

Problem(s):
- No running water in my room, despite hotel management informing me it was a new hotel that had all the mod-cons.
- After asking about the water FOUR TIMES, having to still wait an hour for someone to come up and try to fix it.
- When realising the water wasn't going to work, being sent to another room to use the shower, only to find there was no hot water.
- No working air-conditioner.
- Generally bad experience!

If you are desperate for a room late at night, you might want to consider sleeping in the gutter, because it would be better than booking a room at the Rich Queen Guesthouse.

I booked a double room for 2 nights at this guesthouse. It's good value for money, it's clean, quiet, close to a market and several restaurants, and the staff is helpful. Breakfast is nice and the Wifi works!
I didn't rent anything because a friend from Mandalay took me around, but the guesthouse provides bikes and motorbikes, and can arrange all sort of tickets you might need. I would recommend this place to other travellers.

i like the area as it is centralised, and we're far enough from the mosques/temples to not get woken up in the middle of the night by their prayer chantings. the guesthouse is situated in a small alley, right beside some wooden/rattan houses, and this adds to the charm of the place as you get to take a peek at how the locals live. being in the alley also mean you won't get your sleep disrupted by those loud lorries roaming around making some announcement and stuff. the main roads have no street lamp, so it helps to bring a torch at night, just in case.
there is free wifi at decent speed, though the signal gets weak even if you're on the second floor. some hiccups- we asked for a room with 2 single beds and they reserved one with a single big bed instead. so we're offered their staff quarters instead. o boy, that room was dirty, big, without a/c and still in a mess. so we took up the original room instead, which was clean, had a view down e alley. they also offered a mosquito zapper in the room, which came in handy in the middle of the night (not sure how to mosquitoes got into the room).
staff were helpful, and the owner's dad brought us around for a day tour and looked after us well. he was also very nice and treated us to breakfast at a dim sum place the next morning before our boat trip to bagan.
paid $25/nite for a dbl rm, which i think was quite decent.

Goodness knows how this place got a star from Lonely Planet because it's a hole, and the main reason why I didn't spend a second night in dusty, dirty Mandalay. My room was a hovel and located up several flights of stairs. Still, you'll meet a bunch of other backpackers here.

This place is in West Mandalay which is a bit far from some sights in Mandalay,
But the place is cheap and clean.
The staff is very friendly, and they have laundry service, rent bicycles and motorbikes for your trip in Mandalay.
Across the street is a Beer station which is nice for the evening.
And West Mandalay is also very nice to walk in as there are almost no tourists and very nice and friendly residential neighbourhoods with a lot of life.

A good cheap option in Mandalay.

I got food poisoning while in Mandalay. When the staff of Rich Queen realized that they asked me if I needed to go to medical facility (I said "no, I'll gut it out" no pun intended) and then kept checking in on me to make sure I was ok. They brought me green tea so I wouldn't drink water, which was going right through me, and soup.

Their English is limited but there is a driver loosely affiliated with the hotel named Aung Aung whose English is pretty good and he was there to facilitate everything.

The room I was in, #205 I think, was nice sized with high ceilings and crown molding and three LARGE windows all helped give the room the feeling of airiness and space.

Nobody expects to get sick but it happens and when it does it's nice to know you're staying somewhere that cares about your well-being. Rich Queen came through for me and I am grateful.
