Booked this hotel on 2 occasions in July and August, for 4 and 6 nights! Happy to see they kept the same high standard, impeccably clean, nice view over the pool from the 4th floor, free parking and wi fi (parking can be an issue, but there is an empty private parking lot just 50 yards away that is asking only £9 per day). Yes, you need to pay for the pool (£4 per person per day) but as I said before, it keeps hoards away, and yes, the head shower is fixed in the wall (get a grip guys, it's the American system that can be actually found in all major US, actually North American hotels) and is fine. Great price, £100 per night for the flat, and a bit cheaper towards the end of august, would definitely come back! Thank you

Because i have been in the hotel industry i have the bad habbits to notice everything.
The hotel is in a great location. Staff are nice and helpful, receptionist found us a room to check into at 8 am instead of 3pm which was great as we managed to enjoy the whole day at the beach.
Our room was a standard double but it had twin beds so we went down to request a double bed but we were told all their double rooms have twin beds and they were sold out of apartments ( even though on the website it showed that there were 5 available) this was a very inconvenient arrangement. Otherwise room was clean but bedding or towels had not been changed for our 4 night stay and shampoo and bodywash which we finished after the first wash never got replace.
Restaurant seems to have a wide choise of dishes but when we decided to have lunch only our 4th choise of food they had available which was a salad so we never dinned there again.
Pool is private rent so you have to pay to use.
Like i said the hotel is nice but as i am working in a 4* hotel i think there are a few changes that could make a difference in guest experience including the way the manager answers this reviews as i found many very rude and inapropriate and in hospitality the guest is allways right ( even when not)

Maximum 2 stars in stead of 4.
Small rooms, extremely small bathroom with shower fixed to the wall.
Entrance to the pool must be paid , even by hotel guests.
The food was expensive and not varied at all.

Except the fact it should be rated as a 2 star hotel Lots and Lots of problems:
1. No minibar in the room
2. Mould in the bathroom which is a 30*60cm sink actually
3. ants in the room
4. No clean towels ever
5. The room was not cleaned for ages...sand and food remains on the floor
6. the double bed is made out of 2 twin beds...
7.stained sheets
The list can go on and on and on for pages.
Find another hotel with a better price and better conditions....do not ruin your holiday

A nice location with bad management. There is almost none parking place, in the balcony I only had the frame from the chair and the breakfast was very, but very poor. Only cheap products and a horrible coffee. And, on top, you ARE NOT ALLOWED to go in the room with the coffee! In a so call 4 stars hotel - I'm furious.

Palas - Pelican is a group of hotels, Palas has 4 stars, Pelican has 3 stars. We booked an apartment for August 2011 in Pelican. It is worth mentioning that the apartment is the most expensive room they offer. We arrived at 11:30 am and we were told that they cannot check us in until after 13:00. So we left and we returned at 13:15 - the apartment was not ready.
So we waited in the lobby - for 2.5hours. Nobody came to offer us a glass of water, to tell us when the room will be ready...Even more, as we had a 3 years old child with us, the cleaning lady told us, on a very angry voice, to watch the kid, not to allow him to touch some inox columns in the lobby because "I have to clean it"!
At 3 o'clock they started to checkin the crowd which gathered in the lobby. Our apartment was still not ready, we had to wait 20 more minutes.
The last piece of the check in experience was the fact that they asked us to pay the full amount at arrival.
The room is smelly, with old furniture and no sea view (they promised us the sea view).
The good parts that I can mention so far is the fact that the carpet is clean, the bedlinen seems clean and the air conditioning is functioning.

We went to the Palas Hotel (4*) last summer, with our 2 years old boy and after the first night, we have called our travel agent and ask him to find another 4* hotel in Mamaia.

As we arrived at the hotel, we noticed that the air conditioning was broken and even if we got promises that it would be fixed within the next hour, it doesn't happen neither the next day!!!
The first (and only) night there was a living nightmare... we couldn't get any sleep at all because of the high temperature (there were at least 28 Celsius in the room) so we had to open the window. This didn't help too much because of all the mosquitos which entered the room along with the loud music from one restaurant across...I remember that I have called the receptionist at least 10 times because it was past one a clock in the morning and the music didn't stop....

The breakfast was scrimpy and there was an waiter with a list who didn't find my name on that list (thay have only one buffet for both the hotels, Palas and Pelican and the waiter was looking for my name on Pelican list instead of Palas...)

I have stayed a couple of nights in Palas Hotel in Mamaia (located close to Rex).
It is supposed to be a 4 star hotel, but it looks really shabby and badly maintained.

The room is small, the bed sheets really poor quality, with the cover sticking out of the sheet. (see photo)

The room has a small, malfunctioning bath with tired white towels. (see photo)
The shower was deteriorated, had no shower head. (see photo)

When I asked the reception for a repair, I was told that all shower are like this.(?!)
Air conditioning was hardly functioning.

The balcony for the first level initially seamed a nice touch, but soon I realize it can be a real problem, as it could easily be climbed from the garden. (see photo)
So, no sleep with the balcony door opened.

Bad service, impolite and indifferent personnel. Interrupting during a conference, not respecting the time for the brakes. No responsiveness.

Even more rudeness at the restaurant. When choosing to eating breakfast in the yard, head waiter threw a tantrum...
The food - I wouldn't eat twice here.

A good point: it has a good location - close to the beach.
Also has a swimming pool.

I have book 7 nights in this hotel in this month, i was there and at the day number 5 i need to leave urgently the hotel for family problems, I try to have a deal for have back the 50% of the money for the last 2 days or a voucher for the future...but nothing to do. I ask speak with the director but nothing to do they say that he was away. I travel a lot for my business, I am member of Marriott, Intercontinental and Carlson club and I am always trated like a king. However this wasn't only the one negative thing. The room are small and old, I ask for 2 single beds and they give me one, in the bedroom the wi-fi don't work (and I was at the ground floor!!) if you don't know there are special things that with only 30€ you can extend the signal...the bathroom isn't of an hotel of 4 star, they don't change the towel and the shower products and it's too small...the air condition engine wake up in the night when it starts because it's too noisy...and when arrive they try to convert the price in euro with 90€ more...I am without words I don't know how an hotel like this can work again...

NO COMMENT-annually in our hotel over 20,000 tourists come and you are one of them....everything was super good..accommodation, meals..I mean everything was ok!! it all started when you arrived at the reception and asked for money back .. because you have to leave! You say you had an urgent work! and that should give you your money back ..and I'd like to me to tell me where the hotels in which a member will give you your money back if you book 7 nights vacation, after 5 nights spent in that hotel? I'm sorry to say but I'm ashamed of the behavior that you had in the reception! but this is live in romania and anything is possible! thank you and wait on us as I'm sure you enjoyed our hotel!
