We stayed at the Swiss hotel for two nights during the rocket shelling in Lviv when the whole city had limited access to electricity, hot water and Wi-Fi. This hotel had it all. Although the bomb shelter across the road was locked, the doorman showed us the wine cellar inside the where we could hide during civil defense siren (thankfully we did not have to use it). The layout is a bit complicated to the rooms and restaurant, where decent breakfasts are served.

That was our first time in Ukraine. Our friend recommended staying in the Swiss Hotel. We are glad we listened to his suggestion :) The staff was friendly and polite. Such as our Ukrainian language is pretty basic, the English-speaking staff was very helpful. The rooms are clean and cozy, with elegant interiors.

They offer a continental breakfast in their restaurant Valentino, as well as their well-known buffet, which are really popular and have a waiting list. The breakfast was one of the best with a wide range of options. The restaurant itself is really nice too, they have a roof terrace, where you can enjoy dinner with a beautiful sunset. Special thanks to the waiter Nazar for his great service and to sommelier Oleg, who showed us the wine basement with the special wine selection they offer.

The hotel is right in the city center - a couple of minutes walk from Rynok Square. There are parking spots available.

Surely the place for our next stay in Lviv!

We liked the Swiss hotel very much! It was our first time in Lviv, and we are happy that we chose this hotel to stay. The location is very comfortable - everything is within walking distance. Very nice SPA, the food, and the service. Special thanks to the staff from my husband, that they helped him to prepare a surprise for my Birthday! Additionally, they congratulated me with a dessert and prosecco :) That was really nice of them :)

Very beautiful and cozy area the hotel is located in. It's in the city center and is filled with history around. You just need to walk out of the hotel and you'll dive straight into the deep and reach cultural life, and the town will welcome you to discover its secrets :)

And when you come back to the hotel, you are safe here from the crowded streets, and you can have a rest full of comfort. We always felt welcome here, the staff does its best for that. And such standard things as room service, towel change, etc. are quick, invisible, and don't disturb you at all, but still on a high level.

The Valentino restaurant they have on the first floor - is the best one in the town, in my opinion. Especially loved their wine selection. Sommelier Oleg knows what he does and is really helpful.

And the bread! Just Oh my God! They make it themselves and it's delicious! I 100% recommend staying here!

Swiss hotel is very clean and cosy and more importantly staff is super friendly and carrying. Every time I stay I have a feeling I’m visiting some friends in the city, not staying at a hotel. I’ve been provided with extra help many times to resolve my logistic and other issues.
I stayed in every 5 star and some 4 star hotels in this city, and this hotel is my top choice.

Our stay in the Swiss Hotel was just perfect! Starting with the location, and finishing with service and the food in their restaurant - everything is on the high level. The price reflects the quality. Helpful and friendly staff, cozy and comfortable rooms very nicely decorated. The hotel has everything you might need. For me it was helpful - the beauty salon "Maska" they have. It was very useful to get ready before the romantic dinner on their roof terrace :) Special thanks to the girls for the makeup and the hairstyle! I recommend it! The administrator Mykhaylo booked us a room via Instagram - so easy :) We are very thankful for the service!

We organized bussiness trip in Lviv and we were amazed how kind staff are working in Lviv Swiss hotel. Despite of that feeling food quality was absolutely premium. We ordered classical music too. Music was that good, that sometimes it grabbed from interesting conversations. This place completly won our symnpathys, we are sure we gonna come back here. Very recommend!

We have stayed here for 7 nites. Each day has been perfect. Receptionist was very gracious and spoke English. Very helpful. Our rm is on the main road. Noise is slight. Do feel the bed jiggle a little with passing of tram. Linens are perfectly white- bed comfy. Room is decent size. Bathroom a bit small but doable.
Having the Valentino restaurant is a great advantage.
You cannot go wrong with this hotel. Great location and nice staff.

This is the 3rd time I have stayed at this hotel. A year ago I stayed or 7 nites. This time, one year later I stayed for total for 6 nites. It’s nice to know some hints don’t change. Still wonderful crisp white sheets, most charming manager and everyone was kind, helpful and served with a smile. Because there were three of us we reserved a suite. Very comfortable and spacious enough. The breakfast was fresh and lots of choices.

We have just spent a two night stay in possibly the least convenient hotel accommodation I've ever experienced, topped off by the realisation that we have basically been fobbed off the entire time.

I'll start with the positives:

1. The mattress and pillows were comfortable and sheets good quality.
2. There is a 20% discount to eat and drink in the very nice restaurant Valentino who share the building, and our meal here was fantastic.
3. Some Staff can converse in English. The older doorman chap was very helpful on our arrival.
4. Decent soft headboard.
5. Central location.
6. Quiet room location in rm 29.

The negatives for us were:

1. We were initially presented with room 26. This is a twin room, when we had booked a double, and also only has a window which opens into the the restaurant area, with three tables directly outside. We did a test and You could hear conversations of people outside. The kind porter took our luggage to us and advised us to request a change as soon as possible if we were dissatisfied, as the hotel was fully booked for the night and guests were arriving and filling the rooms fast. We did this as suggested. Some other reviews have noted that rm 26 was not what they had booked so this is clearly a ploy. They dump you into the wrong booking and if you don't bother complaining then the onus is on you as the guest. Ridiculous. So if they offer you rm 26 first then you know that you are the joke guest. The 11 day stay guests who reviewed rm 26 were clearly not paying with their own money...

2. The second room presented, which illustrates again that we were effectively not valued customers for this hotel, was room 29. On an initial glance, whilst so small a double bed barely fit the room the bed area alone must have been less than 8m2, likely 6m2 - it was a double room and the window openined into a light well outside, so we accepted thinking it would be OK for a two night stay. This was not to be the case.

3. The bathroom for room 29 has an odd oval bath, with a shower head extending from tap level. This had limited reach, so you could not stand for a shower. Sitting for a shower was not much better, as the shower temperature fluctuated from hot to cold constantly. The longer you stretched the tubing the colder or hotter the water became, which made moving further than a foot or two away from the taps impossible. This has been raised in other reviews and clearly and deliberately not remedied.

4. Having a bath was only marginally better, however the depth of the tub meant if you sat back, water gushes out behind you, flooding the floor which although has a hole in the floor, the sheer volume of water and lack of appropriate fall to channel stands no chance of getting there. As there is nowhere to put your clothes either, with limited surface areas in the bathroom, if you have left any clothes on the floor, they become soaked. This has been raised in several other reviews and clearly and deliberately not remedied.

5. Also, all hot moist air generated in the bathroom is not removed by a normal mechanical vent, but provided with a passive vent which sends the moist air into the bedroom, there is a grille between the two rooms. There is a access hatch in the wall that opens all by itself frequently. In conjunction with the bathroom hatch, and just reiterates the slapdash nature of the hotels true nature.

6. To complete, the bathroom sealant and tile grout around the bath was in bad condition, and looked stained. There were heavy limescale deposits on the tap spouts so they clearly aren't cleaned often. We know from the lobby video that the bathrooms in the other rooms appear better kept.

7. The room was very hot. Heating generally seems to run at high temperatures in Ukrainian hotels (stayed in 4 so far on our cross country trip). There is Air con in the room, but it does not work for winter and the actual device was either broken or deliberately off. Same as most in our experience, although the other hotels were considerably cheaper and not 4 star rated. The excessive heat and lack of airflow meant sleep was near impossible during the first night.

8. But this is ok, as you can open the window right? No, to our dismay, the area directly outside the room is a designated smoking area, even though the room is non smoking. At any random time, day and night, you might have staff and other hotel guests outside your room smoking, and the smell of smoke in a small hot room has a habit of lingering for a while. Very unpleasant for a non smoker. We made a special trip to Lviv forum to buy a small fan to get some air movement so we could actually get a nights sleep.

9. The hotel does not seem to be fully non smoking, and we received a 'fresh' towel which reeked of smoke. Luckily this served some purpose as it was immediately used as a mop for the flooded floor from our bath experience.

10. Lastly on the room - some people may not be bothered, but business users or people with mobile phones or tablets will find plugs difficult to get to. We were only able to locate one behind the left bedside cabinet, which meant you had to pull out the cabinet to use it. The others we found required you to crawl under the desk to plug anything in. The only which was easy to access was in the bathroom!

11. Moving outside of the room. The hallway exits onto the smoking area, and by the smell, also a rubbish store area, as both days it smelled of rotten food and smoke. Very nice combination.

12. The hotel advertises sauna and steam room facilities - this may have been nice to use if it were not locked! Another (potentially topless) couple were in the first room, and had put the security chain on for some reason, and were very upset that others might want to use the room. Maybe there was some sort of private booking system the reception failed to advise us of? In any event, having a lockable steam room is both weird (why lock it??? What are you doing in a steam room to need complete privacy?) and unsafe. You would probably die in there if the generator caught fire and could not open a hot metal catch. On both counts, we were entirely put off from thinking of using this space. Really demonstrates that the staff don't follow basic rules for guest safety and security. Another one is that lack of bag tags in the left luggage. The George Hotel has a official system which shows they want to get this stuff right.

12. In our opinion, the breakfast spread was the worst of all hotels we have visited in Ukraine. Only a couple of items had labels to say what they were, and much of what was on offer were desserts, including tiramisu. Appreciate the hotel caters for many nationalities, but basic items like bread and eggs were poorly provisioned. We made the decision to go to Lviv Croissants just around the corner on the second day, which we found nicer. The first time we have ever not taken the included breakfast...

13. On the Swiss hotel website, a shuttle to the airport or train station is advertised, explicitly, offering a Mercedes Viano car for 300 Uah. Knowing that this was about 200 uah overpriced, we wanted the convenience and a better quality car to transport us to the station (we paid 100 Uah for a tiny taxi into Lviv from the station upon arrival so a better car was deemed worth the excessive cost). It was booked for 10pm at reception, and we left our luggage with the hotel during the day whilst we went out.
We came back about 30 mins before the taxi was scheduled to take us, and had a very expensive mint tea (140) whilst we waited (the way the receptionist offered the beverages was as though it would be gratis, but alas not).

10pm came and went and we were still sitting in the lounge. We went over to the desk, the girl we spoke to about booking was mid leaving, told us our taxi was here. But we had seen it pull up 5 mins or so earlier so the question really is.. When were they going to tell us? We also had to remind them they still had our luggage? Then, expecting The advertised Viano cab, found a car outside not unlike our first taxi! We could have saved ourselves 200uah and walked 20m up to the main road where they all sit and wait, clearly what the staff just did. This is technically a serious breach because the Swiss Hotel have kept a whole chunk of the money since the normal cab would only have cost them about 80-100. What happened to the rest of our money?

13. At no point were we asked whether we were having a good stay, even at departure there was zero interest as to whether we were comfortable or if anything could be improved. No one said goodbye or thanks for the business. As a hotel which seems to value it's trip advisor rating, they certainly don't physically demonstrate the same level of interest. I get that we are in the wrong country for service with a smile but with all their pomp and bluster about how good they are, their customers simply deserve better.

14. The hotel is divided by the restaurant which is open to outside customers. There are two secure doors to prevent access but this just slows down entry since you always need the room card to get about.

15. The foyer is too small and it was difficult to get through the door with our luggage on the first day.

16. The restaurant should be viewed as separate from the hotel for review purposes. They were very different experiences.

17. The roof terrace is heavily advertised and is lit up from the road, looking great. We were told it was closed with no explanation given.

Whilst we sat in the lobby waiting for the taxi, we watched the rolling photos of the nice rooms you could get if you booked the hotel, and checking the indicative photos of a 'standard' room on the Swiss hotel website that it was crystal clear we were completely fobbed off the whole time. Unsurprisingly, room 29 was not featured on the promo film, and plenty of 'standard' rooms were far nicer. Rm 26 was, only once though...

Perhaps it was because we paid a relatively cheap rate for our stay (£47 gbp per night) that we were presented with such poor accommodation and given no attention by staff, whatever the reason, it was crystal clear that the Swiss Hotel did not value us as guests or visitors to Lviv.

I would strongly suggest anyone tempted to book either considers paying for a better class of room at a higher costs to avoid the possibility of being ignored and fobbed off with bad rooms as we were, or goes elsewhere. We noted that Lviv has a wealth of hotels and choosing our accommodation to celebrate Christmas (we stayed for UK Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) was difficult with so much choice, but genuinely wish that we had made a different selection on this occasion.

You may ask why we didn't raise this with the hotel but the bottom line is that no one demonstrated the remotest bit of interest in us or our stay, and we didn't want to waste our time in such a beautiful city complaining and knowing we would have to fight to get any better as other reviewers have (if even available given it was fully occupied). Far better to record their first one star and make it so factual that if you stay and also aren't happy then you might not feel that shoddy service means a three star. It doesn't and it's time that Swiss Hotel got a wake up call.

Dear Alex J, Thank you very much for choosing Swiss- Hotel. We appreciate you taking the time to share your impressions regarding your recent stay with us. We are very regret to learn that you were not satisfied with your visit. Please be kindly informed that as a result of changes in our inventory the size of Standard rooms in our hotel now may vary from 23 sq. m. to 32 sq. m. Let us kindly note that the price is the same for the smallest and the biggest room in the category. Now we are in process of updating an information on all official sources. Of course, we will put notes regarding your preferences to your profile in our system to avoid the reoccurrence, but we have to note that the size, view and floor of the room cannot be guaranteed. We will definitely provide you with bigger room for the future if we have the opportunity to do it. We sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you’ve experienced during your stay and we hope that you will give us another chance to welcome you in Swiss-Hotel! Kind Regards, Nataliya Bondarenko.

It is difficult to understand why this hotel is so highly rated. The room we stayed in was extremely shabby. To be fair, the bed was comfortable and bathroom was immaculate, but the overall feel was unpleasant. Very, very dim lights, dark carpet that had seen much better days, faded and old bedspread with matching headboard that I didn't want my head touching, unmatched chairs that didn't look clean; generally speaking it wasn't a room in which to feel relaxed. The worse part of all was that we checked out, drove away and realized that my iPhone was still in the room. Mysteriously, it disappeared by the time we called reception to say it was there, then returned to look for it in person. Sticky fingers? Someone in the hotel had to have taken it. Exactly whom is not certain, but I would not recommend staying where housekeeping or reception personnel are not honest. Very disappointing.
