The surrounding rocky coast is on agentle incline to the sea, and many of the apartments at the Splendid Golden Rocks Istria afford spectacular views over the Adriatic Sea, as well as over Pula's charming seafront promenade - Lungomare. The Splendid Golden Rocks resort is idyllically situated in the popular area generally known as 'Podstinje' or 'Golden Rocks' in Croatia. The Splendid Golden Rocks Croatia resort attracts families in particular, because of its child-friendly policies, and perfect seaside location. At the hilltop of the tourist complex is Fort Bourgignon, which dates back to the Austro-Hungarian period, and is a magnificent example of architecture and history which guests find fascinating.

The complex is very come unless, lacks maintenance everywhere, but the apartments are comfortable and have everything you need for a comfortable vacation, although the mattresses are not too comfortable. They have no cleaning service. There is a change of towels every 3 days and sheets once a week. The pool is saltwater, in good condition and is paid for umbrellas and loungers (between 12 and 15 Euros per day). There's a pretty complete supermarket. They have more than one restaurant. We were at the Bambo and they served us very well and the food was good and at a good price.

I was a bit worried after I read reviews of this place but I found it clean, well-equipped and convenient. The bay offers the most amazing sunsets, there’s a bus stop for the Pula bus just outside the gates, a small supermarket on site and 2 or 3 places to eat without leaving the site. The reception was open 24 hours a day. As a single traveler, I felt perfectly safe on site at all times.
There’s a nice pool for kids or sunbathing (you pay for loungers but I’ve been used to doing that in Italy and Greece) but when the sea is just below, I rarely bothered.

There’s no denying that architecturally the site is very 1980s eastern bloc but it’s well maintained, clean and I’m rather fond of modern concrete! Beware though. There are two companies who own apartments here. The ones under the Horizont brand don’t seem so well maintained. My Splendid apartment was large for a single person! The bedroom had 3 beds, wardrobe and drawers with a safe and access to a balcony with dining table, chairs and a clothes dryer. The kitchen living room had a sod, TV and dining table as well as a well equipped kitchen area. I only really used the kettle but there was washing up liquid and kitchen roll etc. the bathroom had a shower with good water pressure and a boiler to ensure constant hot water. There was a hairdryer too.

I got a bus a bus from Pula to Rovinj for the day very easily and had a couple of boat trips where we saw dolphins.

Booked for roughly 5 nights in July 2022, we paid more for a sea view and thank goodness we did. The views of the bay are amazing and we even saw a dolphin one evening which was the highlight of our visit.

The good:
Great views IF you paid for it
Has a pool and easy access to the rocky beaches and has some snorkelling (ok selection of fish, don't expect barrier reef!), watch out for jellyfish.
If you pay for breakfast (roughly Euro 10 pp and 5 for kids) its really good.
They have a golf cart that can help with luggage if needed.
They have a lock up hut for baggage if you need to wait for airport.
Free childcare if you need it, leave kids over 4 years old if you need a few hours to go sunbathing etc. Special shout out to Thea who our daughter loved! Very good with kids and knows how to draw trucks!
Has a gym, couldn't find it.
Nice bars at other resorts! Need to walk to them.
We had a kitchen and were able to cook!
Place is dog friendly!
Great area to run along the coastline for miles!

The bad:
Place is run down! Needs investment but that would most likely raise the prices, so its a bitter sweet thing. We paid roughly 650 Euros for 5 nights and paid extra for the views which isn't that bad but this place is stuck in the 80s! Trust me when I say this, some people booked places and the only view they had was a parking lot.
Place is massive and was completely full! You almost need a car to get from one end to the other.
Have an outdated horrible mini child's golf game area that is on the map but not operational at all. Why even advertise it? lol
You have to pay to use sun loungers, that's unacceptable because they don't provide ANY place to even hang your towels.
Went to this CASTLE / FORT area at the top of the resort - on the map and it was littered with rubbish all over, why the resort wont clean that is beyond me.

We simply love staying here. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Nice location, not any luxury but it’s nice and clean! We have been here 3 times, and we enjoy it every time :-) the pool is saltwater and the sea is all the way around. The rooms have air conditioning.

The village is located on the sea, very close to the center of Pula, and includes apartments of different sizes with terraces.
The rooms are equipped with sheets, towels and some crockery.
The Resort boasts of being a pet-friendly structure - it is among the top ones in Pula - but it is not at all able to define itself as such, due to a lack of staff:
- the stretch of beach reserved for dogs is minimal, without shade and rather dirty.
There is no maintenance of the bathing areas;
- There are no external showers in which you can rinse yourself or do the same with your dog;
- Despite the daily fee paid for the animal, the apartment is never cleaned during the stay - something that has never happened during previous stays in Croatia, not even on a camping trip -;
It is understandable to receive mediocre service but not at a price of a medium-high level structure.

We stayed at the hotel splendid for a week August 2020.

The first thing you need to understand about this resort is that it isn’t your standard hotel accommodation. I would liken it to booking centre parcs or Haven in the UK. It is very much designed to be self catering in every sense of the word. You wouldn’t expect the cleaner to come in an clean your lodge at centre parcs and it is the same here. Many tourists drive here and come with everything they need for a self catering holiday. Us brits on a package holiday don’t come prepared for that. The resort does supply washing up liquid, towels, and toilet roll but once this runs out you go buy your own - just as you would in the UK.

The apartments / chalets are clean, basic and roomy. Some minor points, batteries didn’t work in the air con, batteries didn’t work in the safe but these are minor things that are easily resolved if visitors inform the resort staff.

The resort is tired, we are in the midst of a global pandemic and hasn’t really opened for the summer so it isn’t shown in its full potential.

Saying that the pool is excellent, the pool restaurant superb, as to is the additional restaurant near the supermarket. The supermarket whilst small has the necessities.

I would recommend a car, we got by without one but if you did want to do a full shop you will need a car or a taxi. Car hire is significantly cheap at 300kn per day. Return taxi to Pula was 200. The restaurants outside the resort are all fantastic. The food is divine, we never had a bad meal and a family of 4 cost ÂŁ50 to feed most nights with drinks and puddings.

The coast line is beyond beautiful and you will be treated to stunning sun sets. Bring rock shoes for the beach and we invested in beach cushions as it’s uncomfortable without them. These were also very cheap.

There is so much to do, we did the inflatable aqua park, pedalo’s, jet skiing, snorkelling, Pula adventure park, Pula town is beautiful. We could go on and on. The Kn to the £ is pretty good so for the Brits this is working out to be a cheap break.

We have travelled the world and stayed on some amazing hotels, I am a self confessed holiday snob and I have to say this has been one of our best holidays. We had a wonderful time.

The decor and rooms are very old and run down. It smells bad and disinfecting the surfaces does not eliminate the smell. There's mold in the shower, the fridge is dripping and rusty. The entire plant makes a similar impression. The pool is small, loungers cost 15€(!) per day. There are few stairs into the water, access via stones is dangerous. The beach smells like urine. The buildings are old and shabby. The 'gym' is tiny and disgusting. The grounds are hardly illuminated in the evening.

The rooms are spacious and everything was very clean and disinfected. The breakfast Buffett (8am-10am) was good value and tasty.
The restaurant by the pool is nice enough. The views are stunning and when we went down to the beach (solid rock beach) we saw a brown Mediterranean jellyfish and lots of comb jellyfish which was interesting. The pool is okay. You have to pay extra for the sun beds around the pool.
It doesn’t have much accessible by foot outside the resort but is a very short drive into Pula town.
Free parking and WiFi.
The actually resort is a bit worse for wear and looks dated. It looks like it was built when package holidays became a thing and hasn’t been updated since. We stayed for 2 nights. I wouldn’t want to stay longer than maybe 4 nights here.
It was however really good value for money and the kids really enjoyed the pool.

We travelled during the COVID-19 pandemic and unfortunately had to quarantine when we returned home but I would not let that put be off going back to Pula or another area of Croatia. The hotel staff were amazing and looked after all guest well. We felt safe and comfortable with what the hotel had put in place.

Location: the setting of the hotel is out of this world. The views over the sea are something out of a travel book. The hotel is a bit way out but you can easily walk to a few bars and restaurants within 20-25 minutes.

Pool: beautiful, warm, spotlessly clean. Downside you do have to pay for the sun beds. It’s between 35-40 kuna per bed.

Pool bar: great food, great service and reasonably priced.

Room: decent size, spotlessly clean on arrival, amazing views. Downside, there was no cleaning for the week we were there. We did get clean towels but the rest of the cleaning was down to us which is something you don’t really want to do on holiday. The balcony did get dirty with pigeon/seagull droppings which we had to clean ourselves. Air con is extra but worth the cost.

The resort is a little dated but it adds to its charm and it fits in well with the area. I would definitely return and recommend to others. All in all we had a great time.

The apartment was just fine and so was the service. We had paid extra for the ocean view which was worth every penny. Of course the apartment was somewhat worn but it was clean and spacious.

The two stars lacking are from the surroundings. We came to enjoy a sunny summer holiday by the sea with a pool as an extra bonus. The beach was filthy! Absolutely disgusting in every way with used diapers on the beach and garbage in the water. The sea we could access from close to our apartment was fine though.
The pool was a mix of salt water and chlorine hurting both eyes and skin. Horrible.

And why not make non-smoking balconies? Every meal we had was interrupted by neighbors smoking away ruining that for us too.

Dear Ms Ditte, Thank you for sharing your feedback on your stay at Spledind Golden Rocks Resort. We are glad to read that you were pleased with the accommodation, the service, the cleanliness, and the picturesque views overlooking the sea. However, it surprises and makes us sad to read that you found the surroundings not clean, as we put a lot of emphasis on keeping the grounds nice and garbage free, which we are usually very praised for. We would like to note, that the salt water pool is much healthier for the skin, especially the more sensitive ones, and equally safe as the chlorine water. We are sorry to read it wasn’t to your liking. With the hope to get another opportunity to welcome you, we are sending you our best regards. Splendid Golden Rocks Resort Team
