The hotel has no lifts and we were on the third floor so thank goodness a fit young fellow tourist helped us. Our first room was awful, poky, gloomy, terrible view. We discovered a leak in the bathroom so asked to move room and the second room was incomparably better. So it’s a real lottery as to what quality room you might get. If you want a good view, pay extra for the sea view rooms. At dinner the drinks service was very slow and poor. The location is great though and the view from the restaurant terrace was lovely.

Just returned from a fantastic 4 night break here. Good points: - sea view from room is stunning so worth paying extra - everywhere in hotel was spotless - view from restaurant when having breakfast and dinner was honestly stunning - we had several dinners and food was reasonable. A few options so always found something decent but the view when eating had to be one of the best views in the area which made food taste better! - well worth paying for half board which was ridiculously good value - staff on reception, bars and restaurant all very helpful - we enjoyed pre dinner drinks on the attractive terrace every night looking into the sea - perfect location as a very easy bus to Old Town and any other area onwards - Lapad is an great base and bars and restaurants are a very short walk - it was very hot but air con in room was good - beds very comfortable and we enjoyed good sleeps in this peaceful hotel What could be better: - the beach is pebbles so a sunbed is pretty essential but around £7 a day. Would be good if hotel guests could at least have a reduction - hairdryer in room was not powerful enough - there is no lift but staff appeared from nowhere to carry our case to 3rd floor so not really a problem We recommend Hotel Vis as a very good value base for visit to Dubrovnik.

really loved the Holiday we had in Dubrovnik and we had an exceptional time. The Hotel was a little tired and needed some revamping. Older type fittings in the rooms, flaky paintwork, strange locking system on patio doors , no room safe ......... but the view from our room was incredible , looking straight across the bay at the most incredible sea colour, boats and the stunning Croatian landscape. beyond The staff without exception were just incredibly friendly and helpful always smiling and receptive right through from the main hotel reception, the restaurant (inc the chef's), the bar staff and not forgetting the lovely, hard working lady who cleaned our room each day with such a big smile on her face Well done to the staff of the Vis Hotel in particular the girls on reception, Vesna to get a special mention as she always asked how our day had been and took an interest in how our holiday was going, a true star and ambassador for the Hotel They all made our holiday very enjoyable and very memorable Thank You

Although the hotel hasn’t got a pool you can use the small one at the hotel across the road for a fee. But hotel Vis is right on the pebble beach so we swam in the sea which was lovely, but there are a few steps to climb to get to and from the hotel to the beach. The breakfast items that should have been warm were always cold and when items ran out it was a while before being refilled. But other than that breakfast was ok and lovely to sit outside looking over the bay. Our room was very nice and very clean. Free safe too. Hairdryer, fridge, but for me the down side was no kettle in the room. I like to have a tea when I first get up and when I get back to the room in then evening or after a day out/at beach. I asked at reception if they had one I could use but they didn’t. I can’t understand why they had everything else but no kettle. Staff at reception were very friendly. I would stay here again but for me big issue is no kettle and cold breakfast. But it’s in a lovely spot looking over the bay and a bus stop just outside.

Booked this hotel purely to use as a base to explore, would say it is a budget hotel for the money, it served a purpose for us, there are no lifts, pool or entertainment if you are looking for these, it’s location is great the bus stop is just across the road and a quick journey into Dubrovnik, the beach is just stones not a beach but the sea is lovely and blue, the food is not bad but not great either, not a great choice at dinner, tea/coffee would be an added bonus but then they wouldn’t make money on their extortionate prices on drinks, a bottle of water was over £4 needless to say we didn’t have any more after that, breakfast was fine but no toaster which we found a bit odd, there was supposed to be a free safe but we didn’t have one in our room, tv channels are awful but bizarrely there is Netflix, I would stay here again for the same kind of holiday as it was cheap and cheerful.

Ground floor Sea view room was obscured by a boiler house, so paying extra for sea view was pointless. We braved breakfast only once- as anticipated the quality of food was very poor, no fresh coffee etc. decor and comfort in rooms and communal areas need updating, bathrooms cramped and smelly. Electricity kept tripping when the bathroom temperate rose (while using shower etc). We requested a different room but the staff were unhelpful and dismissive. We found the local beach pleasant and the old town is 10 minute bus ride away. I would highly recommend paying the extra and staying at Dubrovnik Palace as I did a few years ago. The gap between the 5 and 3 star was wide and I would not recommend hotel Vis to anyone.

Want to be as even handed as possible, so here goes - one week for £570 each half board in a beautiful, well serviced by public transport spot - Hotel clean, tidy, as well maintained as it can be. - Transport to hotel was around an hour and jet2 made it hassle free. - Air con managed to keep the room cool even when it was 31 degrees outside - Staff are pleasant and welcoming, especially housekeeping and reception - they advised two days to turn round some laundry and actually did it in the same day - The beach is right outside and is quite sought after - ‘beaches’ can sometimes mean tarmaced areas with loungers. - Free wifi free in rooms. - Nearby - bus stop to the old town is right outside and takes ten minutes to get to the walls. - You can book day trips to Montenegro and/or Serbia from the hotel which is pretty awesome as well as all the GoT stuff being a ten minute bus ride away - The walk way across the bay is lovely On the down side… - no lifts could be a pain for some. - The food was the biggest thing for us - while there is ample quantity, the quality is very much 2-3 star. It’s hard to do buffet food for loads of guests all eating at different times and at the same time some of it was pretty bland and uninteresting; it felt like mealtimes were pretty functional. There are lots of alternatives nearby. - Sun loungers aren’t included in the price - No kettle/drink making in room - In sum - we were pretty happy that we got a within-our-budget break somewhere beautiful. When prices come close to doubling in school holiday periods, we wouldn’t have been so pleased and the food would have been a major let down Top tips - the Dubrovnik card is worth it for a week; it pays for itself if you take a couple of bus rides from hotel to vis to the old town and do the city walls walk/inner walls and a museum. It also includes 2 free passes for the suburban route to kavtat, which isn’t essential but quieter than the crush of old Dubrovnik. - there are lots of street cats 🐈 - You will be able to spot UK tourists spluttering ‘but… but…i was first in the queue!!’ at bus stops and attractions - Everything within the city walls is more expensive as it can’t be driven in (hence, a cappuccino and a fanta can be £10)

You cannot beat this hotel for the money that you pay for it. Seeing the other reviews I was sceptical upon arrival, granted the hotel is slightly dated but it’s one of the cleanest hotels I’ve stayed in. We didn’t have the best view from our room overlooking the hotel driveway but it was quiet throughout the night, I’d recommend paying extra for the sea view rooms as this hotel is right on a pebble beach which we spent most days when we weren’t exploring. The hotel staff were so lovely and helpful , from the front of house to the maids they are all very friendly and happy. The promenade is about a 5 minute walk away so great for happy hour mid day cocktails and the bus to the old town is just across the road of which they sell bus tickets in the local shop around 30kn for 24 hour ticket. The hotel excursion we did to Mostar wasn’t amazing, the waterfalls are a must see and Mostar is a beautiful town and very cheap, two large pizzas, and two beers costing less than £18, however the bus we were put on for this excursion didn’t have great air con and the tour guide was asking to use Google maps of other people upon arrival to Mostar. The food at the hotel is great for a budget hotel, a toaster would be a great addition as having bread and butter with your bacon and eggs was a first for me. The evening food was also great but we weren’t served any drinks free of charge you have to pay for these in the bar. All the beaches you can bring your own food and drink as no beach is privately owned. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel for elderly people who struggle to get around as there is no lift and Dubrovnik in general has a lot of steps and climbs, not a problem for most though although taking your luggage up 2 flights of stairs isn’t great. To reiterate though this hotel is a budget hotel and was excellent for the money paid for the holiday id highly recommend if you want somewhere to use a base for your exploring. Highly recommend doing the tours in the old town, specifically the sunset kayaking. To make the hotel better I would have a working draft beer pump, at least one glass of wine with evening meals and a toaster in the breakfast hall, other than that it was spot on! Thank you for having us!

Stayed for a week in middle of May. Hotel room great, lovely shower and location fantastic. Bus service from outside hotel to old town for 12 knr. Bars and restaurants within ten minutes and plenty to do in the area, Dubrovnic is fantastic. Rooms were very hot. Disappointed to find that despite temperature of 25 degrees it was still 'too cold' for aircon to be operational. This came on on second to last day though temperature hadn't changed. Hotel was let down by food, breakfast same each day, and tepid at best, even when we waited for it to be replenished it was still not warm. Some mornings no fresh bread and when requested was told none available as French had eaten it all. Evening meal choices ok but despite paying for half board we chose to eat out after two attempts as food was always cold. There was enough food on offer but it was just never hot. However, on the last morning we did find something warm, sadly this was yoghurt!! It wouldn't take much effort to make this a great hotel, hot food should not be hard to serve.
