Hotel Vis appears to be a mixed bag for visitors, with its spotless rooms and beachfront locale often earning praise from guests seeking a picturesque setting. Despite some disappointments regarding room amenities and security, the daily housekeeping contributes to the overall cleanliness that many find commendable.
While opinions on value and service vary, with some guests finding the staff friendly and others noting unprofessionalism, the hotel's proximity to scenic beaches and promenades is consistently appreciated, even as the absence of an elevator is a drawback for some.

Detailed Reviews
Hotel was spotlessly clean, from the bedrooms, bathroom and communal areas, beds were comfy and fresh linen every day
Staff were friendly and helpful .
There is no lift in the hotel and I wouldn't recommend it for people with mobility problems. There are stairs everywhere, even down to the beach .
The beach is a pebble beach, which we didn't mind at all as you don't get sand everywhere, the sea is gorgeous and very safe to swim in, even children with armbands. You will need beach shoes and they charge you for sunbeds , which is a bit disappointing, as you are a guest in the hotel.
Lapad is beautiful and we went on a 3 island boat trip, which was wonderful, children go free.
Food, breakfast was OK, not much choice and evening meal wasn't great, the salad bar, didn't have extras like olives or ham , it was very basic , but there are plenty of good quality restaurants around ..
I would definitely come back to this hotel, get a room on a lower ground floor and just book bed and breakfast
Dubrovnik is stunning

I don’t get some of the reviews, we went expecting a good value hotel in a very good location with easy access to the beach and local bus to the old town and that’s what we got (and better than what I was expecting). We arrived early to a very polite receptionist who advised our room was ready and asked if we needed assistance. We had upgraded to a sea view (definitely worth it) and the room had the air conditioning on, it was a good size and spotless and house keepers visited every day. We had breakfast every morning (5) and had ample choice and food was being continuously delivered to the service area. Sitting right in the beach was a lovely start to the day. The beach is pebbled with beautiful clear waters to swim and snorkel. Plenty choice of restaurants in Lapad, local shop just down the road and buses are regular and only €2 to the old town. Turn left on the beach path and you’ll find little bays where you can see the full sun set (and another hotel bar) or turn right for a flat walk into Lapad. We really enjoyed our break in Dubrovnik and our stay at the Vis. Found all the staff polite and if we came back to Dubrovnik we would stay again as we both just loved the mixture of beach on the doorstep and ease of getting about. 2 happy guests, thank you x

Stayed here as a group of 5 friends after booking a bargain holiday of £259pp including flights and bags with jet2. Hotel is basic and could do with a facelift but considering amount of time spent in room does what matter??? Beds Extremely comfy and rooms cleaned daily hotel was spotless, ideal location on the beach with sea views, friendly staff and nothing too much trouble. Breakfast is standard European Buffett cuisine always left with a full belly before our days out. We booked half board and didn’t intend on eating in hotel at night but did on the first evening as had been out all day…sadly the food was very disappointing and we didn’t return but what didn’t suit us may suit others. Would without a doubt stay at this hotel in the future……it offers so much potential the views are amazing. Thanks for having us

You cannot beat this hotel for the money that you pay for it. Seeing the other reviews I was sceptical upon arrival, granted the hotel is slightly dated but it’s one of the cleanest hotels I’ve stayed in. We didn’t have the best view from our room overlooking the hotel driveway but it was quiet throughout the night, I’d recommend paying extra for the sea view rooms as this hotel is right on a pebble beach which we spent most days when we weren’t exploring. The hotel staff were so lovely and helpful , from the front of house to the maids they are all very friendly and happy. The promenade is about a 5 minute walk away so great for happy hour mid day cocktails and the bus to the old town is just across the road of which they sell bus tickets in the local shop around 30kn for 24 hour ticket. The hotel excursion we did to Mostar wasn’t amazing, the waterfalls are a must see and Mostar is a beautiful town and very cheap, two large pizzas, and two beers costing less than £18, however the bus we were put on for this excursion didn’t have great air con and the tour guide was asking to use Google maps of other people upon arrival to Mostar. The food at the hotel is great for a budget hotel, a toaster would be a great addition as having bread and butter with your bacon and eggs was a first for me. The evening food was also great but we weren’t served any drinks free of charge you have to pay for these in the bar. All the beaches you can bring your own food and drink as no beach is privately owned. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel for elderly people who struggle to get around as there is no lift and Dubrovnik in general has a lot of steps and climbs, not a problem for most though although taking your luggage up 2 flights of stairs isn’t great. To reiterate though this hotel is a budget hotel and was excellent for the money paid for the holiday id highly recommend if you want somewhere to use a base for your exploring. Highly recommend doing the tours in the old town, specifically the sunset kayaking. To make the hotel better I would have a working draft beer pump, at least one glass of wine with evening meals and a toaster in the breakfast hall, other than that it was spot on! Thank you for having us!

Just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel. So pleased I was not put off by the negative reviews, however it is a lottery as to which room you get. We were originally offered a room on the first floor which was very tired looking and our sea view was that of a tree! As I explained to the receptionist that we had requested a high floor room on booking and we were celebrating our Ruby wedding anniversary this was quickly changed to a top floor room with absolutely stunning views from the balcony, From then onwards we could not fault the hotel; the room was cleaned daily with fresh towels and the breakfasts and evening meals were adequate with lots of choice. If you are looking for a relaxing stay with the beach on your doorstep and plenty of bars and restaurants within a short walking distance and amazing views I would recommend this little gem. However I would like to add that this hotel does not have a lift so would not be suitable to anyone with walking difficulties.

We stayed here as a couple for a week at the beginning of August and we really enjoyed. Despite the issue we had at check in it was quickly resolved by the hotel manager and we were given the room we had paid for. We had a double sea view room and the view was stunning, the best view we’ve ever had on a holiday. The room was basic but spacious, the bed was comfortable and the air-con worked perfectly. Breakfast was lovely and had a great selection with a beautiful view. We enjoyed the private beach although we had to buy water shoes as the pebbles were pain getting in and out of the sea. We did miss not having a pool though so one day we went to Hotel Uvala across the road and paid something like 100 kuna to use their pool and spa facilities, we made the most of it and stayed there the entire day, the food was good there too! We also took an Uber to a few of the beaches around Dubrovnik and to the old town one evening. After reading not so great reviews about the hotel before we arrived we were anxious but overall we enjoyed our first holiday in 2 years and the hotel was good for us!

Ground floor Sea view room was obscured by a boiler house, so paying extra for sea view was pointless. We braved breakfast only once- as anticipated the quality of food was very poor, no fresh coffee etc. decor and comfort in rooms and communal areas need updating, bathrooms cramped and smelly. Electricity kept tripping when the bathroom temperate rose (while using shower etc). We requested a different room but the staff were unhelpful and dismissive. We found the local beach pleasant and the old town is 10 minute bus ride away. I would highly recommend paying the extra and staying at Dubrovnik Palace as I did a few years ago. The gap between the 5 and 3 star was wide and I would not recommend hotel Vis to anyone.

I had a 5 night break with my mother who is in her 80s. The hotel were able to accommodate us on the lowest floor and stored medications for her in the fridge behind reception which was very helpful. The location of the hotel is fantastic with beautiful views over the bay and a short bus ride to the old city. Yes the hotel is slightly dated and our room could have benefitted from additional sound proofing as it was part of an adjoining room but the rooms themselves are kept very clean and the staff are very welcoming and very helpful. There was a good range of food at the buffet breakfast and evening meal. Good range of restaurants located a short walk away and the views from sunset beach are beautiful.

really loved the Holiday we had in Dubrovnik and we had an exceptional time. The Hotel was a little tired and needed some revamping. Older type fittings in the rooms, flaky paintwork, strange locking system on patio doors , no room safe ......... but the view from our room was incredible , looking straight across the bay at the most incredible sea colour, boats and the stunning Croatian landscape. beyond
The staff without exception were just incredibly friendly and helpful always smiling and receptive right through from the main hotel reception, the restaurant (inc the chef's), the bar staff and not forgetting the lovely, hard working lady who cleaned our room each day with such a big smile on her face
Well done to the staff of the Vis Hotel in particular the girls on reception, Vesna to get a special mention as she always asked how our day had been and took an interest in how our holiday was going, a true star and ambassador for the Hotel They all made our holiday very enjoyable and very memorable
Thank You

Hotel Vis is in a bit of a 1970s time warp - but that’s no bad thing,
The rooms are basic, but impeccably clean and functional.
The wifi works even on the beach and at the bus stop outside!! Many a 4 & 5 star hotel fail on that point!!
Hotel parking was painless, with your own spot for the duration.
Breakfast buffet was generous, simple honest fare, with all the classics. As self proclaimed foodies we didn’t take the half board offer, but it didn’t look bad for mass catering !!
The hotel has a private beach, swim in the morning before breakfast, catch the #4 bus outside the door and head into Dubrovnik for the day, bus back take a swim and enjoy the sunset.
What more could you ask?
Remember to pack your water shoes as the beach is pebbles so getting in and out of the water was challenging.
So glad we didn’t pick an old city hotel, not least because of access issues - who wants to wheel their case though the crowded streets and struggle up and down cobblestone stairs ?!!
I would come back in a heartbeat, give it a try.
