We stayed here 2 nights. The host was wonderful and oriented us to the city using a map. The location is perfect for touring Dubrovnik.Be prepared to climb stairs. There are a lot of them but that is not unique to Villa Ragusa. The room was comfortable, soft mattress and the clanging of the bells every hour made it difficult to sleep (I need a quiet environment). I wish the host had left an am beverage like tea. I would recommend this for a stay in Dubrovnik.
Villa Ragusa is an ideal location - just 10 stairs down from the Buza Gate and 70 steps up from the Stradun. It sounds like a lot, but all of Dubrovnik involves a workout for your calves! The accommodations were perfect - clean, cozy and nicely appointed. We had #3 and #4, the single rooms with a shared bath - and our only negative is that we only had 2 nights there. Pero is gracious, helpful, informative and welcoming - just what we needed after our 20+ hour travel day!
As other reviews have said, this is indeed an excellent place: conveniently in the old town, clean, quiet, and with a thoughtful, helpful host, who was included in a Rick Steves video on Dubrovnik. He offered suggestions about where to eat, and had interesting stories to tell about the house. The single rooms (#3, and #4) are small and share a bathroom and fridge. The best room is #5 on the top floor. Being located towards the top of the old town, there are steps to get to it, and steps up to the rooms, so be warned. If you are arriving by ferry or airport shuttle at the Pile gate, instead of walking in through that gate and then climbed stairs to Villa Ragusa, walk beside the road that goes just outside the walls and enter through the Buza gate, which is very close to your destination,…
Villa Ragusa is perfectly located in the walled city of Dubrovnik. The owner, Pero is gracious and so helpful and he makes you feel at home in his Sobe. We have stayed there twice, and i am sure we will again.
We had room 5 on the top floor. The view was great! I was worried that it might be too hot since it was on the top floor and some of our other lodgings hadn't had AC. Not to worry, this room has AC! It was lovely! It is up several stairs and there are stairs throughout the old town of Dubrovnik so it's not great for someone with bad knees. We are young and able so the stairs were no problem. There is a fridge in the room so we could get yogurt for breakfast but unfortunately it hadn't been plugged in and it must take a while to get cold. The fridge never did get cold for us, but we were there only 1 night. Cleaners should ensure the fridge stays plugged in!! The location is excellent in Old Town and Dubrovnik is such a cool city. Wish we had more than half a day. Pero was a wonderful host! We would definitely stay here again!…
Pero is super nice and helpful, giving you a run down of Dubrovnik upon your arrival. He gives great tips for day trips. The room I stayed in was small, but comfortable and clean. It's in a great location near the Buza gate, so you don't have to lug your suitcases up or down too many stairs. I highly recommend.
Our stay at Villa Ragusa in Dubrovnik was wonderful. The location within the Old Walls is perfect, near the top of the steps at the north gate. Pero, is a warm & welcoming host, introducing us to Dubrovnik history, culture, layout, along with recommendations for restaurants, sights, & day trips. After just a day of living in this lovely 600 yr old home we felt like locals. Our second floor room was very clean, comfortable & pretty with plenty of storage space enabling us to settle in. We will definitely stay here again.
Villa Ragusa has just a handful of nice rooms, but it well located within the old city walls. It is on a narrow stairway up about 120 steps from the main street in the heart of the city. The stairs are a small price to pay to get the old city experience. Pero, the proprietor, is a wonderful character who warmly welcomes his quests goes well out of his way to share his love for this great city.
First off I'll say the Pero, the owner, is a fine host and is a fountain of information on Dubrovnik and things to do in the area. The next thing I'll mention is that there are a lot of steps in the "old town" and Villa Ragusa is one of the easiest to get to on arrival. It is just a few steps DOWN from the "middle gate", a little-known access point into the "old town". Pero met us there and when we arrived from the airport. He also arranged our transportation from the airport to Dubrovnik (€35) which made it so much easier. After our check-in and his insistence on a short shot of grappa, he showed us to our room. We did have to climb one set of stairs to get to our room but it wasn't a long staircase. The room was nice, enough room for two large bags, very comfortable with a good sized bathroom and a window to the stairs down to the plaza. Wi-Fi was strong as well as the T.V.reception with some English channels.…
Please stay here. If you want to stay in Old Town and you don't mind steps, this is the place to be. There are about 70 steps down to the Stradun (main promenade) but you are only a couple steps below the Buza Gate entrance. You can also walk up and around to the Ploče Gate entrance to avoid steps. The more mobile you are the easier it is to stay about anywhere in Old Town. As for the place, we stayed on the 2nd floor. The room was clean, well kept and the beds made every day. There was a bathroom in our room. This is a 600 year old building. Pero, the owner, will make you feel at home. He has lived in Dubrovnik his whole life and will be able to help you with recommendations for just about anything you want to do. If you plan ahead of time he may also be able to give you tours of neighboring countries Bosnia and Montenegro. I don't know if you'll find a nicer person in Croatia.…
