We very much enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel. The property is beautiful and extremely well kept. The staff were attentive and helpful, they even provided us with coffee and pastries at 5am before we left for our AM flight. We were in room 7, and I agree with past reviews- it’s beautiful and well appointed. My only complaints are the room’s ventilation- it got a bit warm and stuffy. A small fan is in the room but it wasn’t enough to circulate throughout the suite. The shape of the room basically prevents good airflow. On cool days and nights this is a non issue, but we certainly didn’t want to use the lovely fireplace while we were there! We also didn’t have the private, quite stay others have mentioned. Perhaps we were just victims of rude fellow guests- a lady sitting by the water feature talking loudly on her phone just outside our open window two nights in a row (the second night I gave her a dirty look from the window and she left :) guests speaking loudly in the main courtyard, doors slamming, likely all amplified by the need to keep the windows open. These weren’t major annoyances but we just didn’t get the tranquil stay I anticipated after reading past reviews. Maybe we were just there during a full house weekend- our third, last night was actually much quieter. In closing, please don’t hesitate to stay here but be aware it can be a bit noisy and potentially warm. Overall it’s a lovely property, I doubt you can do much better in Antigua!…
We stayed on this hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary, the hotel environment is great, colonial and modern. The room was great, bed extremely comfortable, the bathroom a piece of art. The breakfast was delicious. The location superb just around the corner form the arch ans several redtaurants. We really enjoyed our stay at San Rafael hotel.
The best hotel we've stayed at in a very long time. Our room was beautiful, the morning complimentary breakfast was delicious. The location is perfect and an easy walk to Antiqua's sites and restaurants. The staff friendly and helpful and even arranged for a Covid test in our own room.
Book your stay here now! This hotel is one of the best accommodations I have ever stayed in, in the world. The entire hotel staff exceeds all customer service expectations. Special shout out to Angelica, who made my boyfriend and I feel right at home as soon as we entered the gate of their property. We arrived a few hours before the scheduled check-in time of 3pm, and asked if there was any way we could get a room sooner than that. Without any hesitance, Angelica communicated and coordinated with her team to make sure a room would be available for us to check in sooner. The staff made us feel safe and secure. We had to buzz in each time we returned to the hotel, and someone was always available to open the secure door/gate for us. The amount of times my boyfriend and I kept coming and going, we thought that the staff would get annoyed with us, but each time they opened the gate with a warm, welcoming smile. The housekeepers also had such a pleasant attitude, and it is thanks to their speed and efficiency that we were able to check in earlier in the first place. The grounds keepers/landscapers do such a great job of making sure the hotel stays beautiful. It is obvious that they take pride and enjoy their work, as they genuinely seem happy while working, and always greet you upon passing. San Rafael did such a great job in making sure that all of our requests were met, and that any thing we needed assistance with, was not a bother at all. The rooms, artwork and furnishings around the hotel are all gorgeous. The furniture selections throughout the hotel make you wish you lived here. We absolutely loved staying in King Suite Room 7, which offered more privacy as it is away from the main courtyard, offered more space, and that we had a little door to enjoy the serene fountain and lush plants more closely. The shower/bath combination was divine with the best water pressure and hot water; it was a super relaxing end to our days of exploring. I couldn't believe the delicious breakfast options that were included in our room rate. The quality of the food and presentation at breakfast, combined with the service, was outstanding. The location of this hotel is also perfect. Just a short walk to all points of interest and to great restaurants. I loved that this was right by the Santa Catalina Arch because I wanted to grab early morning photography before the crowds started rolling in, without making a long trip to get there. If that is one of your goals on your visit to Antigua, then this is the place to stay. I also loved that even with San Rafael's central location, we still felt like we were in our own private secluded oasis. The team at San Rafael Hotel is a prime example of excellence in the hospitality industry. I would love to stay here again, and I HIGHLY recommend staying here during your time in Antigua.…
This hotel is simply amazing. It surpassed all of our expectations. Our colonial-style room was clean and gorgeous. Our breakfast, in the beautiful garden courtyard, was delicious (and included!). The service was impeccable. Everyone was super helpful and attentive. Great location as well, right next to the famous arch and within walking distance to a bunch of nice restaurants. I cannot recommend this place enough. Thank you so much Ronald. When I return to Antigua, I will definitely be staying here again.
The hotel is breathtaking and our experience here has been nothing short of amazing so far. Angelica, the person in charge of our check in and accommodations has gone out of her way to give us the best experience EVER. Angélica, muchas gracias por atendernos hoy en San Rafael. Su amabilidad y humildad nos hicieron sentir muy bienvenidos y apreciamos sinceramente el increíble servicio que nos brindó.
My experience at this hotel was beyond amazing. The owners and the people who work there are extremely kind and helpful. The room I had was to die for - very clean and the bed was super comfortable. The garden is a work of art. As a solo traveler, I feel like I picked the best hotel in terms of beauty, helpful staff, location and great food. They helped organized my transportation as well as getting someone to come to the hotel for my COVID test. Trust me, you won't regret staying here.
Absolutely beautiful courtyard & immaculately decorated rooms. Only about a block from Santa Catalina Arch. I had several requests, including a COVID test at the hotel the day before our travel back to the US. The staff responded promptly to my every request. Delicious breakfasts. I DEFINITELY recommend San Rafael, will stay there again upon my return without question. One small thing. Wi-fi is a bit spotty.
Extremely expensive compared to other hotels in Antigua (although I think you can probably pay much less than we did if you check around the different websites) That said we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The hotel has NO amenities such as a swimming pool or restaurant or a bar. The breakfast is included and you have a menu with a number of tasty alternatives and is served to you on your private little table for 2 outside your room in the beautiful open courtyard. The king size bed we had was extremely comfortable and the WiFi is the best I’ve found in Guatemala. The rain shower is perfect in the bathroom with plenty of hot water. There are only 7 guest rooms all on the ground floor and believe me, you won’t hear any noise from other guests.
This hotel was amazing all around from the moment you arrive till the moment you need to leave. Full of charm, authentic, amazing location, service was exceptional. We booked room number 7 which was very large and accommodating Beautiful and very private we loved it and recommend it.
