Having lived in Guatemala for 8 years I regularly pass through Antigua and have stayed in many different hotels, always searching for the best one. Sor Juana has become number 1 without doubt! Julio, the owner and manager, is an absolutely exceptional host. His genuine desire to provide the utmost experience for his guests is clearly what he loves to do. From the lovely scents to the exquisite rooftop garden, careful attention is given to every detail. Our breakfast was served with a variety of fresh produce from the hotel's garden. There were fresh figs from the tree in the courtyard, kumquat and lavender marmalade, a sprig of sage in the freshly made butter, and purple basil leaves in the eggs -- all from the rooftop garden. When we arrived on the rooftop patio for breakfast our places were already set. The service was perfect -- someone was always there to take our place or bring our next course. The location is great. It's a very short walk to any kind of cuisine you might desire, yet not right in the bustling center. We stayed in the king suite -- lots of space with tall ceilings and a courtyard. Very clean and tidy with comfortable couches and beautiful furniture. With only 6 rooms in the hotel, every room has its own unique touch. If you feel like making a fire in the fireplace ask for room #2.…
Absolutely gorgeous building. We stayed in the king suite. It even has its own little courtyard. The bed is pretty comfy too. We were the only ones staying here for the three days we booked. Breakfast was very well done too, with a beautiful rooftop terrace. There’s one young gal staff member who speaks some English that is around in the morning and early day, but that’s it. Not much English here in the late afternoon and evening, but we made it through without issue.
Awesome little and nice hotel, very close to the central park of Antigua, right in front of La Esquina del Jazz, which is a nice place to eat. Included breakfast was so good, and they started serving it at 7am, which is good so you can eat and then go out to continue with your trip, they dont hace parking on site, but 50 meters away there is a public parking which charges Q50 the night. And in Antigua, you dont need your car to move arround. Will come back here for sure!!
We last visited Sor Juana six years ago when attending a language school in Antigua. We were excited to return and we were not disappointed. The interior and ambiance of the hotel is excellent. The staff are very helpful. We were here for the "Burning of the Devil" traditional ceremony nearby. We able to walk to most historic attractions of Antigua. We can only anticipate when we will return.
We really enjoyed staying at the Hotel Sor for a week-long vacation in Antigua. This facility is in a good location on the edge of town but within an easy walk to the busy center of Antigua and to various other spots to eat, drink and sightsee. Hotel cleanliness is always a top issue for us and Hotel Sor Juana did an exceptional job maintaining our room and common areas to the highest standard. A highlight for us was having the included breakfast on the terrace with clear views of the surrounding volcanoes. The food was very fresh and tasty too. Last, but not least, the hotel staff was friendly and always willing to help. We speak very little Spanish, but they spoke enough English and we had no trouble communicating. The only minor issue was having to knock to get in the front door, but a staff member was always there promptly to say hola. On the other hand, it did give an added sense of security. Overall, we felt very welcome and comfortable at this hotel.…
Beautiful hotel with fantastic service. Great comfortable beds and sheets. Good breakfast and the gardens are pretty. The only thing that marred our experience was very insanely loud music from 10pm to midnight. Not sure if it was from the hotel or a nearby club but nonetheless be prepared for it. Loud firecrackers woke us up also.
Thank you to Julio for creating such a lovely little hotel. The care that you have put into your property is heart-infused and past-honoring. Immaculately clean, the bed was so very comfortable - a welcome space after tiring days exploring Antiqua. I loved the location and felt very safe being there. Certainly, my favorite spot was the rooftop terrace where I gazed at the stars plus drank my morning tea watching clouds pass the volcanoes and hills. The car service to and from Guatemala City was perfect plus all of the travel tour/advice through Elizabeth Bell Tours. I'm very much hoping to return to Antiqua, largely due to Hotel Sur Juana, and the "home" that I now have there. Many thanks for everything!
We were very pleased with our stay at the Sor Juana. Beautiful hotel in a historic setting. Lovely garden. We enjoyed our breakfast every morning on the roof top terrace with amazing views of the city and surrounding volcanoes. We also enjoyed a glass of wine there in the evening. The location is great, just a short walk to all of the main sites. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. We had a comfortable stay.
You cannot go wrong with this hotel! It's a 10-15 min walk to the Plaza Mayor but far enough to give you a relaxing and quiet stay. It's on the main avenue that will take you directly to the Plaza and along the way there are a half a dozen or more great restaurants! The staff was incredibly accommodating and they upgraded us to a suite without us asking! I don't eat many carbs or sugars and they gladly adjusted breakfast to suit my diet. We had a half day tour planned and were offered a sandwich for the day! Each morning theyighy incense in the lobby that wafts throughout the property that smells incredible! Definitely take breakfast on the rooftop for the beautiful views. The rooms are beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and full toiletries as well as a hair dryer and safe. If you appreciate Spanish colonial architecture and want a true feel of Antigua then do not pass this place up! …
Can't say enough about this wonderful place! From the beautiful rooms to the amazing roof top terrace (where we honestly spent most of our time in the hotel) to our gracious, flexible and accommodating host Julio, our 4 days there were just incredible! Breakfasts served on the terrace with rich and strong local coffee. If you have the opportunity to stay in Antigua, stay at Hotel Sor Juana - you will want to go back again and again.
