If you crave a retreat dating from colonial Hispanic times in Antigua, Guatemala, el Convento is for you. The best. Simply the best. A sensorial treat in every sense of the word. El Convento takes you back 4 centuries with its classic colonial architecture, its exposed brick, the magnificent wood columns, the garden and lap pool, the silence, wood-burning fireplaces in every room, eucalyptus oils burning, delicious beds and pillows plus an immaculate cleaning service. The dining room is best remembered for its fine cuisine and service. El Convento´s staff is professional but also very interested in its guests and very accommodating. The hotel is within walking distance of most of the historical sites in Antigua., a must-see for all visitors. Am counting the days to return for another week-long "retreat¨from the bustling world.

Terrible is an understatement. With all the rave reviews listed we tried it but very disappointed. Service - terrible (overworked and understaffed). Food - overcooked. Accommodations were Spartan and unmanageable. At $1000.00 per night, we would be crazy to return.

Fantastic small hotel in a very convenient location. It's far enough from the center to provide a quiet respite, but close enough to be in the heart of things within 5-10 minutes. The room was very comfortable and bright. The staff was attentive and always friendly. Perfect for a short or long getaway.

This is a gorgeous boutique hotel in the heart of Antigua Guatemala, at first glimpse the outside doesn’t look like much but once you enter it opens up to a beautiful reception area and the further inside is just magnificent. There is an on site restaurant which is excellent, you can eat inside or enjoy the roof top area for dining with a view of Fuego volcano. Breakfast is delicious, our favourite was the avocado toast with poached eggs, and the coffee was beyond our expectations. Our room was beautiful with both a fireplace and jacuzzi in our private patio, and the staff from the driver, maids, wait staff, reception and manager were all incredibly friendly and hospitable.

I've stayed at some nice hotels before but El Convento is the most beautiful and charming. Decorative carved wood doors, water features, terraces with incredible views... every where I turned there was something delightful to take in. And the service is top notch. I requested a rollaway bed and within a matter of minutes two employees assembled a full twin bed for me- frame, boxspring, mattress, and comfy bedding. It took some doing to get all that up the stairs! The breakfast included with the price of the room was delicious- just about anything you could want was on the menu. I wish I had thought to take photos of the breakfasts because they were pretty. And the hotel is perfectly clean. Shout out to housekeeper Ana and also our restaurant server, Freddy. It was hard to say good bye to El Convento.

Beautiful hotel with friendly staff. Very stylishly designed and lovely setting. Food was incredible. I would definitely recommend the breakfast, each dish prepared to chefs standards. The beds were super comfy and the huge rain shower was fantastic! We stayed in the suite.

We arrived at El Convento in the middle of the political unrest in Guatemala and the hotel staff made sure at all times that we were safe and kept us posted. The hotel is beautiful and provides everything needed. Breakfast is delicious and can be enjoyed in the beautiful restaurant or upstairs on the terrace. I can highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to explore Guatemala and enjoy the luxurious and upscale hotel.

I had a lovely experience at this hotel - it is immaculate and the grounds are beautiful. All the staff were helpful and friendly. I enjoyed my private terrace but also the shared terrace for breakfast - it is so peaceful with stunning views. The location is perfect for exploring Antigua, I felt safe walking around. I’d stay again if I return to Antigua.
