We stayed here for 3 nights. The inn was clean and pleasant, staff was friendly and helpful. Walking distance to town. The room rate was fairly priced. Our room had a queen bed and a small bathroom, but the size or the rooms were as expected for a lodge of this age (built in the 1700's?).

Property's Favorite Review
I just returned from a fantastic 9-night stay at the Cliff Lodge and already look forward to going back next summer. There simply isn't anything not to like about the most welcoming inn on the island. It has endless charm, beautiful grounds, and a more relaxing ambience than you can imagine. Madelon and Chris are wonderful people and gracious hosts, and the staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. The location is terrific (just a five-minute walk to town), the inn obviously has been lovingly maintained, and the rooms are bright, comfortable, and quiet. I could go on and on with superlatives but I would strongly recommend experiencing it first hand. You'll be very glad that you did.

Response from Cliff Lodge Nantucket, Innkeeper at Cliff Lodge
Responded Sep 8, 2021
Mr. Keating, Christopher and I are so endlessly appreciative of this most flattering and kind review. Your words mean the world to us and are both reassuring and fortifying. You are a perfect guest and any establishment would be lucky to host you. We are in good fortune to accommodate you two years running and look forward to your next visit! All the best, Madelon

Back in the 80s I used to stay at Cliff Lodge often while I was trying to decide whether or not to move to Nantucket. (I did and stayed for 9 years.) So I was thrilled to see that my favorite room, number 7, was available for the 2 nights I planned on being on-island last month. Upon check-in there was nobody in the lobby to help so I pressed a button on the wall two or three times in 15 minutes but got no response. Then I noticed a hand-written sign saying to call a local number for assistance. Well, I did but that's annoying when you don't have a US phone and are basically calling long distance from Europe, kind of a waste. Then I got to my beloved room 7 which no longer had the lovely blue and yellow flowered wallpaper (yeah, I know, it was peak Laura Ashley days when I stayed there). The room was redecorated but the color was a depressing gray/green and all of the trim looked tired and chipped. The TV never worked and I just didn't bother seeking someone out to help with it. The glass shelf over the sink was gone but the two fixtures to hold the glass in remained. There was a little side table painted white, also worn and chipped. The bed used to be a double bed fitted into a little niche that made it cozy. Now there is a twin with a one foot gap between the edge and the wall. I haven't slept in a twin bed since I moved out of my parents' house back in 1975. I found the breakfast to be pretty decent so no complaints there and the staff that I did bump into were extremely nice. But every time I went up and down the stairs to and from my room I was shocked at the state of the carpet on the stairs. It was absolutely filthy. The charm of Cliff Lodge was gone for me and that made me very nostalgic for the 80s and the former innkeeper, Geri.

The following review is not a reflection on the hardworking staff of the Cliff Lodge! They are doing their best under what seems like a change of management or business plan that has affected the flavor and character of this (formerly) historic and charming gem ! The mag-ACK of Cliff Lodge aside from its history and location was in the delicious details. It’s endearing and unique charm was found largely in touches - thoughtful decor, deliciously curated breakfast trays, botanical toiletries, etc. The rooms still have themes and are kept tidy but so many of the thoughtful details that used to set Cliff apart were sadly missing this year. Not only were they missing, but the website did not reflect their changes (still features a list of amenities that are in large part now a distant, fond memory….) Given its past reputation and wonderful location, I have no doubt Cliff will continue to financially succeed. However the obviously cut corners chip away at its charm and reputation in Nantucket and beyond. Please consider restoring Cliff Lodge to its rightful place as one of ACKs most endearing and inviting gems. Nantucket isn’t just about making a buck, it’s about history and tradition and a unique charm all to its own. I hope Cliff Lodge can once again reflect that.

I was here for 4 nights this past week and overall it was a good experience. My husband and I liked the location, thought the bed was extremely comfortable, and liked the quality towels, sheets, and overall size of the room. It seems, though, that there has been a change in management or daily staff at the hotel, based on some of the reviews from last year. First, many prior reviews from last year and the web site state something about a fancy breakfast with a nice hot breakfast dish. This definitely does not happen anymore. There is an expansive choice of breakfast in the dining room, but most of it is store bought cereals, pastries, and fruit. No hot option cooked to order, and no room breakfast basket. Other talked about making an order an having it brought to the room at a pre determined time. Definitely does not happen anymore. The brewed coffee though was good and I enjoyed drinking it on the outside terrace. also, the web site still makes reference to a fancy type of toiletry/ shampoo/ condititioner/ soap that was supposed to be in the room. That is definitely not there anymore. Instead, we had a weird selection of soaps shampoos and conditioners from a defunct Indian hotel chain (Oyo). These issues aside, the woman who worked there was nice and friendly, hard working, and kept everything tidy and nice. I liked the location quite a bit, and the bed was comfortable.

We stayed in the Deluxe King on the 2nd floor. The room itself is very nice, big comfortable bed, and great water pressure in the shower. We were very disappointed in the service. There was no daily breakfast basket, and some of the reviews from 8 months to a year ago talk about an amazing breakfast and coffee? There was a Keurig downstairs, store bought muffins, a few apples, peanut butter and jelly packets and a loaf of bread. There was OJ and Milk with some cereal that I tried but both the cereal and milk tasted old. It was just disappointing because for almost $300 a night, I wanted a nice breakfast, otherwise I would have gone to another B&B down the road that offered the same but stated that on their website. I understand it’s the off season but advertise that during the off season this is what you will get. Also mention rooms are being worked on in the off season and the construction crew will start at 8am on weekday mornings you are there. As I said, the room and bed were comfy but I was disappointed with the B&B and for that, I wouldn’t stay again.

Booking.com will book this hotel for you at a good price and then you can cancel the reservation if a storm prevents the boats from going to Nantucket. If you book with the site, and even one boat makes it to Nantucket, this owner will charge you for the FULL price. In my case that was TWO nights and almost $400.00. After accusing me of lying about canceled boats, and then trying to bargain for me to pay half the amount, she charged the full amount to my charge card. Look elsewhere. Other hotels on Nantucket did not charge guests who could not make it to the island due to the Nor-eastern Bom Cyclone storm of October, 2021 that hit Boston and the Cape.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? Madelon and Chris are providing a level of guest care and attention that is incredibly rare and hard to find. They have thought of everything from ice packs to beach towels and umbrellas. The homemade breakfast is delicious and the fruit water available daily is a great touch. They are so incredibly thoughtful, kind and accommodating that I know I will be back a 3rd and 4th time!

This was my first visit to Nantucket, and I was blown away by the intention, location, and overall accommodation at Cliff Lodge. It was perfectly tucked away - a 10 minute walk to town and the beach. With complimentary (and absolutely delicious) breakfast served to your room, an outdoor patio and garden made for relaxing, and the personal touch that Madelon and Chris have given the lodge, I won't be staying anywhere else! Madelon was also especially helpful when I needed first aid after the beach by hanging supplies on my door for return. Truly wonderful people and hosts!
