We booked a confirmed reservation for 29 Fair Street in March 2021 for September 2021. We arrived in Boston the day before our Cape Air flight to Nantucket and decided to call The Summer House to see if we might fly over a day early. When I tried to confirm our reservation at 29 Fair Street, I was told they are no longer affiliated with that property! After some fast Googling we found 27 and 29 Fair Street had been sold back in April and closed and we were never notified! We managed to track down the new ownership group and was told the properties were sold with no reservations on the books, but we were told we were now the 4th to inquire. Apparently, others back in July had also contacted the new ownership group. We kept calling the The Summer House reservation desk and told "the innkeeper" who is in fact Francesca (she and her parents are Andre Partners LLC) would call us back. We made it clear we would need to cancel our Cape Air before 24 hours to save the credit and we waited a couple more hours and cancelled with 3 minutes to spare. Francesca finally called us later that evening, didn't really apologize, offered to refund our card the full amount. Called back later to say, sorry no longer have card on file, so how about she mail us a check for the full refund. We said OK but send us a tracking number. No check ever arrived and after 3 months we were unsuccessful in reversing the charges despite providing detailed phone records and documentation. Beyond disappointed. We'll never do business with The Summer House ever again. Lesson learned.…
We stayed in the Marigold room. It was clean and comfortable. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating. I asked for extra towels when we checked in and the housekeeper brought them right to us. We enjoyed the location, which was just a few blocks from the center of Nantucket.
Unfortunately I had to cancel my booking on account of a family medical drama. I tried calling the property SIX times. Each time I was told "the innkeeper" would process the cancellation request and call me back. Neither happened. I also emailed three times - no response to these either. Terribly disappointing that even this most basic of customer service requests could not be honored, leave alone that I had to kiss all my money goodbye. Good luck to all the people who actually stay there.
Only thing about this place that rates anything is location. Tiny room big price. Crack in door large enough for creepy crawly things to come in. Bathtub a dingy gray. Witness to screaming match between owner and manager. Though staff were polite we never got towels changed or any housekeeping for the 3 nights we were there.T.V. finally worked after 2 days though frankly we stayed in room as little as possible during our stay.
Located within a block of Main Street downtown Nantucket, walking distance to ferries, and a shuttle to the included pool/beach club, Helpful courteous staff, our space had a large sitting room, large bedroom, large bathroom, outside porch, we had our own floor. The antique furniture added to the ambiance. Breakfast included. Gardens were relaxing. Chairs, umbrellas, towels and assistance provided on the ocean beach. Price was very economical compared to other places.
I stayed in the Hydrangea Room this past weekend. The room in general is just old, and the "living room" small. On the website it looks huge. The floors, totally crooked!! The bathroom situation was weird with 2 doors that barely closed so no privacy. The backyard would have been really cute, except you are watching and listening to the kitchen staff working. Its just a weird set up. Breakfast was decent, but there was a big fight between the workers which made for an awkward situation. I asked for the WiFi password (not posted anywhere) and felt like I was bothering the staff. The only good thing about this hotel is the free shuttle to the beach/pool which was lovely. Otherwise be prepared for a very no-frills, weird setup.
I'm actually annoyed to give it even 1 star. This place is a dump. Service is terrible and the room and amenities even worse. Room was hot (old window unit), couldn't even put our clothes away....because their was no dresser. Entire place was just dated with ZERO charm. Hated every minute of it.
We (wife and 3 year old) stayed for 3 nights in the Magnolia, which had a separate entrance and was sort of a duplex. It had a functional kitchen and privacy. Though one bedroom is near the kitchen area, I didn't find it a problem. The window AC units worked very well and kept us cool. The Summer House is not a modern place and is a little worn throughout but it was authentic Nantucket. The breakfast was simple (fruit, muffins, coffee, juices, etc.) but good. The staff was excellent and very friendly. I saw negative reviews, but I suspect reviewers have never stayed in Nantucket, or omitted the fact that the places they say are better are also significantly more expensive. Nantucket is expensive and Summer House is a good place to stay if you are looking for something cheaper than White Elephant, Nantucket Inn, etc. Just keep in mind it is an older building with quirks. It is worth staying here for the Summer House Sconset access alone.…
The inn was not well taken care of. Furniture appeared broken, mattress was uncomfortable and ancient, lady in charge was more interested in her cell phone than in greeting guests, and the bathroom in the lobby (actually in the restaurant next door also owned by the summer house) hadn't been flushed when I first checked in. The pool area out in Sconset looked like it had been neglected for years and once again the attendant was more interested in her cell phone than in helping guests. The AC unit in the room worked but was open to the outside on one side so struggled. The only redeeming qualities for this place for me was the size of the bathroom in our room which was nice and the cleaning staff who were very nice. I wouldn't recommend this place until the Summer House bothers to invest some time and money in it. …
Absolutely HORRIBLE stay at 27 Fair Street and no service at all a the inn THE SUMMER HOUSE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES...there is no option for NO STARS ON YELP so I had to put one...NOT GOOD BIG THUMBS DOWN!!!! ULTRA small moldy bathroom, old rickety non-working air conditioner and the windows are stuck shut so you can't even open them (fire hazard) and to top it off the tv did not work...with the nantucket humidity it was stifling! called for service and they did not even send a maintenance worker and I got the run around from all the managers...the room was so tiny and old and the bathroom was literally in a closet...I had to stick my leg out on the sink to try to shave it...and there was no window or fan and if you are not petite...you won't even be able to squeeze into the shower and I am petite....NEVER STAY here unless you want your money taken and vacation ruined...and after staying at many top resorts on Nantucket for my lifetime...this was literally the worst travel experience I have ever had...and the owner promised to call me and rectify this and never did...despicable! Never stay here!!!! It was so bad that I literally checked out and took the first boat home to try to get my money back...and they released my room to be booked again and never have rectified the situation as of yet...classless place! I could not even breath in the room it was so stifling with no a/c and Windows stuck shut and ash fumes from the old fireplace and mold obvious on the bathroom ceiling! It was toxic and not at all like the luxurious other B&B's and resorts I have stayed at on Nantucket like the Cliffside Beach Club, Wauwinet, and White Elephant and the Roberts House Inn...never will stray again...the Summer House should be ASHAMED !!! Make sure to look at my pics and captions and not theirs where they make it look photoshopped...it is a truly decrepit place!!!!!…
