A very central hotel in the Old Bazaar district. A couple of minutes walk from Macedonia Square and the Stone Bridge. Rooms were very comfortable and nice bathroom with a walk-in shower. Breakfast was ample to start the day. Reception were able to organise a transfer for me from the airport to the hotel for 20 euro which really helped when I arrived in Skopje airport. This hotel was a bargain for the price I paid so will be staying here again next time I am in Skopje

I have stayed a couple of times at this centrally located, modern hotel with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff and everything nearby - shops, sights, restaurants. The common areas are spacious, the rooms are clean and the beds are very comfortable. The buffet style breakfast is rich and varied, suitable also for vegetarians, and there is a water heater and complimentary coffee in every room (- no tea though!). Private parking is available in front of the hotel at no extra cost. I highly recommend this hotel!

One minor detail which some people might find awkward: There isn't a lock to the bathroom door in any of the rooms I have stayed in.

Firstly the pluses. Reception staff were amazing and the hotel is brilliantly situated next to the Old Bazaar. I felt extremely safe in the area even as a female solo traveller, even going out to dinner by myself in the Old Bazaar.
Negatives are the room itself. Tired and grimy. Bed extremely uncomfortable and I found dirt fluff under the pillow. They did provide slippers, bit really disliked the bathroom, which was more of a wet room. Wires were dangling everywhere and a part of the hotel that was under maintenance was curtained off with a flimsy sheet.
Breakfast was adequate and plentiful, but could have benefitted from some hot choices.

Possibly the worst hotel room we’ve stayed in in 30 years. The room was in a total state of disrepair, was unclean and staff were indifferent at best.
Windows were either jammed or broken (I tried to open one and it nearly fell out of its frame), the shower head was broken so it had to be handheld, the bed “base” was a few lumps of chipboard whacked together that I barked my leg on, the mattress was a lump of sponge that gave no support, the sheet didn’t fit the bed, there were horrible stains in the bathroom ceiling from old roof leaks, the bathroom was unclean, wifi wouldn’t reach our room.
There may well be nicer rooms in the hotel that are like the photos. Ours wasn’t but of course you wouldn’t put up photos of your worst room would you?
My advice is, if you choose to stay here, specifically ask not to be given room 213. Good luck.

Truly dreadful. I never complain about hotels but this place is a real piece of work. We paid for a superior room with Jacuzzi spa and when we checked in the bathroom floor was flooded. We told the staff who arranged for someone to come and clean up and all was well. Until we came back from a days exploring and tried to use the jacuzzi. Sewage water came up through the floor drains and flooded the bathroom. I told the lady at the front desk who was very nice and sent the manager up to our room to investigate. When Macedonian Basil Fawlty arrived, he proceeded to tell me that this is normal and that its not an issue. When I advised him that I didn't think wading through inches of sewage to use the loo was normal he accused us of causing the flooding ourselves and became rude to the point that I had to ask him to leave the room. I felt sorry for the poor girl on the front desk who clearly has to deal with the mans rudeness to guests on a regular basis. In addition the rooms are tired and in desperate need of some tlc. There was hole in our bed, led lighting peeling away from the wall (all of which I would probably have overlooked tbh)

Hotel de Koka is a nice hotel located right in the middle of the old souk and the modern part of the city.
The hotel had a very nice complimentary breakfast and all staff were helpful and attentive. There are banks and just about any style of restaurant just outside your door.

Located next to the Grand Bazaar, you immediately feel the buzzling vibe of Skopje at check-in. The reception is very informative and friendly. A great portion of humour is never far away. The rooms are clean and equipped with a fridge full of goodies. Service of the rooms occurs on daily basis. The breakfast is basic but tasteful. David, Mister Anthony and myself would highly recommend Hotel De Koka.

This place does not look like the pictures, at all. The rooms are dated, yes they once looked like the pictures but all the walls are marked, stained curtains and the pillows are flat, lumpy and bobbly from where they have been washed so many times.

A very dated hotel and was not the place we expected from the pictures.

It was clean, friendly, and well located by the old city and bazaar. They cleaned daily. Only negative for me was that the overhead water pressure in the shower was very low. I have long hair and I need more than what was coming out to get my hair washed in any sort of decent time.

Less than 5 minutes walk away from everything you need to see. The location was wonderful with a very good buffet breakfast to start the morning. The room had a nice little view of the local street and was simply great to be in after long days of walking.

Hi there, are pets allowed?
Doncaster, United Kingdom78 contributions89 helpful votes
Hi! Glad to see my review was of some help! Unfortunately, pets are not allowed at the De Koka - this is quite the "norm" in most hotels in Europe and I think you will find it quite difficult to find a 'pet friendly' hotel, especially in city locations. At smaller 'B&B's with perhaps only 2/3 rooms located on the outskirts of a town there is more likelihood of finding a pet friendly place. Good luck and enjoy Macedonia (England is also not too bad!!!) C.
