Detailed Reviews
The hotel has been refurbished recently. The staff are lovely and helpful, the breakfast is excellent, the bar and ground floor facilities are also great.
However, the rooms are small, air con doesn't go below 22 degrees (so room is baking all night when outside temperatures are well over 30, and switches on and off constantly, interrupting sleep), bathroom is small with over bath shower - not easy to use, water pressure is poor and hard to get a good shower - not much room in the bath for bigger people. Mini bar and laundry prices are obscene - 3 euros for a 100 ml bottle of water and to launder a shirt, trousers and undergarments is over 25 euros. Also, some appliances in rooms randomly don't work. Shame, as the location is excellent and there is a lot to like.

We only stayed here a night. The exterior of the hotel reflects its age but the interior of the hotel has been refurbished and we were pleasantly surprised.
The rooms were quite nice, and the ground floor facilities (bar and restaurant) were also nice.
Location was brilliant - close to the river and riverfront bars and restaurants and a short walk to the old town.
If we had been there for longer we might have liked a pool and other facilities but for a quick stay in Skopje we were pleased with the hotel.

A hotel at this level should have the same fundamental elements in all the same kind of rooms but they said they're out of slippers and waiting from the UK. Sheets and pillow were not clean enough for this standart hotel. Although some same kind of rooms have bathrobe or coffee machine some of them don't. They don't serve just one bottle of water for the guests and they overcharge. 1 bottle of water is 0,50 euro on the streets, 1,60 at the bar and 2,70 in the room. They don't provide fundamentals but they're so confident to overcharge for just one bottle of water without any hesitation. 2 elevators but one is out of use for a long time, you have to walk the stairs for 7-8 floors when it's rush. Reception is so slow to organize the guests.
Note: only plus is location.

Hotel's Favorite
This hotel was priced higher that some others nearby. I chose this hotel because it was closest to the bus station yet Central. The reviews were not promising describing it as pretty old. I'd agree about the outside of the building but the inside felt fairly new. I'm a platinum member and this was well recognized. They gave me a room upgrade to their senior suite and also free breakfast which normally isn't provided to platinum members. The suite was very nice. A large living room plus separate bedroom and bathroom. For some reason the bathroom had two showers, a stall version and a bathtub version. Water pressure was good. They also provided me a plate with some smart desserts. I had a small view of the river area. The room was comfortable with a couch and table plus a desk. TV has smart features. Internet was fast. Breakfast was great with a wide variety of options.
Unfortunately my first night had very low occupancy in the hotel so breakfast was by order only. This made it a little confusing since there was no list of all the items to choose from. Although I still got plenty to eat I thought that a lot of food was wasted since the portion sizes that I got were quite large and I also got a few extra items I didn't mean to order. The next day had a normal buffet setup. I don't know what the normal rooms are like but I'd 100% come back if I get upgraded to a suite again. With the upgrade, it's probably one of the top HI stays I've ever had.

Stayed just one night to use as a base whilst attending football. Hotel does look a bit drab on the outside but the inside is freah and modern and staff were pleasnt and welcoming. Rooms are standard Holiday Inn but were claen and fresh, shower worked well too. Beds perfectly comfortable with fresh clean linen. Hotwl is well situated along the river with plenty of bars etc. We didn't eat here and just used to local restaurants. Taxi's are plentiful outside for getting to airport etc but always make sure you agree the price beforehand as one or two drivers try to make to most out of the tourists. Would stay again,

The staff at the Holiday Inn are very helpful. The hotel has been recently refurbished and provides comfortable and modern accommodation. The hotel is also very well located near several restaurants and the old town that offers a wide range of specialist traditional food vendors. The location of the hotel offers the visitor an opportunity to experience the city centre in a very efficient way.

The hotel is renovated and situated in the center of Skopje conveniently nearby major institutions, old town or landmark areas. Big minus from my point of view is that smoking is still allowed in some parts of the hotel or there are smoking rooms. No specific amenities were available in the room (which is strange for a 5* hotel). The breakfast buffet is not clearly marked so you either guess what are the ingredients or you have to ask each time (e.g. pork, vegan, vegetarian, allergens etc). All in all, the hotel is ok if you have all above in mind.

1 of the 2 elevators (max capacity 5 persons) was not working (and this since 2 weeks already!).
The breakfast was terrible. Not only it was not tasty but it was also poor and at 7:45 am the buffet recipients were already empty. Moreover, the waiters always gave us the constant feeling that we were disturbing them. They did not even reply to « our » greetings – let alone a smile or « good morning » upon arrival. They didn’t even say « have a nice day » when guests leave the breakfast area. They just ignored guests. They didn’t do much, and they never asked whether we would like some coffee, for example. Once or twice they were even chatting quite loudly in a group of 4-5 next to the food displays, without even caring of the disturbance they made.
I received one small bottle of drinkable water in the room upon arrival, then during an entire week nothing. Are guests supposed to purchase drinking water themselves?
The water in the shower was lukewarm at best (after 2-3 minutes of letting it flow). Impossible to take a genuine hot shower.
I asked for an umbrella at the reception one evening when it was raining heavily. I was told that « we had one somewhere, but probably someone else took it already ».
Never again.

Response from IHG Service, Owner at Holiday Inn Skopje, an IHG hotel
Responded Jun 13, 2024
Dear Yellowblueflag, I appreciate you for sharing your review of your recent stay at our Holiday Inn Skopje while visiting Skopje. It's a pleasure having you as our guest. I am truly sorry that you did not experience an exemplary hotel stay because of the level of service you have received. On behalf of our hotel, I apologize for our elevators, our breakfast and the service of our staff. This is not what we want any of our guests to experience. I have sent you a private message to reaffirm my apologies. I very much hope that you will grant us the opportunity to prove ourselves again. Best Regards, Ben W. We came to Skopje for the England game. We had booked quite a few rooms - unfortunately this confused the check-in staff and we all ended up in rooms with our friend’s names. This wouldn’t have mattered but it was then a 1.5 hr marathon trying to get my points awarded for my room. Eventually a manager was called and he got it all sorted but it wasn’t really what you expect at the Holiday Inn.
The rooms were nice, clean and adequate. However a couple of our rooms had no hot water on the first morning, maybe it’s more to do with the City than the hotel but it wasn’t very convenient.
All in all it was a good place to stay and the location is fantastic for walking everywhere, including back from the stadium.

I had a pleasant few days at the Holiday Inn. I arrived late but was upgraded to a suite which was a nice touch.
The room had a decent sized lounge, a big bedroom, large bathroom with plenty of amenities and even a balcony.
The guys on reception were super friendly and the hotel is in a perfect spot to explore.
Sure it looks a little tired in some parts and the breakfast could be improved but the value for money is fine. If you want something swankier then check out the Marriot.

I can give you the name and number of a reliable cab driver to use if you want.
I got in a cab at the airport and did not care for the price, the driver, or the service. To start off he took us down a dirt road with the windows down on a hot July day. All this to avoid a small toll booth.
I can also send you photos of the view from our room, you could then request the same room or at least the same side.
