We paid for a room with a River view, which was recommended to us and the reason we stayed at the Bentley. Our view was of lower roof tops and trash. When we asked for what we paid for, front desk said no more River view rooms were available. They didn’t budge. He also said three times that we had made the reservation on line (did that make a difference?! I made it through their web site) and it was for a standard room. I had a screen shot of the confirmation to show: it was river view. When I went on line again after this; their website showed the river view rooms were available for that night. A scam - beware.

If you're visiting Alexandria, you might as well stay at the Bentley. Even aside from the charm factor, the price is comparable to other hotels with sketchy reviews and much less character. Also, the location at the center of town is excellent, convenient to the convention center, several cute-looking restaurants, an art museum, the Red River, Interstate 49, and Pineville. I was happy to see the Bentley being kept up so well. The staff has shown good insight into what does and doesn't matter to their guests. The lobby looks beautiful and includes some displays about the history of the hotel. Our room was comfortable, pretty, and scrupulously clean. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. They have free coffee, a little workout room and a take-one/leave-one library. As far as I could tell, vallet service has been discontinued but there was plenty of parking. We had a little trouble figuring out what entrance to use (Basically any of them would have worked. We were being clueless.) and, because the building pre-dates accessibility laws by decades, I would recommend double-checking about any such concerns before booking. The restaurant and the Mirror Room Lounge are also worth a look.

Joseph Bentley, a local entrepreneur who made his fortune in the Louisiana lumber business, constructed Hotel Bentley in 1907 and opened to the public in 1908. The hotel also served as his private residence until his death in 1938. The residence was accessed by private elevator. The elevator and apartment still exists there today. My husband and I love historic hotels, and we were really impressed with the expansive public spaces in the Bentley. We asked for a room with a view of the Red River right next to bridge The view was wonderful and the room had beautiful vintage style furniture reproductions. The bathrooms were freshly remolded with beautiful floors and marbled topped vanities. For dinner we dined in the romantic Bentley Room Restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed the Maple Bacon Bourbon Salmon while my husband enjoyed the Seafood Chowder with a Caesar Salad. All the food was served in huge portions by a friendly and efficient staff. Upon leaving in the morning we accidently left our keys to the car in the room. Before we reached the back door, one of the housekeeping staff was calling us and brought them to us. They went way out of their way to make sure we had our keys. We will definitely return to stay here in the future.

This hotel is listed as 4 stars. What a huge lie. While the historic bones of the building (lobby etc) are beautiful, the guest rooms are so so dated and borderline disgusting. I contemplated switching mid visit. ONE hotel employee on site. 👎🏼

The staff we encountered were great. The room was out of the 1920's but updated as much as you can with the physical limitations of the walls and windows. When we were there, most everything was shut down in the hotel due to pandemic restrictions. No valet, restaurant or other services at the moment. I suspect when everything is operating, it can be quite a place. The entry is beautiful. You could imagine deal makers talking in the various locations where cocktail tables and leather chairs are set and the piano would be playing. If you stay, you have to accept the limitations of the property and realize it isn't the Plaza in New York. We stayed one night on our trip. It is clean and reasonably comfortable. I would give it a higher rating, but with everything shut down, I had no experience with the amenities.

I had not eaten at the Bentley since before Covid. I went there for Sunday brunch with friends. It was outstanding! The food was delicious, the service was great and the presentation was beautiful. I ate the crab cakes with cheese grits and we shared the beignets for dessert. Crab cakes were perfect and the beignets were every bit as good as in New Orleans. I look forward to dining there again soon.

So disappointing. We were really looking forward to staying in this historic and beautiful hotel. However when we pulled up at 5:00 PM on a Friday there was no valet staff. I would’t complain but the hotel was supposed to be four stars. The problems continued when we tried to check in. There was one hotel employee to check all the parties in, and he was stuck sorting out a man who booked through a third party app and had no proof of his reservation. When I enquired if there was a manager on duty to help I was told NO. So we all waited for about 40 minutes. The hotel itself is over 110 years old, but the bones are gorgeous. There is so much potential here. The room was comfortable and thankfully clean, seeing as there seems to be a staff shortage. It seems the deficiencies I experienced could be alleviated through training and staffing, and a manager on duty. I hope things improve, it’s definitely full of potential

If I could give it a "0" I would because we did not get to stay there. We made a reservation for a 4 night stay - 2 weeks ahead of our stay. We showed up and they told us they did not have a room for us and claimed they called us and told us there were no rooms. Why would they call us and not the 3rd party we booked company we booked it through since we made the reservation with them? Nothing made sense...so we asked to see the manager and WOW she was one of the rudest ladies we have ever met (and believe me we have traveled all over the world). Martha Turner - I can not believe she is the manager of this hotel, anyway, she said we don't have a room for you and we will not accommodate you at another hotel. Thank goodness the 3rd party took care of us. DO NOT MAKE A RESERVATION AT THIS HOTEL UNLESS YOU WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE OF GETTING THERE AND NOT HAVING A ROOM!! Really Rude group of people

What a run down dump. Room was nasty. After seeing pictures of their lobby at Christmas I decided to book a week in the speciality suite 501. For the price the chain hotels in town are much nicer. This place was a run down dump. The room's air-conditioning sucks. I was covered in sweat every night. They even have signs on the doors warning not to turn the AC down too much, so they know their Air condition is a problem. The floors in the lobby check in area had trash all over them.

My husband had a work thing in Alexandria so I tagged along for a little getaway. The hotel is gorgeous. We went up to our room to see the door open and not clean for us. We called the front desk and the woman immediately met us upstairs to a new and cleaned room. I went to use the bathroom to discover it was clogged with handfuls of toilet paper. I again called the front desk and the woman was able to unclog it while we were at dinner. We were very disappointed in the lack of preparation but figured it was a fluke incident and left it at that. A few weeks later, my husband returned to that hotel for another work event. When he got to his room and saw it was ready for him but then noticed that the sink was full of beard trimmings from a previous stay and the trash was not removed. He was appalled. He had a rough day and just wanted to get home so he didnt say anything to the front desk. Though we love how beautiful this hotel is it is clearly horribly managed. The cleaning staff seem to obviously leave parts of the room unfinished. How can someone miss a clogged toilet and beard trimmings??? We are pretty forgiving people and realize things can slip through the cracks but this is ridiculous. Unfortunately, due to the proximity of the hotel to the courthouse (where my husband has to attend for work) he will have to continue staying there when his practice brings him to Alexandria.
