Despite a difficult arrival over the easter procession the staff was genuinely nice and advised on good restaurants around and things to see around the hotel. The room was large enough and the bathroom equipment very decent. The AC is somewhat noisy, but ok. The breakfast is served from 7am in the main lobby which is very well decorated, but staff is quite slow to serve early morning. Location-wise it is a perfect compromise in the old town and the bedding was very comfortable to sleep in. Thank you
The hotel has a great location. Truly great. The rooms can be good sized but the lower floor rooms have issues with hot water. Our first room had only tepid water for a shower. We asked and got another room. The hotel is old which has its charm but a l so some issues. But location is a 5 plus.
We had two different hotel stays here with lovely, comfortable rooms on top floors, with water views. Great to walk the streets of UNESCO Casco Viejo and experience the stores, restaurants, ambience, Canal Museum, restored Cathedral and new Mola museum. The American Trade hotel restaurant has very nice food choices for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
We stayed at the hotel over Easter 2022 and had high expectations after reading the reviews. Unfortunately, this place is overrated. The location is excellent for exploring Casco Viejo and the staff is friendly. The hotel though has no charge, the interior decoration is uninspired and appears indiscriminately, rooms are bare and dated. The whole hotel comes across as if a substantial makeover/renovation is immanent. Our key cards repeatedly seized operating the elevator and room door; the hallways have stairs difficult to maneuver with heavier luggage and no-one available to help. The pool is very small allowing for a dip of no more than one or two guests at a time. The whole rooftop area where the pool is located is uninviting, seems neglected and no food or drink service is being offered. For people sensitive to noise it's important to know that a church is right across with bells ringing often early in the morning. Overall, the hotel is overpriced compared to other accommodations in the area and we would not recommend to stay there.…
Panama City, specificaly Casco Viejo has plenty of hotels and Airbnbs to stay but the American trade hotel has all in one place, it is so close to everything, right in the middle. Tours departs right in front of the hotel as well. Stuff is eficient and speaks perfect english, it is clean and safe. Definitely a great option to stay.
Very good stay in this exceptional boutique hotel over six nights in February and March. Tried a variety of rooms: super deluxe, garden suite, corner room, panorama. All but panorama had small but welcome balcony overlooking beautiful Plaza Herrera in the Casco Viejo. This part of the old town features well kept/restored 17th and 18th century buildings, several historic churches, parts of the old city wall and a plethora of restaurants, shops, several museums and music venues. Perfect base for exploring the city of Panama. Safety is assured, discreet police presence. My stay here was satisfying in many respects. Staff is professional yet sweet, kind, and on top of everything. The concierge is at the reception desk. We booked terrific tours through them. Responsive and knowledgeable. Some services have been curtailed due to covid. Coffee bar is closed, Jazz bar also but the main restaurant serves good coffee and is open for all meals until 9pm. The bar is open but sometimes you have to hunt up the barkeep at the reception desk or restaurant. Room service is available but you have to get a restaurant menu (not supplied in room, probably covid precaution), same fare. The cornmeal empanadas and yuca frita (fried yuca) highly recommended. Breakfast (included) features great fruit and coffee, so-so eggs with potatoes and bacon. Also granola, yogurt, juice. The ethos and decor here are fetching, attractive, relaxing, and convey the sense of a different place and time. There is a delicious library upstairs, be sure to check it out. Good place to play cards or board games. Climate control throughout the hotel is good, and that is welcome in the tropics. Bathrooms are super clean, large and well equipped, fabulous shower pressure. Nice toiletries. Towels could use a thickness upgrade. Rooms are spacious and uncluttered, lovely. Nespresso-type pod coffee maker, plenty of bottled water. There is a small fridge but not stocked due to covid. I urge travelers to eschew the big-brand hotels in favor of this atmospheric gem.…
We finished our holidays at the American Trade Hotel and that was the worse ending… Service is terrible, breakfast is completely insufficient, and at the checkout they tried to charge us 900$ instead of 280$! Thankfully we realized but the we really hope they cancelled the transfer as promised… I’ve never seen such an experience for such a price.
We stayed at the ATH for a wedding. The hotel was awesome. And the staff were exceptional, especially Jonathan Morales. We took a redeye from Los Angeles and landed early in the morning. Jonathan made sure our rooms were ready so we could check in early. Jonathan also arranged for Covid Tests and helped us with restaurants, directions, etc. The hotel is centrally located in the Old Town, Casco Viejo and is in the perfect spot for all of the restaurants and bars. Rooms were really nice. When I return to Panama, I will definitely stay at the ATH
We stayed at the hotel before and after our trip to San Blas. The hotel is great. I was especially appreciative of the staff's responsiveness prior to travelling in helping me sort out all kinds of details. Once there, the service was top notch. The rooms are very nicely appointed with balconies. We did not have any problems with noise at all! The pools is small but perfect for an afternoon dip! The hotel is a bit pricey but we felt it was worth it after a long day of international travel and it was a great place to "home base" as we traveled around the country. We would definitely stay there again.
We stayed here for three nights in a panoramic room with great views across to the high rise city from the old town and across to the boats on the water. You can hear the church bells which wasn’t a problem for us but might be if you want to sleep late. Large room, air con worked fine, clean. Plenty of toiletries. Very limited coffee facilities just capsule coffee and paper cups. Probably because of covid. Plenty of hand sanitisers around and all staff wear masks and or shields. Unlike some of the older American guests who seem to think wearing masks didn’t apply to them. A common occurrence we found on several occasions while every one else respected the laws of the country. We only eat breakfast here. Great yogurt and fruit and then selection of various eggs and potatoes, pancakes, all freshly cooked and served at table. No buffet. Good location to explore the old town on foot.…
