We stayed for 6 nights and would definitely only recommend to stay here if you welcome some uninvited visitors...horrible experience at susbstandard hotel. Rooms smell like you’re in a kitchen, service is appalling and staff not trained.
Stayed at the JW Marriott for 1 night on our way back to the US from Panama! Checking in was easy. Our room wasn't ready yet so they took our bags and we went to grab lunch nearby. When we returned our bags were retrieved and taken to our room. The room was clean and the view from the balcony was pretty darn good! We took the chance to hit the pool and grab some cocktails. The drinks were good but the view of the city from the pool was amazing! Later that night we had dinner at one of the restaurants near the lower level of the hotel. Great atmosphere and will definitely be back on our return trip!
First of all, let me comment on the positives of JW Marriott, Panama. All of the staff are very friendly and courteous; the hotel pools enjoy great views of the ocean and the breakfast choices in both restaurants - Masi and Tejas - are plentiful and delicious. Similarly, the food and beverages at the Azul poolside bar were very good, and represented good value for money. Our room was spacious, but was showing signs of age e.g., light switches were tatty and worked haphazardly. One night when waking up to use the bathroom, there was no water at all to flush the toilet or to wash hands. Additionally, on at least one occasion there was no hot water for showering in the morning - not what is expected from this level of hotel, nor from the Marriott brand. Furthermore, after a very busy and hot day of sightseeing, we returned to our room around 5pm to discover it hadn't been cleaned. Whilst this was rectified with 15 minutes or so, it was disappointing that it had been forgotten. However, the age of the hotel and its fixtures and fittings, was truly reflected at the end of our stay. Whilst having a final drink with friends, at Azul, an hour before our transfer to the airport, the chair I had been sitting on suddenly collapsed from under me without warning. This caused me to be thrown forwards onto the marble floor, banging my knee and shin as a result. Although the manager asked if I was okay, and a waitress brought a bag of ice, no details were taken from me, nor was an accident form completed in my presence. As we were on a tight time frame for our transfer, I was only able to 'ice' my shin and knee for a few minutes in our room, before our coach arrived. Given that no details had been requested from me, my husband informed the front desk before our departure of what had happened. Additionally, I contacted the hotel on our return home, to express my concern at the lack of an accident form. I have had a prompt response from their director of food and beverage, explaining that a request has been put to their furniture provider to replace all similar chairs as a preventative measure. However, it is disappointing that I, as the guest, had to be proactive in all communications, rather than the hotel contacting me to check on my knee/leg. I have been left with a sore and bruised left shin as a result of the chair collapsing. As a result, and as an independent travel agent who had higher hopes for my stay, hoping I could recommend the hotel to clients, I'm afraid that I'd advise caution regarding the property's star rating in relation to fixtures/fittings and availability of hot water on demand. Hopefully, Marriott will invest more fully in the hotel soon, so that it can truly live up to its potential.…
The hotel is beautiful and the amenities were all good. Restaurants were pretty good. I don’t think the room was worth it, it did not stand out as a JW Marriott room. I read another review about the structural damages or lack of upkeep and I must say they were 100% correct. The flooring in Front to of the elevator dipped as if the carpet was covering over a hole, the shower door kept sticking and on the last day I was unable to open it. Bathtub was really dirty needed a deeper clean. I forgot to buy bleach so I could enjoy the bathtub. Still great for business travel, and lends to work. I still will give it another try, the friendliness of the staff was great!!
The location of this hotel for a short stay is really terrific, in the business/downtown area. A 30 to 40 minute drive from Tocumen Int. Airport, at 30$ USD. Exquisite entry/lobby, bar, restaurant and the infinity pools on the 13th floor are breathtaking. You can also hitch another taxi ride to the old quarters of the city which will take you about 15 minutes (about 20$ USD). The old city is both historically and architecturally speaking very appealing. Hotel personnel provides professional and polite service which we categorise as up to par, but nothing exceptional to report apart from having our room available for us earlier than scheduled. Our room (#1821) was very spacious and provides exceptional views of both the bay and city. We simply can not give a 4 or 5 star TA rating, because the building in some areas is just simply neglected (e.g. paint chipping extensively on the grand walls between each infinity pool), … in other words, apart from the lobby, main floor bar, lounge and restaurant, the building and furnishings need a lot of love, far beyond what one would expect at any other JW Marriott Hotel which is suppose to be the high end of the BonVoy brand range.…
The rooms have an open plan bathroom and to us felt like a bathroom with a bed in it. The rooms could use renovating. The restaurants and bar were good and staff were also good. We just didn't like the room. Hotel laundry was very expensive.
Long story short - a lot of things went wrong (reservation not found, first suite not acceptable - needed to switch, preventive room maintenance non existant it seems - Electricians spend hours to fix the air con on 2 days) which would lead to a 1 Star rating. The Management Teams tried to fix whatever they could though, offered finally an acceptable compensation, which leads to a 3 Star average rating at the end. This hotel has lots of potential (location, great Masi restaurant etc….) - it just needs to be brought out with the appropriate focus of the leadership team.
We had the most wonderful stay at JW Marriott. From the super friendly staff, to the yummie food, to the clean rooms, to the amazing views - everything was perfect. the hotel is located close to the old town (10min drive) and also has other restaurants in walking distance. Definitely will be back :-)
The location has some nice views but there is nothing else to see or do in the near vicinity. When entering from the street, you must take an elevator up to the hotel lobby located on SL level 15 floors up. Check in was easy and we had a partial ocean view room that has the usual in room safe, coffee maker and mini bar. WiFi is strong and reliable. The toilet and shower are enclosed but the tub and sinks are open to the room. The room is clean and comfortable but starting to look dated and in need of renovation. This is a full service hotel with good restaurants, bar, and a fantastic pool deck with nice views but mostly in the shade. In addition, there is a decent gym and business center. Breakfast was included in our room rate. It is served at Masi restaurant on the 14th floor. There is a reasonable selection of hot and cold items, breads and pastries and an omelet station. On the ground level there are a few small shops, a casino and a couple of nice restaurants. Overall our experience was fine but not sure if it lives up to the JW badge.…
Had a business conference in Panama and stayed for 4 nights at JW. The hotel is on the water surrounded by others similar to it. My room 2921 had slivers of view of the water and marina - mostly looked out at the dusty and dirty buildings in front of my balcony. I imagine there are better rooms for sure as this one was small, had a bathtub in the center of the room you had to walk around) and was nothing special. the air conditioning worked great - only issue was that the ceiling vents are directly aimed at the bed - which made sleeping feel like you were in a freezer locker! Fortunately I like it cold - but this could be a problem for others. There was constant confusion with the elevators. The hotel part of the building requires you to take elevator from the public lobby to the SL floor which is hotel reception. Then you take a different set of elevators to your floor. Many guests had issues with elevator as you need to swipe your room card in elevator then select floor and enter. Not brain science, but it confused lots of people! Back to the hotel.... the property was very clean and well maintained. Much nicer than other ones surrounding it. The restaurant Masi was fantastic and the breakfast buffet was excellent each morning and had everything you would want, including friendly and helpful service. This was a highlight every morning. You can sit inside or out and enjoy the ambience. The room was just OK - nothing special. The bed was comfortable, TV had good selection of channels and the shower was large space with nice hot water. The housekeeping staff was top notch as well. The only issue I had with staying here was that there is literally nothing close to the hotel to walk to. the streets are not that walkable and there are few things of interest here. You definitely do not feel like you are part of any local life action. Which, in my case was good, but maybe not for everyone. The gym at the hotel was open 24 hours and is fully equipped with free weights and plenty of machines that will rival your local gym. A+ for this amentity. All told, the employees were all excellent, friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and comfortable. I found it to be very quiet for such a large hotel and slept quite well. For a business trip this was perfect for me. Uber to convention center was just $6 and to the airport was just $12.…
