#11 of 147 Specialty lodging in Panama City
We arrange trips to the San Blas Islands for only 130$ one night all inclusive! Hostel Casa Areka is located in the heart of Panama City close to the vibrant district “Calle Uruguay”. There is a 24hr supermarket opposite of the hostel and two big malls, many restaurants and bars as well as the bus stop (e.g. to the Panama Canal or Casco Viejo) in walking distance. The highlight of our hostel is the amazing pool area surrounded by palm trees with a BBQ area where you can hang out. Inside we have a common room with a pool table and a common kitchen that is equipped with everything you need to cook your own meals (remember there is a 24hr supermarket across the street). We offer private rooms as well as dorms – all with air-conditioning. Breakfast and Internet are included. We also offer laundry service.

I enjoyed my stay at casa Areka. The staff (Jesús) was really fun and the hostel has everything it needs to have: an outside area, shared bathrooms but also bathrooms in your room, a pool billard, etc. Absolutely recommendable!

And there was Jesus - quite literally. After travelling in a freezer van for 8+ hours (aka an overnight bus), we stumbled into this urban Panamanian oasis. Greeted by the one and only, Jesus. Who was surprisingly chirpy for 4.30am. Jesus showed us through to the welcoming communal area, equipped with a pool table, lounge seating and a fully stocked beer fridge. With an ice cold Balboa firmly in our paws, we were able to dump our bags, freshen up and lay back around the pool until our room was ready. Jesus and his trusty sidekick Nala (a cat not a lion) hospitality was outstanding!! They even made us banana pancakes and coffee every morning!! We highly recommend this hostel to anyone staying in Panama City!!! And heres more free advice - ohhh boy, does Jesus love tripple ripple chocolate donuts. Crickey!! We bought a 6 pack as a thank you. As we were leaving, we found Nala and him wrestling for the last donut, chocolate all over their fur and whiskers.

Jesus and the gang are really cool. The outside space is nice and the people there are generally friendly. I love the location with walking distance to the Mall and Grocery. They organize tours, have breakfast and great coffee. It's clean and the AC works fine. I highly recommend this hostel.

My wife and I stayed in a private room at hostel areka after our week long sail from Colombia. The air con was amazing and the beds were SO comfortable!! Unfortunately the hostel is situated on a fairly busy road that gets quite noisy in peak hour but outside peak hour it was quiet. The kitchen was well equipped and it is very close to a good shopping centre. The hostel also has a pool, pool table a small book swap and provides the ingredients for banana pancakes in the morning for free. By far the best feature is the amazingly friendly staff there, Jesus was especially kind and helpful for which we were extremely thankful!

We were 3 nights and in that time nobody was in our room to make the beds, empty the bin or fill up the toilet paper. We got a big double room with a/c and mini fridge. Shower with hot water. The common areas are fine with pool and free billiard. They sell beer and cokes for $1. Just the breakfast, like almost every hostel in Panama, only pancakes, so we decided to buy ourselves another stuff. Supermarket close by open 24h. The staff from the hostel was nice.
