I've stayed 2 times in this hostel and it's always outstanding. Spotlessly clean, super nice staff, cuddly dogs and a great area to hang out and meet people in, especially in a City location. There's a free pancake breakfast with coffee/tea, hammocks and the staff can help you with San Blas trips and anything you have queries about! The dorms have AC at night and is completely quiet (also amazing considering it's in the City). There's not much around but a safe neighbourhood and you can reach anywhere easily, there's also a close by metro.
I’ve stayed in Mamallena Backpakers few times. I love the vibes the people around and great stuff. It’s alaways clean, bathrooms are clean and showers too;) Nearby supermarket restaurants ATM pharmacy metro etc.. you can also buy food and cook there. Kitchen is great. This is a great place to stay and see where you gonna do your next stop ;) thanks, stuff for your help see you again :)
Very welcoming crew and the hostel is greatly situated, close to the metro station in order to get everywhere in town. They even helped us to organize a trip to the Emberas by sharing the information.
The hostel is in the middle of the city, although when you are inside it doesn't feel like that at all. They made the place into a real nice and cozy spot to hangout. You will meet awesome people from all around the world and as a bonus; they have lovely dogs:) Absolutely recommendable!
If you’re traveling as a couple, think carefully before you book Mamallena. My wife and I stayed here for two nights thinking it would be easier to set up a San Blas tour than somewhere else. We ended up booking with San Blas dreams (based in el machico hostel) so it didn’t make a difference where we stayed. For $30 plus tax a night, you get a tiny, hot room with a lumpy bed and shared bathrooms. The room and bathrooms were clean. The hostel is located in an awful location for tourists. You have to take an Uber to go anywhere at any time of day. It wasn’t a neighborhood to stroll around. The hotels in Panama City are relatively cheap. For $60-70, there are plenty of 4 star hotels in much better locations. If you want a hostel, there are a few around the neighborhood…
