Detailed Reviews
My husband and I run a small non-profit organization, and we so appreciate the treatment that our groups that stay there receive, and the willingness of the owners to go above and beyond for their guests. If you are looking for a nice quality, a/c, hot shower, small pool, and locally run hotel with great customer service, this is it.

THE HOTEL - Los Pinos is a ~15 room bed & breakfast located in the middle of Managua. It is a short walk from the main thoroughfare (Carretera Masaya) but located in a residential section so it is fairly quiet most of the time. The owners were very friendly. Reservations are made through email and a credit card was not required to hold the room. The owner responded quickly to each email I sent and was very polite. The rooms were clean and comfortable with a TV, a good air conditioner and nice bed. We were given a family room instead of a two-person room since they had availability. The breakfasts consisted of made-to-order eggs, toast, juice, and coffee. All of the staff were friendly. This hotel is a very good choice if you don't want to do the "Americanized" CrownePlazaHolidayInnIntercontinentals of the city. I would go back, especially considering the cost compared to the chain hotels.
THINGS TO DO NEARBY - We walked from the hotel to restaurants, the main avenue, and a casino. There are restaurants within 5-10 minutes' walking distance of the hotel spanning the range from expensive (for Managua) steak/chicken places to TGI Fridays to cantinas to sports bars to Irish pubs with weekend bands. There is a pulperia (Nicaraguan "mom and pop" store) around the corner from the hotel that has many basic grocery items. While prudent to take regular traveler precautions (pick pocketing, cars have the right-of-way) we never felt ill-at-ease while going around the neighborhood or city itself.
THINGS TO DO IN MANAGUA - Highlights were the city plaza, lake front park on the weekend, and going to the nearby national park at the volcano in Masaya (25 minute drive). There is also a new mall with all of the usual US-influenced stores and a movies theater (1 1/2 miles from the hotel). The city has a park at Tiscapa Lagoon where you can go zip lining for $15. There is also a large market called Huembes (mercado Roberto Huembes, a 10-minute taxi ride away) where hundreds of vendors sell everything from shoes to toys to crafts to meat to coffee to souvenirs, etc. We were the only tourists there the day we went. Getting around is easy as taxis will practically stalk you as you walk around. The honks mean they are available and all fares are pre-negotiable. Hotel to the mall was $4, Huembes $5, and the airport $17. All in all an interesting place to visit. 2 days was sufficient to see all of the sites.

Thank so much for your review. It always a pleasure to know that one of our guest feel good staying with us. There are so many nice things to do in managua, now there is place downtown where you can see the old Managua (a miniature replica of managua before the earthquake) and its really cool and its close to old cathedra, its situated in Salvador Allende. We are sure you will enjoy it.

This is a perfect place to stay for an overnight or more in Managua. We stayed here for one night before catching a flight out the following afternoon. Rooms are clean and spacious, pool is very nice, and the owner if extremely helpful (and speaks perfect English, having grown up in New Jersey). Location is good for nearby restaurant area. Breakfast, which is included in room rate, was excellent.

We stayed at this hotel for a few days in April and it was comfortable and clean. The pool was a bit murky but the grounds of the hotel were beautiful and lush. The hotel is a small family run affair and the employees were either really friendly or not friendly at all depending on who you interacted with. The room we had did not have working hot water and there were ants and a cochroach in the room. There is a pleasant sitting area with rocking chairs and couches to lounge in. The breakfast served was very filling and well prepared. Overall a fairly good hotel, especially for being in a big city, it was in a quiet neighborhood

I stayed here as part of a group before and after a volunteer trip in Nicaragua. The hotel is very clean and welcoming. We had breakfast there each day and there was always a lot of food. As it was part of an organized group, we didn't get to order off a menu, but the rest of the menu did look great.
The beds were comfortable, and the AC and amenities were all functioning as to be expected. The pool is great and a nice spot to cool off after a hot day exploring.

I came to this place in business. Stayed at Los Pinos for 5 weeks. After a week I felt so comfortable in here, that I met all the staff already. After really busy days, this is the place to relax. Its a family owned business, and this gives the hotel a special touch. By the end of the day, they will always ask how was your day. This is a nice touch...even if you don't feel that talking about it. Do visit.

+1
This hotel is family owned and operated. The staff were a pleasure to deal with! Very homey place to stay. The rooms are very spacious and clean. There is free wifi, TV, breakfast and use of a computer in the lobby. The owner was very helpful in recommending local sites to visit and assisting in my travels to the different destinations in Nicaragua. It was a great place to stay in between my travels to different places in Nicaragua. I used it as my home base while in the country. It was close to a lot of amenities; restaurants, malls and bars. The pool was a bonus to cool off during the day. I would stay at this place in the future.

When traveling to Nicaragua, we used to stay at a now closed hotel. We were searching for an alternative when we found Los Pinos, much to our delight. This is a fantastic, beautiful, family owned hotel with an amazing owner. The rooms are super clean and comfortable, and the property is stunning. We can't wait to visit again!

This is a great individually owned hotel with wonderful staff! We went with a delegation and they were amazingly kind and helpful. We also met various Peace Corps passing though too! If you go to Nica, why stay at a chain? Check out a great Nica hotel with AC, warm showers, and WiFi!
