We booked the junior family suite as we were a family of 4. The suite was really nice and spacious and well laid out with lots of pieces of what looked like vintage furniture. Breakfast was nice but a little repetitive. Beware, pancakes in Serbia are served cold and soggy as is most of the food as we later found out, so this is not a problem that the hotel has. The location is great for exploring the city on foot and the live piano in the breakfast hall and all day makes it so lovely to hear. Now onto the not so good part. Staff are not as warm and welcoming as they are in other international hotel chains of the world. We had mixed experience with reception staff- some were really nice and a lot of them were cold and stand offish. Hotel room service is woefully short staffed - they have only 1 person doing night shifts even in peak season, so don't expect any service at all after 5 pm in your room. Also, they give like 2 tiny water bottles free for the room once (we stayed for multiple days) and don't replenish tea/coffee sachets or wash the glasses (terrible housekeeping). The free "spa" that they advertise is basically just a steam and sauna. Even though I had written to the hotel in advance asking about the facility, and again, telephoned the spa from my room before going to the spa, nobody thought it important to mention the dress code (single piece swim suit). I hadn't packed one and of course they conveniently sell some cheap quality nut high priced stuff which I didn't feel like buying for using just once, so I let it go feeling quite disappointed with the hotel attitude. The heater in our room stopped working at one point (it was 7 degrees outside and housekeeping left the windows open) so we had to really complain like 5 or 6 times and finally they gave us one of those cheap Chinese fan heaters which actually did a really good job of keeping the kids warm below, but I was worried about a fire risk from the thing. LOL. Overall, if we went back to Belgrade, we might or might not go back to Moskva. The staff were sorta nice, the breakfast was decent, location was great and it felt nice to be a part of something that had seen a lot of history.

A landmark with history and charm that lived up to expectations. Impeccably clean and looked after, rooms are lovely and comfortable. Breakfast was very good in an elegant setting of the famous coffeeshop that will be filled throughout the day by both guests and people seeking the destination. The location is perfect for walking to all the sites, and is almost at the start of the pedestrian walkway that leads up to the fortress. We targeted this hotel for our stay to experience this lovely city. So why the four starts? It is a five story property and we were put on the fifth floor. On check in we saw the room was initially meant to be on the fourth floor, but it was struck out and we were placed on the fifth (not that we ever made any request or knew the difference). Whilst the room itself was very good, our view was towards the inside roof of the building, with no view of the city whatsoever. We were only there for two days and out most of the time, so did not feel it was an issue. We would however have appreciated being informed of this at check in, or have that pointed out on the website where we reserved. Would gladly return to and recommend this wonderful place, but specifically request a room with a view (other than the roof) at the very least.

Great location, old world charm and elegance and lovely, very helpful staff who seem to enjoy their jobs and are proud to work in this well established Belgrade institution. Great people watching on the terrace and a marvellous selection for breakfast. Highly recommended for a memorable experience.

I recently had the displeasure of staying at what can only be described as the worst hotel I have ever encountered. From the moment I checked in, it was clear that the customer service was abysmal. The receptionist was rude and unhelpful, barely acknowledging my presence and showing no interest in providing me with any information about the hotel or the surrounding area. The concierge too was very rude unwilling to help with bags. On checking in I was first given given a wrong room and after about one hour later given the right room which I found the room was dirty and in the three nights that we stayed I think the house keeping would have cleaned it only once. The worst part of my stay was undoubtedly the staff at the reception and the restaurant. When I asked for assistance with a very simple request, they outright refused and acted with hostility towards me. I felt they were cold and gave me a feeling that i was being treated this way due to my skin colour. The breakfast was horrible. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The service was terrible, the rooms disgusting, and the staff were unhelpful and racists. Save yourself the headache and stay elsewhere.

We had the most disappointing experience during our stay at Hotel Moskva in Belgrade. Where we were treated with total disrespect and arrogance by the reception when I politely asked them to help me at check in with my luggage. I am travelling with my children and grandchildren having a booking of four rooms. Had driven for five hours from Sarajevo to Belgrade and was met with this rude and utterly inhuman attitude of the front desk asking me to carry my own luggage to my room and my children’s room which were booked 13 May thru 17 th May. We felt racially profiled and I’ll treated by the discourteous and hostile staff . I would strongly urge people going for holiday to Belgrade to avoid staying at this terrible hotel.

This hotel is an architectural gem and has some lovely aspects but also some not good aspects. On the plus side, the cakes are out of this world good and the waiter service polite and helpful; the reception staff are also great. Rooms are clean and are quiet as long as your air conditioning is working and you can shut the windows (a/c wasn't working in my assigned room so they moved me to another where it was working). Very small rooms, bathroom and shower but that didn't worry me at all. On the minus side, the whole place stinks of cigarette smoke, even inside the rooms--it seems to come from the upper story of the restaurant where people are allowed to smoke and then it just goes all over the building. Also I found the beds impossibly hard and uncomfortable even though the matttresses are new. These two elements mean that next time I visit Belgrade I will probably stay elsewhere, regretfully.

TLDR: Unwelcoming and spectacularly hostile, racist and rude staff, breakfast featuring rotten eggs, detached management, room service left the room dirtier than it previously was. I do not write negative reviews lightly. However, our family of 11 family members, individually and collectively, had such a terrible experience at hotel Moskva that I feel compelled to share the details of our stay so other travelers can make a well informed and considered decision on whether to book a stay at hotel Moskva. Our parents booked hotel Moskva as part of a family trip to Europe involving stays at multiple hotels in 6 countries. We were a group of 11 and had the pleasure of wonderful and considerate hotel staff (we have a baby and toddler in our group) prior to our stay at hotel Moskva. When my parents checked in, after a 6 hour drive from Sarajevo, and asked for help to carry their bags to their rooms, the folks at the reception rudely told them “carry it yourself.” They were shocked and asked again, only to be rudely informed of the same thing. Please visualize this scenario: aged parents, two young children including one baby, tired adults and we had booked multiple rooms. Not one member of the reception or bell desk offered to help us. Meanwhile, we watched as other guests of the hotel were offered help with their luggage. The tone in which they were spoken to seemed more welcoming than how we were addressed and it became very clear to us that the tone of our skin (brown btw) created this sense of difference in treatment and assistance. I’m the oldest child in the family and unfortunately, I was not present when the above situation transpired. I was in another car on my way to the hotel and was informed of the above account when I arrived. When I arrived with two other family members and checked in at the front desk, the lady was incredibly rude in her tone, unhelpful with questions and just unwilling to help. I’ve stayed in world class hotels and have never felt so spoken down to, it was incredibly condescending and insulting. I escalated and asked to speak to the manager on duty. I explained to the manager, very politely and firmly, that the unwelcoming and unfriendly reception we had was simply unacceptable. I asked her how hotel staff could just stand by while my aged parents struggled with bags and family members struggled with kids and bags. The staggering lack of empathy, humanity, consideration and hospitality left me shocked. To her credit, the manager apologized and told me that they were fully booked and the front desk was usually friendly. To this, I responded, if you’re a 150 yr old hotel and this is peak season, do you not have systems in place to balance guest operations? How is basic hospitality compromised as a result of booking volume? It didn’t make sense to me and she had no real response to it because let’s call this spade for what it is, an excuse. Also, I informed the manager that for one or two members of a group to feel mistreated and racially profiled is one thing, to have every single member feel that way is another matter entirely and is a red flag. She agreed, apologized and asked if she could get me a coffee which I politely turned down. I requested her to consider the details of our experience and do something to ensure that the rest of our stay was pleasant and also ensure that in the future, no other guests of color would be made to feel the way we felt. The next morning, as my adult sister approached the breakfast buffet at the hotel, the lady at the breakfast checkin told her “go back to your room and change your shoes. You can’t come in like this.” Verbatim. My sister was dressed appropriately and was wearing Birkenstocks. My sister asked for the reason and was told “I don’t make the rules, it’s not up to me.” My sister asked to see the hotel policies and upon getting a copy noted that flip flops weren’t allowed and she was wearing Birkenstocks for orthopedic reasons. Again, the staff at the breakfast buffet condescendingly told my sister that the reception staff had conveyed this information on the dress code during checkin. They had not. In fact, I later verified with every single family member, that they were not informed of the dress code by the reception. It created such an embarrassing and unwelcome situation for us at breakfast. All the other guests were looking at us, wondering what was happening and it was beyond cringeworthy. My sister gave up trying to rationalize with the staff and went upstairs and wore close toed shoes. Then my brother arrived, in close toed shoes and shorts and was told to go and change. I actually caught a member of the staff sneering at my brother when his back was turned. My brother again explained that this was not communicated at check in, we were at breakfast and again, the hotel staffs response was “we don’t make the rules.” My brother went and changed and came back to breakfast. As we were having breakfast, a Caucasian guest walked in wearing shorts and none of the hotel staff said a thing to him about his attire. My brother went up and enquired as to why the treatment was different at which point, a member of the staff very grudgingly went to the Caucasian guest and asked him to change. Let’s pause for a second here and consider a few questions. Why was the dress code information not conveyed to any of the 11 members of our group? We didn’t check in all at once, there were multiple checkins and plenty of opportunities to convey this information to us to avoid this embarrassment and consternation. Secondly, and more troublingly, why was the Caucasian guest allowed to walk in with shorts while my brown skinned brother stopped and shamed? Are there different policies and standards for guests of color? But wait, there’s more. I had housekeeping clean my room while I was out and they actually left it dirtier than it had been. My guess is that they cleared lint from one of the bathroom vents and got it everywhere- I mean, on the towels, counter, floor and most appallingly, inside my contact lens case. I was so defeated at this point, I just decided not to get my room cleaned again. We steadfastly avoided eating or drinking or spending any time at the hotel apart from breakfast and chilling in our rooms because of how overwhelmingly bad our experience was. During our stay (4 nights), the manager did not bother to check in and see how our stay was progressing. At breakfast, my sister was served rotten eggs and other guests complained loudly about the quality of the food. It was just a seemingly endless stream of disappointments. I’d hoped that when we checked out, especially because I’d had a conversation with the hotel manager about the lack of assistance with our bags, that the front desk and bellhops would help us. Nobody stepped forward or lifted a finger. Again, we left with heavy hearts and sadness. If the senior management of this hotel are reading, here are a few things to consider: 1) train your front desk on basic hospitality and etiquette 2) train your staff on how to be mindful of racial profiling 3) close the very real gaps in communication beteeen reception and breakfast staff. Your guests shouldn’t be shamed because your reception is failing at basic communication 4) have standards without being exclusionary: consider context and exercise compassion. 5) Revisit or create food quality control processes, and also, please fire your chef, the food is appalling, in freshness, quality and flavor. I’m never going back to hotel Moskva and to be honest, I’m surprised it’s survived for 150 years. It really shouldn’t have.

Definitely for a higher budget, the hotel provided many positive aspects. Lovely piano music could be heard in the reception area. We made great use of the gym each day, with enough equipment to cover most exercises. The bedrooms were spacious with well-equipped bathrooms and wardrobes. The reception staff were nice and helpful. Would definitely recommend.
