We booked this for just the weekend and it was worth every penny! The one we stayed in was very clean. And neatly set up. Like a mini cabin. Everyone was super sweet and courteous! They made sure we had all that we needed!
Owners were super nice and helpful and worked to get us checked in for an early arrival. Everything was very clean and had all the necessary amenities. Nice fire pit with chairs, picnic table on the porch, and BBQ grill. There was plenty of room to park our Trucks, Trailers, & UTV's. The beds were exceptionally comfortable as well as nice couch and recliner. Would've given a 5 star review but the place is aging and could use a little work, but overall I would definitely recommend staying here!
Staff are the friendliest around. Very helpful. Cottages are comfortable. Cool air. Everything you need. Like home away from home. Close to Kenlake. We stayed for Hot August Blues. We had awesome stay. Close to several great restaurants. I'll always come back
It was great had a awesome time cant wait to come back owners were very friendly felt like family treated us great. Awesome place to visit fun for all the family good to just relax and enjoy nature and be very relaxed
This is a nice place to stay for the value, we had a duplex for the size of our family, the bathrooms are small and shower very small, the grandson's had a great time in swimming pool and playing air hockey, pool and playgound area, not a fancy place, but the staff and owners are the best and friendly, not a lot of choices for eating out, serveral closed, very close to Kenlake Marina, all in all, if you are looking for a simple cottage to stay at, this is the one for you.
First off - quick summary on the GOOD: Very comfortable beds! Good value for the space. Cold A/C. Pool. Nice outdoor recreation area. Close to Kenlake. Super-nice owners. Now for the "Things You Might Want to Know": We chose Aurora's KY Lake Cottages because all of the other places we have stayed were booked for our dates. We travel with a dog, so we always look for stand alone units to ensure that he doesn't disturb others on the odd chance that we need to leave him crated in the room for a short period of time. I incorrectly assumed that "Cottages" were stand-alone units - the one that we had was not. (In fairness, the website does have their floorplans on their site. However, I missed the part that showed a "connecting door" to the next unit.) Most of the 2-bedroom units are a duplex, so it is likely you will have neighbors next door at some point. While I do not think the folks next to us were overly loud, we could hear them in our unit. We could also smell anything they cooked. The biggest downfall to a duplex with a pup is that he could hear everything, which made him bark frequently. He just didn't understand. We did our best to keep him quiet, but I knew there was no way we could leave him crated in the cottage without him disturbing the neighbors...which meant we were incredibly limited on where we could get meals. We were only there for a few days and didn't intend to cook. This mistake was on me - I completely overlooked it. That's why I want to point it out in case others do, as well. The 2 Bedroom Cottage really isn't 2 bedrooms. It's a 1 bedroom cottage with a living room that has 2 full size beds in it. For our party of 3, this wasn't a big deal. We just like to have at least 1 bedroom door to close so we don't have to go to bed or turn out all the lights when our daughter goes to bed. This might be a big deal for someone traveling with a larger group, as this particular cottage claimed to hold up to 10 people. The beds are all full-size, which means my tall husband and I sleep apart on the trip since we are used to a king, but we knew that ahead of time. The beds were very comfortable...one of the best I've ever slept on during travel. This was a pleasant surprise, because the bedspreads looked to be at least 30 years old - they were threadbare. Pillows - eh, I bring my own always. These were very firm. Air-Conditioning - The temperatures and heat index hovered at or above 100 for our trip, so the COLD A/C was very welcome. Just note that it is a window unit in the living room (Front "bedroom"), and it is very noisy. It was hard to watch TV without blaring the volume...but I think our neighbors ha to do the same, so at least we didn't disturb them. And it muffled my husband's snoring, so that was a plus ;) The downside to one window unit is that the actual bedroom got warm. Our kiddo didn't mind, but there was no way I could have slept back there with the door closed (which sort of defeats the purpose of having a door to close). There is a pool, open 9-9. It is a bit small, but it was clean. Kids like it to splash and cool off, but no one would be swimming laps. There is a recreation area in the middle of the resort. A small covered pavilion offers table tennis, pool, and air hockey. The pool table and air hockey table are older and could use some maintenance, but they are free and fun for kids. There is also a nice playground for younger kids. Beware that this is RIGHT OUTSIDE of units 5/6, so if you don't like kid noise...pick a different location. Quiet hours are after 10, and the guests respected that timing. The bathroom is serviceable, but there is no bathtub. That might be important for families with smaller children. The shower is miniscule....I've been in larger showers in value cabins on a cruise ship. Water was hot, decent water pressure, I got clean....just tiny shower. There is a kitchen with stove and full-size refrigerator. It appeared to be well outfitted with dishes, pots and pans, etc. We didn't really make use of it, but we love having a fridge. There is no ice maker in the fridge and only 1 ice tray, but they sell bags of ice at the office. The location is great if you want to be near Kenlake. We typically stay at the north end of the lake, near Ky Dam, so we are much more familiar with that area. This location was great for Kenlake and entering the middle of Land Between the Lakes. There is a nice restaurant next door, The Pond. Great catfish. There are several other restaurants along the road...but whether they are open is hit or miss. We intended to order take-out pizza from one spot on Saturday night, only to call them 90 minutes before the stated closing time and find that they were "closed until Tuesday". It was a little frustrating, since we couldn't go off and leave the pup and were relying on take-out or outdoor dining. The resort does have WIFI, but it was not reliable. We also had little cell service in the area at times. That was nice to make you unplug, but it was aggravating when you needed to look up area restaurants or try to make a call. It isn't a huge deal, but if being connected is important to you, don't count on the WIFI. There is no housekeeping service during your stay, but they will exchange towels daily. This is typical in cottages. To sum it all up - this was a nice visit to the lakes to spend time with family and celebrate an old friend's birthday in a nearby town. The resort is older, but it offers a great value for the space. The owners know they aren't a fancy resort and they don't try to be. If you are a family looking for space to spread out but don't want to spend a fortune, this is definitely the place for you. If you're a hunter or fisherman that just wants a place to sleep, make a reservation! If you're a little more particular, this may not be the place for you.…
What a treat to find this place! Dave & Jaymi were gracious, kind, warm and inviting. The room was clean and well furnished and there was a ton of activities right on site. A wonderful family restaurant within a short walking distance with a great menu.
This is a perfect location for visiting the Land Between the Lakes area. There are many activities very near the cottages. It is also easy to drive "The Trace" north bound one day and south bound another with many hiking options. The owners, Dave and Jayme, are very friendly and quite helpful with offering local restaurants and "must do" activities. The Kenlake Marina fireworks display was one of the best we have ever seen. We are from Cincinnati and have a nationally renowned display in town every Labor Day weekend so we had low expectations for this small town display. It FAR exceeded our expectations. As advertised, this is not a high end resort but it met our needs and has lots of activities for families on site.
Very friendly and awesome staff. Exceeded my expectations. Very reasonable rates. Clean and relaxing place to stay. Everything from check in to check out was excellent. Made my fishing trip very enjoyable and convenient just to be able to park and charge my boat right next to my unit.
The cottage was lovely and enjoyable. We had a great time and will come back. The pool was nice, the activities were wonderful and the playground was enjoyable for the children. I will give word of mouth and share website information on Aurora Cottages.
