+ Central location
+ Tiny but nice pool area (it was too cold to swim but it was nice chilling there)
+ Nice bar with good drinks (some of them seemed a bit watery but it was still fine)
- Breakfast was not good. No selection at all. Same food for two days.
- It’s quite noisy. Especially when your windows are close to the bar
- Rooms can be cleaned better
Overall for the price of private room with bathroom and breakfast it was fine.

In a very convenient location along the main street in Zagreb with easy access to tourists spots in the Upper Town and restaurants and drinking holes along Tkalčićeva Street. Two-person room was tight, but with good air conditioning, wifi access, and a relatively spacious and modern shower. Surprisingly great Asian fusion restaurant downstairs with a really nice outdoor bar patio upstairs. I didn't go in but the swimming pool looked great. Would come again!

I travelled to Zagreb with my girlfriend in July 2020. Swanky has a deservedly good reputation, it is clean, has an awesome bar and is located ideally to explore Zagreb.
The best thing about this hostel is definitely the food/drink they offer. It is obvious a lot of locals also visit the bar. It is an amazing space and the staff are all friendly.
However, what this means is there is not a lot of hostel space. So, as a lone traveller, I would imagine it would be quite hard to find people as the bar is so busy and so full of locals with slightly different attitudes (entirely fair).
The kitchen was also well set up and it is easy to make your own food.
They also have a swimming pool, which would be super cool when the weather allows.
Overall good experience, clean rooms with great lockers, but definitely a party vibe.

Hey Thomas! Thank you for taking the time to write us such a nice and objective review! We are aware that we have a very popular bar beloved by locals and that this vibe isn't everyone's taste, but we are still happy you enjoyed our facilities and our beautiful city. We are looking forward to the next time! Cheers from the whole Swanky team!

Stayed in "Brijačnica" for two nights. The first night TV had only few channels in function, the second night most of them "activated". I was asked to show my wristband during the breakfast by three or four different people which was really annoying. The second night hot water went off around 8:30 pm and came back probably around 2 am (didn't check, went to sleep). The reception clerk (female, Croatian, don't remember her name) explanation for the hot water problem was "that's not a big deal and you should have more understanding as that's how hostel guests should behave". Well, clients that pay for the service expect it to be fully available, it doesn't matter if it's a hostel, a hotel or a B&B. This is a good hostel, but definitely not the best in Croatia as they claim to be. There are better ones at the coast.

Me and my four friends stayed at this hostel on our backpacking trip. The staff was super friendly and young. We a got a free room upgrade that allowed me and my four friends to have our own room. This hostel has great food choices. There are multiple places to get food at the hostel. The Asian fusion restaurant they have was really refreshing as I could not find many good Asian food places in Europe. The best part of this hostel is your ability to connect with others. I met a couple friends that stayed at the hostel and we were able to hangout and grab drinks at the bars on site. On my last night there I was even provided a free meal from one of the guests that decided to cook for the staff and other guests at the hostel. If you are traveling through Zagreb and you are under the age of 30 this is a must go!

The Hostel look really fresh, clean bathrooms and comfy beds. Location is superb.
When we arrived the girl working there did not even looked at us when we came in and said hello. She just kept staring at the computer screen obviously ignoring us for 1-2 minutes. She had heard the "Hello" and we were standing less than 1m away, so that was super awkward.
The staff did not show us around the common area, only the bedroom. I think they could have made the effort of showing us at least where the washrooms were. 🤷♀️
We chose the hostel because of the good rated social atmosphere. When we asked later if it was any activity they arranged she answered that they only do things with the guests in the high season, If I knew that I wouldn’t have chosen this hostel.

Dear Sunniva, thank you for taking the time to write us a review! We are so happy that you enjoyed a lot of aspects of our hostel, but sorry to hear that our staff didn't have a very positive impact on you. Sometimes, dealing with certain jobs on reception requires a lot of concentration and focus so it can seem like the person working is ignoring everyone and everything else, but this is not an excuse at all for the way you've been greeted. We apologize for this bad first impression and we hope that you will give us another chance to provide you with the best experience possible! :))

This is a hostel with private rooms that give almost a hotel feel. The place is definitely funky and has a great vibe. I loved the atmosphere and the pool. The dining and bar area was split over 5 levels and was always pretty active. The atmosphere reminded me a lot of the hostels and bars in Central America, particularly Costa Rica and Belize. Breakfast was good although not buffet style and limited in offerings. You ordered dishes as you go. The common area room was in the basement (dark and very dorm-like) and had a fridge, kitchenware, and a coffee machine. We had a private room. It was in the front building but faced the interior driveway/courtyard. The rooms are a decent size with private baths. The bed was so hard that it literally hurt my hips to sleep (I have some joint issues). The in-room fridge was laughably small and barely fit a couple of cans of soda. Similarly the in-room safe was big enough for passports and my tablet - at an angle - but would not fit a laptop computer or SLR camera. It was very quiet after the bar closed at midnight. Because it is a hostel, it has more rules than I am used to, compared to a hotel, and I didn't like that so much. We took a peek into some of the dorm rooms that faced the inner driveway (they have glass doors). They looked decent and more camp-like than some of the metal bunkbeds that I have experienced in hostels. They had a bike area out front. Parking is available in the public lot across the street (hourly rates). Note - there are stairs everywhere here. Even to get to the front desk was a few steps. Staff were nice although some were way more rule-bound than others who were much more relaxed and chill about things. Easy walk to most of the things you want to see in Zagreb. Also public transit is right out front.

First of all, I normally never book hostels.Since it appeared on booking site as Swanky bed and breakfast I booked it and was a bit hesitant if I made the right choice.
Boy oh boy was I right !!! When we arrived there we were greeted by this friendly young girl who was so accomodating and helpful we felt right at home and we knew right away that we would have a nice stay here.
Lot's of complaints that I've read are about the breakfast that it 's not very grand or that there aren't a lot of choices. Well, for us,it was more than enough. For those of you who have doubts ,here's the list of what was available. Salami,Ham, 3 types of cheese, jam (3 different ones),choco, cereals (2 types),eggs, bread, orange juice, water and any type of coffee you like.
The room was nice and clean and we had everything we needed. There's a TV with even a netflix account available, but it's in the croatian language.....oops.
Mattress was a bit hard, but fine by me, I like a hard mattress.
Don't hesitate if you want to book here, you're also smack in the middle of shopping and very close to everything !

We booked a private room in June 2022 and stayed for one night before travelling to Split. We were just having a stop over I’m Zagreb but what a hostel to stop over in. The bar was a great vibe, the pool was really nice and the rooms and shared bathrooms were well looked after

Ive ended a biketrip in zagreb and even when the hostel was full and crowded full of people from everywhere the staff always stayed cool and were helpful, always in a lovely good mood. The day before i left i could use the pool even ive checked out and they even gave me the opportunity to have a shower before my bus brings me back home, even towels were ready for me. I was so glad about this because it was a really hot journey and i sweated a lot and before a 24h bus drive back home a shower would be needed for me. Thankyou so much for this service, you are the best!

Hi and sorry for late reply! And thank you Karan for writing an answer!
So, we don't have a parking space but the there are two parking garages near us. :)
Dear Jammelia,
Airport shuttle buses run regularly to the main bus station (30 min journey costing roughly 5 euro).
When you arrive to the main bus station take tram number 6 from outside the station towards Crnomerec. Our tram stop is Frankopanska and it is one stop after the main square. The tram stops right outside our courtyard door at number 50 Ilica (6th stop from the bus station - it is a 15 minute journey). Tram tickets can be purchased at the little kiosks at each stop, or from the driver. Price of the ticket is 10 Kuna (1.3 euro) and it's valid for 90 minutes.
Let us know if you have any more questions ;)
Kind regards

An alternative option is always the taxi. We advise negotiating a price beforehand, or better still let us do that part by giving us your arrival time and then we can arrange the cheaper taxi firms waiting for you for roughly 15-20 euro.
Kind regards,
The Swanky team :)
